In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Duncan Memorial U.M. Church building fund. No idea tbh.
Intimidator305 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 ^ George Keeney worked at the front gates for years, and for the majority of the time sat at that exact booth. He always had a smile on his face, welcomed everyone kindly, and was known as 'the oldest person to ever work at Kings Dominion'. The park's staff even decorated his booth for his birthday. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks KD's Planet Snoopy is the best in the chain. Everyone kind of overlooks the 8-9 million dollar investment Cedar Fair did in 2013 by turning one of the weaker kiddie areas in the chain into arguably the best one in the chain. But yes, Treasure Cave is missed. The right side of the Action Theatre is used for The Lost World 3D during the regular season and a 3D show during Halloween Haunt. The left side of the Action Theatre is used for No Vacancy, a hotel-themed Haunt maze... one of the most detailed Haunt mazes in the chain that I've seen. However, when Triotech makes its way to KD in a few years - they'll definitely use the Action Theatre for it. As far as Dinosaurs Alive goes - they seem to have dropped in popularity at all the parks I have been to. If I recall, the rumor was that these were 5 year deals with the parks, so 2016 would be the last season of that contract - so if that rumor was true it at least has one more year in the park. Apparently the park is doing Dinos After Dark like KI now to get some people through there. Thanks again for all the photos!
thrillrider Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 ^Thank's for that info. I should have the lakemont park pictures up by this afternoon.
coasterbill Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Great pictures, I'm a huge fan of Kings Dominion. It's a much prettier park than people give it credit for and they have an excellent collection of rides.
thrillrider Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 Great pictures, I'm a huge fan of Kings Dominion. It's a much prettier park than people give it credit for and they have an excellent collection of rides. Thank you, and I agree about the park as well. I think this park has more trees/shade than any other cedar fair park. Onto lakemont park. Lakemont park is a small park about 20 away from Delgrossos park. It is also home to the oldest operating coaster in the world....leap the dips. Not bad at all...and to top it off it was a friday, so it was only $5 for a wristband. The park looks like it relies on party bookings as they have a lot of picinic pavilions. The main midway Here are the rides that make up the main midway The park also has a kiddy land with several kids rides and a coaster. The park also has a car ride The park also has a great little wooden coaster. This coaster is very under rated. Here are a bunch of pictures from the ride. I got permission from the ride op to take some on ride pictures. View to the right when going up the lift hill. Gotta love the old school control system Old skid breaking The park also has a few more rides and a small waterpark. What's this I see lurking thru the trees? Yes!...It's an old school skydiver. I used to love this ride, but as I just found out I can't fit into them like I used to. It's a skydiver, but the control panel says trabant? This is the worlds oldest operating coaster. A little history Leap the dips is a side friction coaster If you want to ride, you have to buy a ticket classic lift hill looks safe to me. notice the anti roll backs? Station shot Transfer track area Some of the cars look as if they have not been used in years This is what stops you A few last looks. This is the old style lift hill chain One last look back One of the parks restaurant menus. I passed on this coaster They used to have a octopuss ride here The park also has a mini golf course Looks like this used to be a games area We had a great time at lakemont park, but its time to move onto our next park Our next stop will be in the next update.
thrillrider Posted July 16, 2015 Author Posted July 16, 2015 A few bonus shots from lakemont.... 3 bench PTC on the skyliner Part of the back midway
coasterbill Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Great pictures again. While I really didn't care for Lakemont I agree that Skyliner is underrated and absolutely loved Leap the Dips.
thrillrider Posted July 16, 2015 Author Posted July 16, 2015 It kinda looks like this park may be in some trouble. I sure hope that if something were to happen to the park, that the coasters could be saved.
Geauga Dog Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Never been to Lakemont so thanks for the photos as I've wondered what the park looks like. It looks a little "depressing" though the rides seem like they are relatively well taken care of.

It looks a little "depressing" though the rides seem like they are relatively well taken care of. It's definitely worth the trip if you have never been there. The oldest coaster in the world, and the skyliner coaster is worth the trip. Plus it's really cheap to get in. The rides were in o-k shape. They needed a coat of paint.
DoinItForTheFame Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Keep up the great photos. Loving the reports from all the parks. Never been to Lakemont so thanks for the photos as I've wondered what the park looks like. It looks a little "depressing" though the rides seem like they are relatively well taken care of. I agree... I have always wondered what Lakemont looks like... But it does look a little "depressing" . . . It reminds me of the use to be Bells Amusement Park in Tulsa...

