gerstlaueringvar
Happy Valley Beijing's Vekoma Shenlin SLC just valleyed at the Cobra Roll. Fantawild's Golden Horse Shenlin knock-off also valleyed at about the same spot a couple of years back. Is it a design thing? Vekoma's Cobra Roll seem to have both halves at the same height so during high wind or cold weather it is more likely to valley. But on the pictures the train is apparently empty. Beijing is about 43 degrees now.
El Toro_Ryan
Valleying is common on coasters, especially in cold weather. That train looks empty so I'm guessing it was an early morning test run so it's completely normal. Most coasters have a particular spot where they valley due to weird hill heights so that's probably where trains valley on that specific SLC model. El Toro likes to valley on the last hill into the brake run or a ride like Raptor likes to valley on the climb up into the MCBR. I love Raptor but it's always weirded me out that all those hills here are the same height haha #nerdtalk
GwaziBSRider1
Cobra Rolls seem to be a magnet for valleying. Fahrenheit vallyed in its cobra roll on its opening day. Talk about a bad start!
rcjp
Kumali at Flamingo Land has catwalks on the cobra roll so probably it has happened a few times too.
Comeagain?
Cobra Rolls are weird, they require a lot of energy to make it through. Once you make it through the first inversion you have to go straight back up and over without much space to recoup some of that energy.
El Toro_Ryan
Most cobra rolls are the same height on both sides so valleying is common. A lot of newer B&M's feature cobra rolls with lower second halves to avoid this though. Picture by David H of TPR
rcjp
^Was that the last cobra roll B&M built? Because I can't seem to remember any B&M after that with one.

rcjp
^LOL About raptor, I wonder how often it valleys given how slowly it enters the MCBR even with a full train on a normal day.
markysharky17
When I was at Cedar Point two years ago Raptor barely made it through the cobra roll and stalled going into the brake run. I still can't believe Goliath at SFNE didnt stall while I was there. It seriously looks like it makes it through the Cobra Roll at like 5mph. 11slataus
^I remember the same thing when I rode Aftershock. All the GIBs seem to go almost uncomfortably slow through the cobra roll, especially the second time. I've only seen it in videos, but I really think it looks like Goliath's new train causes it to go even slower than it used to, but maybe that's just me. El Toro_Ryan
Vekoma seems to have a bad track record with valleying. Jubilee Odyssey at Fantasy Island comes to mind. I think several of its hills had to be lowered.

All the GIBs seem to go almost uncomfortably slow through the cobra roll, especially the second time. The first time is fine but yeah, on the second they go really slow. But these things will always happen with shuttle coasters. They would have to make it go even faster through the loop to make it go over the cobra roll at a normal speed, which would probably mean the Gs would be too high.
