Save Santa's Village

Santa's Village is running into some trouble since the land it is on has been sold. They have until 2008 to leave.

 

The park is historic since it was one of the first theme parks, and one of the first in a chain. The other two parks located in California have since closed. The park opened in 1959 at a cost of 1 million dollars. The park went through changes including the Polar Dome, Racing Rapids, Coney Island, and Old McDonalds Farm. A former owner also owned the now defunct Adventure land. When that park closed, several of the rides were moved to SV. In 1998, after a year of delays, the park opened Typhoon. This coaster is fun, but very rough. This is a great park, and I do not want to see it lost. If it is saved, they will move to a town about 30 miles west. I think this park will be saved, since they are drawing some good crowds even this late in the season.

I voted No...but let me explain.

 

This park was so run down, dead, and had several attractions not operating that I just can't see it being pulled together enough to even be worthy of being saved.

 

I understand the history, and it would be sad to lose it, but in its current state, it's just not worth it. I'd rather put my efforts to save parks that have a chance of pulling together and providing a quality experience.

 

If I could see several million $$$ in the plan to relocate (as well as train decent new employees who don't curse in front of guests), open up dilapidated rides, spruce up the place, lower park admission, and appeal more to families then MAYBE I would change my vote.

I'll admit that the park is not in the best shape. It is better now since they put fresh paint on the rides/buildings, and had better staff. This was because it was the parks 45 season. They have been getting larger crowds since, because they had good size crowdes even late in the season on a Sunday night.

Used to be a Santa's Village in the San Bernardino mountains out here, no idea if it's still there, but they always had hokey as all getout commercials. Never had the desire to go there either, looked dumb even on tv.

I voted yes because when they used to have one out here in Socal, I would always go to it. But, one day to our surprise, we went all the way up there and they said the park was being torn down. I was devastated.

I'd almost agree with Elissa, but since I haven't been there yet, I had to vote yes. That being said, I have heard many bad stories about the park, especially related to operations.

 

Fortunately, I will be heading up there next year doing a midwest trip of 10-12 days, hitting pretty much everything I haven't done in IN, IL, MN, MI, IA and maybe KS and back to Branson.

 

I've done most of the parks, now it's time to get ALL of the other credits.

I vote No. Typhoon is horrible, the employees are worse (I've heard less foul language from intoxicated truck drivers), the park looked like it had not been taken care of in about fifteen years, there were many closed rides, and many others that looked like they were about to fall apart. It seems like the people running the place just don't care, and would be better off out of the amusement industry. Then again, so would most of Six Flags management, but that's another topic.

 

The only redeeming quality of the place was hearing Mr. Roboto being played at the bumper cars...

I voted no based on the quality of the current park and the horrible admission price. If they could turn the park around in its new location AND make the admission more reasonable, then maybe, but I'm guessing they won't do that.