Before the mega parks of the 70s and 80s this is how a lot of small town amusement parks looked. The rides may need a coat of paint but are well maintained. I'm sure they don't make a ton of money but I've never seen any reports of them in financial trouble. If you want depressing and questionable maintenance go to conneaut lake park.

Maybe "depressing" wasn't a good choice of words but I think you hit it on the nail that it basically hasn't changed in years. I guess the short Boyertown era didn't really change the park much either except the relocation and addition of Skyliner. I've been to Conneaut a few times and that place does take "depressing" to a whole other level but Blue Streak is so worth going there to ride.
Brent York Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 You went to KD on a Tuesday, correct? Can't believe Volcano was so crowded. Too bad more parks haven't added others like it, as it really is a "blast". I never thought Shockwave was rough, although I haven't ridden it in 5 years. I don't see any anti-roll backs on Leap the Dips (?). Aren't those just chain dogs?
thrillrider Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 Shockwave is not ruff, it's just jerkey and uncomfortable. On leap the dips, if you look on either side of the car going up the lift, you can see them. They look like pieces of 2x4's on springs. They black or dark green in color. Delgrossos pictures are coming tomorrow.
John Peck Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Great Pics so far! I didn't realize you guys had three kids.
nhman93 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Just curious what day where you at Lakemount? I was their on Friday the 3rd and my impressions of the park are very similar to yours. Also did you make it over twords the waterpark to see the fish in the little river? The fish could have been the most interesting thing in the whole park along with leap the dips and where the highlight of my day.

Never did make it into the Waterpark.
thrillrider Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 On to our next park....Delgrosso's! This is a small park with 2 coasters and a great selection of rides. The biggest coaster is a wild mouse coaster, and the other coaster is a wacky worm. Rockstar is the parks latest attraction(a flying carpet type ride) and seems to be a hit. The Delgrosso's family started this park with the profits from making pasta sauce. The park is very clean, and has some nice landscaping and great food. We were able to get a whole pizza for $11! It was very good pizza as well. In comparison, we were at carowinds a few days ago, and they wanted $26 for a pizza that was not nearly as good. While we were there, we were able to check out the progress on the water park expansion. I am not a big waterpark person, but this is going to be a hit for this park as the exsisting water park seems to draw quite a crowd. The new waterpark will open next season. The park sells an all you can ride wrist band, or you can buy individual ride tickets. Onto the pictures of the great little park. After a short 20 min drive from lakemont, we have arrived at our next stop. In order to get into the park, you have to walk thru the waterpark. The waterpark is recieving a large expansion that is to open next year. This is what the expansion will look like when done. Lot's of work going on. Let's take a look Into the park. This is the lay of the land. This is the parks new attraction Great looking ride with a nice lighting package. One last look This is the parks star attraction. Hidden mickey? Next to the mouse coaster, they have a pretty good drop tower. This is a beautiful little park, and has a great selection of rides. Let's take a look at them.... They have a paratrooper ride with seats I have never seen on a paratrooper before. This ride looked somewhat new. The seats looked like a classic chevy This used to be one of my favorate rides as a child. They also have a fairly large bumper car ride. This is the back midway of the park There is a train ride off the midway Did I mention how clean the park was? Here are a few more of the parks rides. Not sure if this was working or not, as I did not see it cycle while we were there. Classic scrambler ride. Here is the parks other coaster. It's a wacky worm. If you have kids, the park has a wonderfull selection of kids rides. The games midway! In case you forgot where I am Great food, at great prices. A few more random shots of this park. Large picnic shelter area History of the park can be found here. That's it from Delgrosso's Our next stop of the tour will be coming soon.
thrillrider Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 I forgot to mention that we bought a jar of Delgross's spaggetti sauce and had it last night. It was delicious!
grsupercity Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I forgot to mention that we bought a jar of Delgross's spaggetti sauce and had it last night. It was delicious! Looks like a very nice little park. I will have to try that sauce. Another nice set of photos, thank you!

Geauga Dog Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Another great set of photos of a park I have yet to visit and thank you for what I think is the most thorough look at everything DelGrosso's offers. I can't help but notice just how scenic the surroundings are, like the pic of the Pharoah's Fury and the tree filled mountain in the back. The park looks bigger than what the map illustrates.

It's a beautiful little park. The park really is not that big. You could probably do all the rides one time each in about an hour or two. We have been there before, and this time around we just hit up the coasters and took some pictures. I definitely suggest checking it out if you are in the area, but don't expect a mega park. I also suggest while there, you try out the food they have to offer. I believe that every wends, they have a spaghetti dinner in one of the pavilions that you can purchase if interested.
