The Angry Darren Mullins Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2473498367 The link I have submitted shows a photo of a Vekoma Boomerang and mentions the city of Zhaoqing. I know this city used to have a park that closed. I wonder if this particular ride is the one they moved to Kentucky Kingdom and later to Six Flags New England.
gerstlaueringvar Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I've heard about this place before, all I know is that they suffered from low attendance and the park was forced to close.
Henry M Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I hate it when that happens! Even to small parks it is such a shame.
cfc Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Is it the legendary "Boomerang of Power" forged by Sauron?
The Angry Darren Mullins Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 @ cfc: Hahahahahahaha! I think this park was called Xingfu Amusement Park. I was told by the locals that it closed because nobody went there. It is amazing if they actually had a boomerang (real or copy) there.
boldikus Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Not really sure why its considered common knowledge that the boomerang at KK was the first in the U.S. in 1985, when Moreys clearly had theirs up and running a year earlier (I was there). http://rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&mo=8191&page=1&order=8
The Angry Darren Mullins Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 Vampire opened at KK in 1990. It opened in 1985 at Nanhu Park in Guangzhou and may have spent some time in Zhaoqing. I doubt the Chinese were copying boomerangs then.
XII Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Because there weren't enough Boomerangs out in the world, we have been blessed with another one. Though in all seriousness, I am happy when long lost credits get discovered, and this Boomerang has to be better than one of those Jungle Mouse coasters or Chinese Knock-Offs.
The Angry Darren Mullins Posted April 8, 2016 Author Posted April 8, 2016 It seems many of us have probably been on this coaster. It was at Star Lake in Zhaoqing. It is the same boomerang that later opened as Vampire at Kentucky Kingdom and is now at Six Flags New England. RCDB originally had the ride listed for Nanhu in Guangzhou. An ACE publication (maybe Guide To Ride), had it listed as being at Riverside Park. With the true history of this ride being discovered, I can take one away from my total of coasters I discovered before ACE or RCDB. My total drops from 336 to 335.
Nrthwnd Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I rode Vampire after Memorial Day weekend, in 1995. It was alright. As well, T2 had just opened, the first SLC (of this size) in the USA, yes? No?
Gutterflower Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Tthis is indeed the ride that went to KK (Now at SFNE) and was at Star Lake Amusement Park in China first. here's a few more pictures I've dug up over the years.
Jew Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) How is it lost if we found it at SFNE? Edited April 9, 2016 by Jew
The Angry Darren Mullins Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 T2 was the first Vekoma SLC. This boomerang was not lost. The history of it just had a couple pieces of bad information which made this coaster appear from out of left field. Duane at RCDB has since determined that this boomerang is the same one that went to Kentucky and New England.
