Wingwright Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 I know they promote them as a "coaster," but are they buying them because they're cheaper and take less space? Yes.
djackson Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 What if they did a 4D superloop that would combine both their latest additions to their parks in one.
coasterbill Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Can someone explain to me why Six Flags has been buying so many Super Loops and adding them to its parks? I've been on El Diablo at Six Flags Great Adv. Personally for me, it's nothing special. It feels like a super cheap version of a coaster, carnival style. It adds nothing to their list of awesome coasters. I also fear that they will be adding this ride to my home park, La Ronde. I know they promote them as a "coaster," but are they buying them because they're cheaper and take less space? Maybe trying to reduce spending, especially considering the financial difficulties they've had in the past? How popular are these rides with the general public? Do they even care if people like them or not? Also, where did the idea of adding 4d coasters come from and how did they get so popular? This, too, feels like a low end version of a modern coaster, even though it's something new. I'm assuming innovative and big coasters are too expensive and take too much space, so they want to entertain their audience with these types of rides. Of course, this is my personal opinion, but I have a strong feeling that they'll be eventually adding these two rides at La Ronde, considering the limited space, which is really dreadful for a theme park / coaster fanatic! Okay so I have a theory... now stay with me on this. Maybe... just maybe... your opinion doesn't translate to everyone else and some people like different things. Obviously these aren't coasters and they're not as enjoyable as coasters for most people but they honestly provide a pretty enjoyable ride that's fun and thrilling for a very reasonable price tag. Enthusiasts seem to be unreasonably annoyed by these rides because they're marketed as coasters but never complain about rides like the Intamin inverting ships found at KD, Carowinds and BGT or any type of Zamperla inverting ride like Meteor at Dorney which provide basically the same ride experience. The only reason enthusiasts have a problem with these rides is because they don't like the marketing, but honestly who cares? A lot of people like them, they have cool lighting packages, look nice and don't cost much so they leave open the door for a larger expansion in the following year(s). I don't care what the hell they call it, and if calling it a coaster helps them sell tickets then go for it. It's not like anyone outside of the enthusiast community would know the difference. Now on the subject of LaRonde. Let's pretend this thing was actually a coaster. If this were a coaster it would probably be the 4th best coaster in the park after Goliath, Vampire and (believe it or not) Dragon. It's also perfect for LaRonde because it comes out of the box with only 1 "train" which means it would fit right in because of it's low capacity. It would also be one of the most (see: only) aesthetically pleasing rides in the park which is never a bad thing. I have no issue with these rides and actually kind of enjoy them.

The Super manege and Boomerang are so much better than a super loop, even though it's my personal opinion. I think the general public would agree with me on that. Even the unrideable mess Ednor is better. Six Flags has some strong justifications to add a Larson loop and a 4d coaster to a park like La Ronde in the future: limited space and cheap. 4d coaster will be promoted as the best thing since Goliath (or Ednor if you consider it to be decent coaster), and we won't get at least a half decent coaster for another decade. That's what I fear is going to happen.
coasterbill Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 A Larson loop would be the 4th best coaster? This is all opinion based of course, but in my opinion... absolutely. La Ronde's Boomerang is abysmal, Ednor is a torture device and I think everyone would agree that Super Manege sucks. It's a Vekoma corkscrew. lol A Larson Loop would arguably be the best ride in the park besides the 3 coasters I mentioned earlier, the carnie breakdance and La Pitoune, the best ride in the park by a mile. ... sorry, by a kilometer
coasterkid124 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 These rides have actually impressed me a bit. I went in expecting a typical carny ride, but they are actually quite good. I would love to see a "mega" model of some sort, but what parks would actually add one now? Many of the SF parks (including some larger ones) have already received one, and I cannot see Cedar Fair/Herschend parks getting one.
grsupercity Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 I still stand by my original comment that a 200 foot tall Larson loop was look amazing from a midway
bill_s Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 I think if I saw a 400 foot one, I'd vomit on the spot. I really don't ever want see or hear one again after my one ride.
mordecai-75 Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 I think they are very solid gut wrenching flat rides. They are also very eye appealing in my opinion. If Larson can make them bigger, i hope they do. The bigger the better.
hesukaheadRBLX Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 They do look rather cool, I must admit. It's just a shame that they aren't that well known outside of the coaster community (When my friends who aren't coaster nerds see B&M or Giovanola track (and in some cases, Intamin Standup track) they immediately say "B&M!" due to the familiarity, and they, to some extent, would be correct, B&M worked in/with all of the companies aforementioned), and from what I've heard from friends and family, rather unloved.
