Joe21498 Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 This topic is mainly focused for people who have had a Disneyworld Wedding. A few weeks back I sent a personal message to Robb asking him about his Disneyworld Wedding experience. Robb suggested that I start a topic on the subject. He said that Elissa and maybe other people on the forum may be able to answer my questions. After visiting the Disney Website and going thought the wish book process they provide to plan a wedding I found that it didn't really give me a good idea of what the cost and difficulty of such an event would be. 1.) How many people did you have at your Wedding? Was it the intimate wedding or the custom wedding? 2.) What was the approximate cost of the wedding? Feel free to break down the ceremony and reception into categories if you want to. 3.) How many hotel rooms were you required to book and at what cost? 4.) How long did you stay on Disney properties for the wedding? Did friends and family stay the same amount of time? 5.) Did you have to go to Disneyworld prior to the wedding in order to finalize plans? 6.) What other hidden costs occurred during the experience? Admissions, food, etc... 7.) What photo option did you pick for your wedding? 8.) Did you have a video made of the event? If anyone can answer these questions that would be greatly appreciated. Also feel free to give me any other info that you want to about the experience. 9.) What did you like about the experience and what would you have liked to see changed? I'll probably have more questions if I can get someone to answer some of these.
SharkTums Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Ok here goes... Feel free to IM me at emeridithw2 because sometimes it's easier to talk all of this out. 1.) How many people did you have at your Wedding? Was it the intimate wedding or the custom wedding? 75 People, Custom Wedding 2.) What was the approximate cost of the wedding? Feel free to break down the ceremony and reception into categories if you want to. Email, PM, or IM me this, as I don't want to get to detailed on the site. I still have my disney budget documents for most everything that I'd be happy to share with you (floral, photo, food, etc.) Check to Disney was under 20K, with everything all said and done (dress, tux, airfare, hotel, gift baskets, tips, etc.) right around 20K. 3.) How many hotel rooms were you required to book and at what cost? We were supposed to book something like 150 total room nights. When I explained that it was a mostly Florida people wedding and convincing everyone to stay at Disney would be hard they bumped it down to 75..We still exceeded that as everyone ended up wanting to stay at Disney! 4.) How long did you stay on Disney properties for the wedding? Did friends and family stay the same amount of time? We checked into Boardwalk on a Wednesday for the Saturday Wedding, we checked out the next Wednesday for a cheaper place. We selected 3 hotels; one value, one moderate, one deluxe. Most of our guests stayed at Boardwalk on the Fri and Sat nights of the wedding, Some people stayed at the All-Star Movies, no one chose the Moderate. 5.) Did you have to go to Disneyworld prior to the wedding in order to finalize plans? You do not HAVE to, but if you can I highly recommend it because you get to taste all kinds of food and cakes!!! We did most everything over email, and then met up with our planner on that Thursday before the wedding to finalize stuff. 6.) What other hidden costs occurred during the experience? Admissions, food, etc... I actually was plesantly surprised, it seemed that Disney was really upfront with EVERYTHING, and there were no Disney hidden costs or charges. As for budgeting on your own, just be careful with gifts for your guests, tips, honeymoon spending, etc. 7.) What photo option did you pick for your wedding? We picked the pretty basic package. There were two photographers, they met us at the Wedding Pavilion for pre-ceremony stuff, then they did the ceremony, group and nice shots afterward, then the reception. I believe it was the 6 hour package, as opposed to the longer ones where they shoot you getting ready and stuff like that. We then got the amazing 'scrapbook' style album and it's great!!! We still have not bothered to order any additional pix from them. They were great and had all the photos online a few weeks later for everyone to look at and order if they wanted. We also opted for the 'Magic Kingdom Bridal Session'. The 4am thing where you go to the MK to get AMAZING pix of you all dolled up in front of the castle and other cool places. 8.) Did you have a video made of the event? We did not hire anyone...we did it ourselves with the help of friends and family. Here is the link to where you can see two of the 'wedding' videos we did: http://www.themeparkreview.com/videos/video.htm Just look at the wedding one, and the orlando parks one. 9.) What did you like about the experience and what would you have liked to see changed? Here's the crazy thing, I wouldn't have changed A THING!!! Everything was perfect, and Disney did an amazing job! We seriously looked at 3 other options, and I am so happy everyday that we decided on Disney!! It was perfect! Other random notes: - Characters are a must! We had Chip, Dale, Mickey, and Minnie - Do gifts for guests, table settings, little knickknacks on your own, disney charges too much. - Don't spend too much on flowers - Don't spend too much decorating reception room - Food is amazing! - Don't splurge for the Glass Coach - Don't get dessert, you'll have cake! Let me know how else I can help!
coasters 4 me Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 ^About the wedding video, you did a brilliant job. I think it is really cool!! You look extremely pretty in that dress!! Also, when I get older, I want to get married in Disney if I meet a girl who would like to. I seen the Grand Floridian Hotel on the monorail and it looks absolutely stunning.
