martinb Posted February 1, 2006 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Nemesis at Alton Towers in england opened over 10 years ago and is still being given the name of one of the most intense rollercoasters ever made! Many people say its the best rollercoaster creation on the planet! But what do you think? I personally think its great, at the front its 'weeeeeeeeeeee' all the way with the wind in your face but if you sit at the back the ride changes completely, for me sitting at the back was the most terrifying experience ive ever had on a rollercoaster, you get whipped through every inversion at an imense speed! Going by the videos that I have seen of Nemesis I think its a awesome coaster! I also think it has a good layout and it has great themeing! But I rode it almost every year it was open from 1994 to 2002 and I can tell you that very few rides beat it out. That's just my opinion. Ed Posted February 1, 2006 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Nemesis was my first major rollercoaster and it really is a world class ride. It isn't the best, but it certainly ranks highly among many people. It has one of the strangest layouts as it continues to gain speed throughout the ride until it hits the loop The setting is amazing. In the tea-drinking english countryside they dug a huge hole and carved in Nemesis. With waterfalls of blood and supports buried into cliff faces. The helix of doom with a wire fence a matter of inches away from your feet and the jagged rocks as you pull down into the On-Ride photo section. (ORP got moved from before the corkscrew down there, it might be half and half) The last "wingover" is the most shocking part of the ride. Completely hidden from the queueline you only see what you went through as you walk over the exit ramp. It really gives a huge pull sat in the back right hand seat! The themeing was given the once over for the 2005 season with the rivers working again! (They stopped because of a burst water pipe for a season or two) No gum on the station wall and they added a single rider entrance. I'd say for me it was the 2nd best ride in the Uk. Though rough isn't maybe the right word. But B&M's not properly maintained will start to vibrate quite a bit. Bit of square wheel syndrome. I think this might me my most anticipated coaster ever. i mean, I've known about it ever since I saw it on one of those coaster shows right when it was built or a year after or whatever... I have been dying to ride it ever since. Even though I have only been on Raptor and two SLCs, I think the inverted coaster is my favorite type. It has the coolest feeling, in my opinion. But sticking an inverted coaster in a hole with a unique layout, theme, and intensity, and you've got one of the main reasons I'm returning to England this summer. I love the feeling when you so close to the ground during teh first drop then whoosh, you fly upwards and the ground turns into a cliff and your suddenly really high up, upside down where you see the whole ride for a split second before slamming into the most intense helix I've ever ridden. *ahem* But you cannot call Batman:The Ride bog standard. Yes, there are 12 Batman the ride clones including the mirror image ones. You do have to remember that TEN of these were sold to 6FI. That's not B&M's problem or fault. The other two are at independent parks outside the US. There are THIRTY SEVEN SLC's in the 5 flavors they come in. (Pretty much is there a helix or not.) Vekoma SLC's are pretty much all rough pieces of crap that simply get horrid with age. B&M BTR's are intense machines that even the oldest of which are just starting to get vibrations thirteen years later. Vekoma designed the SLC as a cheaper alternative to the B&M inverted model at a time when B&M simply couldn't keep up with demand. If you can, really compare BTR at 6FGA with an older SLC (6FKK or my personal least favorite SLC Blackout at Suzuka Circuit). You'd know the difference immediately after you got off. The oldest SLC is a year younger than the oldest BTR, but even the newest SLC's are still rougher than the eldest BTR. I may be a (33 year old) B&M fanboy, but Vekoma SLC's are still crap. I always think that there are way more clones out there than there really are, but even the much copied boomerang design has 'only' 45 copies out there not counting 4 each of the giant models and the inverted version. paulosthejackal Posted February 2, 2006 Share Posted February 2, 2006 I have only been on a few coasters in America (well Florida) but I can honestly say that nemesis is far more intense than Montu and Duelling Dragons... This is not to say that these are bad rides, they were awsome and massive feet tingling fun factorys. But because of your proimity to the ground 50mph feels more like 500mph!!!! The previous comment about the rear right seat is totally correct, the back is just so much faster than the front with more intensity and G's. So to sound overexcited but I love this ride and its cool that people who might have SFMM at thier disposal are interested in this ride in a little park in England!!! Guest Posted February 2, 2006 Share Posted February 2, 2006 What sets nemesis apart from the others is the lack of a big first drop, although the overall drop from the lift to the bottom of the loop is about a hundred foot, I would say the maximum you drop in one go is 40-50 feet. The ride just keep getting faster. Some would say it's a little short but I feel that makes it even better as it just leaves you wanting more. I personally didn't think it was worth the extra wait. It's nice being able to see infront of you but after riding so many times in the back it seems such a let down. The turn before the loop was really crazy. You could feel the rest of the train still coming up behind you as the front lost all momentum. Was weird. Anyway, I havent been on Nemesis but Ive ridden Batman la Fuga (which many people says its faster than your average B:TR) and I cant image how great a ride more intense than that one would be, with trenches, tunnels and hidden inversions. Nemesis is definately one of the coasters I want to ride most. And for those who thinks there are too many Batman-clones: All over the world there are 12 clones (+ the original). In my opinion there arent too many. 8 in the USA, 1 in Canada, 1 in Europe and 3 in Asia. If you havent noticed, the world is HUGE and I wouldnt consider 13 identical rides spread out all over the world to be too many. Not when were talking about such great rides.
