If it's running on steel track, it's a steel coaster. There are no layers of wood anywhere in that track, whereas the Intamin woodies still have stacked wood as their track. This is a steel coaster now. I don't see how there's any ambiguity to it at all.

^ Well it's still running on a flat track though. Then again that would make the S&S launch coasters up for question since they too run on a flat steel track.

At this point I think it's a dumb debate to have, but if anything can we just save everyone the hassle and call this thing an Aquatrax...

Well there hasn't been much to report since they topped the ride off about a week ago so here is a new view for everyone to peek at.

Here is a view from the road behind the park you don't see often. Sorry. Cell pic, low quality.

Here is a good look at the old profile beneath the new.

And a sunset view from Judge's platform foreshadowing the new drop profile to come!

And also this happened...

^I've always wanted to ride in a moving cell phone ad. Way to go Six Flags for making my dream come true.

Everyone, even 6F themselves are putting it into a whole new category. Texas Giant will be a "super-hybrid" coaster, in a category of its own.

Its just a large version of the Ultimate at Lightwater! Wooden Supports with Steel Track (although Ultimate is tubular, whereas this is I Beam construction)

Sod it, I think everyone is right, its an Aquatrax..............

May I ask a dumb question, who is manufacturing the new track?

It's just that when the Steel Phantom got converted to Phantom's Revenge it became known as an Arrow/Morgan coaster and same goes for the Thunderbolt when it got converted from the Pippin, it's known as a Miller/Vettel coaster. Maybe we can just refer to the new Texas Giant as a Dinn/??? coaster.

I believe a company called Rocky Mountain is doing the retracking and the trains will be from Gerstlauer.....should be interesting!

It's going to be interesting to see the first drop because it's supposed to be 85 degrees right? If nothing else, that's the part that interests me the most.

The drop will be 79*

Yes RM is doing the retracking and Gerstlauer is manufacturing a new prototype train for Texas Giant (hopefully with the Texas Flag on them like the old PTC's). I think it'll just stay Dinn though because I'm not really sure who manufactured the track.

^^^ Thanks for the info on the manufacturer. I guess if this really works out well for Six Flags then maybe we can see an improved Mean Streak or dare I say Son of Beast in the future?

Or more likely Colossus, or so I hear. According to Screamscape, it's up for a rehab soon because the Morgan trains are nearing the end of their recommended life, or something like that. But then again, it's just a rumor.

This just made me significantly less excited for this. I hope they are improved Gerstlauer's.

They're going to be completely new train designs, seeing how a wooden coaster train can't ride on this track.

Well, yeah, it wouldn't be quite that simple, but the new track appears to be the exact shape/guage of the old track, so it wouldn't be like trying to put wooden trains on Gemini or anything.

^I would think they'd have to re-gauge the chassis and make adjustments to the undercarriage before running a wooden train on there. A lot more than just swapping wheels would have to happen.

This sounds like the adjustments for the Raven train running on Voyage... It might be easier done than said!