SharkTums Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 One thing I forgot to mention... Don't be scared off by price or 'sticker shock'. You can do really beautiful weddings there from 3K - 1Million!
Joe21498 Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 Considering the average wedding costs around 27,000 these days I think that this is a resonable idea. Since your wedding was a few years ago you would have to factor in a bit of inflation but it does seem practical. I'll be in contact with you in the future when more questions arise. Thank You thus far.
Erik Johnson Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Is it possible to have a Disney wedding at an attraction? Or are you very limited on the ceremony location. I am not sure why I asked this question, I guess I am just curious, well in case if Leanne leaves me for Tigger.
SharkTums Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Someone on my Disney Brides board was doing their wedding inside the Great Movie Ride...although they split about 6 weeks before the wedding!!!! People have also gotten married at other attractions: Living Seas, Tower of Terror, etc. As long as you have $$$ you can do whatever you want!
Wes Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Yep. http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/weddings/index?name=HomeWeddingsPage
robbalvey Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 What about DL, do they do these things?? Technically yes, but nowhere NEAR on the level that WDW does. --Robb

I take it that it cost mega bucks to have a wedding at an attraction then?
SharkTums Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Some of the attractions, during off season, aren't too much more than our wedding. I believe that the Great Movie Ride one (where they would move to a different room for each course) was around 25K. You save money in that you need pretty much NO Decorations!
arrowfanman Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Lol...I just had this vision of Mr. Lincoln providing the service. Great Weddings with Mr. Lincoln. Anyway, Im too young to be thinking about this, so I guess my posts are irrelevant, and should be deleted.
USRoadTripper Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 When I worked at Universe of Energy, I decided that my dream wedding was to get married in the dinosaur diorama. The ceremony could be under the fight scene (two dinos attacking each other) with dinner and dancing in the hold area (the area where all the vehicles stop as soon as they enter the dino area). Could you imagine the photos from that wedding?! We could also do rooftop photos. The VIP lounge could be used for preparation for the bride and maintenance bay for the groom (of course I'd get the posher prep spot!) See, can you tell I thought about it a lot while I was there? -Julie
Canadmos Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Do you think this would be something that would be enjoyable and memorable to people who arn't theme park junkies?
ChiDan1972 Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Elissa, I see in your honeymoon pictures, you and Robb have the wedding ears on. What kind of perks do you get for that? Thinking of maybe honeymooning there and was wondering if it was worth wearing them
SharkTums Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 ^^At our wedding we had two tables of "theme park junkies" and five tables of "general public". I think the normal people got an even bigger kick out of it!!! Seriously, since they're not in parks all the time they got kind of the 'A-List' treatment and had a great time. Most of them also commented that the food, atmosphere, decor was much better than you'd find at some normal hall or wedding place. ^Little freebies here and there. An onride photo, glass of wine, pins. Our own car on Test Track, own log on Splash Mountain. People just seem nicer to you!
moinab Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 ^^I think it totally depends on the CMs you happen to encounter. More and more people are wearing the bride and groom ears, like the birthday buttons. We celebrated 3 birthdays at WDW last year, and wore the birthday buttons each time, just for the fun of it. The only time we got anything other than "Happy Birthday" greetings was on my birthday. The CMs in Pizzafari suprised me at our table with a free dessert pizza, and sang to me. It was a very nice surprise, as I really wasn't expecting anything. It was very early for lunch - before 11AM, and there were very few people there. If it is something you want to do because it would be fun for you, I'd say go for it. If you are only doing it to try to get perks, though, it might not be worth it for you.
Teddymonster Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 This is one of the coolest topics, as I have always been curious as to how things work for people's weddings at WDW. Someday, hopefully, we can do something similar...

And they could tell based on our short answers if we were 'faking it' or not. --Robb
