Old Theme Park In Arizona Founded In 1938

This park was founded in 1938 and, according to the article, was planned to rival Disneyland (which opened nearly 20 years later) at one point. Drive by this place today and you could easily miss it. Theme parks have been around longer than most of us. You can see pics by clicking on the link.

I just find places like this so interesting. I never knew there was another town called Santa Claus in the United States.

You know, I've actually driven by that exact place many times. It's on the highway between Las Vegas and Kingman on your way towards Flagstaff. I never had any idea it was a defunct amusement park.

I wonder how many of these old, abandoned parks still exist that we have no idea are around? It's an interesting thought to ponder.

I seen this the other day. I always enjoy seeing pictures of these places as it's sad and interesting at the same time.

 

I grew up near a decaying remains of an attempted mini "theme park". It was supposed to open in the 40's or 50's but not sure if it did. The last thing that was on site was a pumpkin building but I believe it is gone by now.

This does not look like it was to rival Disneyland and more like it was to rival the Santa's Village amusement parks that used to exist.

Just because I'm an awesome dude, I'm thinking of making a drive down there fairly soon. I can't do it this week but perhaps next week. Work is hectic around this time for me with all of the special events for Christmas and New Year's, but it's only an hour away from my apartment.
