_koppen Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Trains has arrived, and they look rather good. Source
gerstlaueringvar Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Look nice, but kinda like Fluch von Novgorod's train I think…
deano Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) I went to Adventure World today to purchase my season pass, they only just opened up for the season last week. Â Abyss is coming along nicely and it was nice to see it from a different perspective. Â Part 1 Park signage has been updated Kahuna Falls was last years new addition, impressive View across the pool New park map View of Abyss from the waterslide hill Wow, love it Entrance archway in place 2 of the 3 vehicles still wrapped up Photos from the chairlift coming in the next post Love this pic Adventure World CEO Mark Shaw (white hardhat) giving some advice on the entrance theming He's even lending a hand... This is where the smaller bits of theming are being stored Themed bins!!! Abyss entrance sign looks ready to be installed on the archway Edited October 1, 2013 by deano
deano Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Part 2 Â Thanks for reading. View of the park from the top of the hill ...where I caught the chairlift of death for a better look at Abyss A few years ago, Freefall replaced Turbo Mountain, the old Jet Star coaster that has been Adventure World since '91 New angles!..... There are still heaps of hooded figures to be put in place Cant wait to ride this airtime hill Just as I passed on the chairlift, they rolled out this vehicle, no sign of testing yet though
Coaster Cow Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Knowing how awesome the final dive loop on Karacho at Tripsdrill is, I can only hope that this one lives up to it.
coasterfreak101 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 So it's definitely a modified Saw - should be good, I loved Saw when I rode it over the weekend!
australianalex Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 I'm getting stupidly excited over this, especially considering Perth is over 2000 miles from where I live and I probably won't end up visiting until mid next year at the earliest. Oh well. Trains look great. Can't help but think they'd look a whole lot better with lapbars though - but we can't have it all!
Jackdude101 Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Fun fact: Perth, Australia is the most isolated major city in the world (there are big cities in Indonesia that are closer to it than the other big cities in Australia). This very well could mean that Abyss will be the most isolated large roller coaster in the world when it opens.
simon8899 Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 ^Hope they stockpile enough spare parts  Quite different from when the Huss Ranger broke down at Hansa-Park around 10am - Huss on site at 2pm - ride operational again around 4pm...
jedimaster1227 Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Looks like a fun little Eurofighter! Great to see parks even as remote as Adventure World getting major additions like this!
Moose Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Looks like a great new coaster. Hopefully it doesn't get the train rattle that seems to be common on eurofighters.
deano Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Just heard Abyss is testing, will swing by tomorrow and try to film it in action.
simon8899 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 ^^this normally only starts after about 3-4 years - so the first years should be fine.
JAMMYD778 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Test run video of the ride below. I have to say, that airtime hill looks very strong and also seems to provide a very close headchopper with the catwalk of the MCBR. However, the twisted drop off of the MCBR does look like a very sharp transition. I hope it doesn't ride badly with the OTSR's. Â
rctneil Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 It actually looks like a really nice coaster and i'm glad Perth now has a good substantial coaster to call their own. Looking forward to hearing the first rider reports.
_koppen Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 The pacing looks perfect! Â Unlike some other companies out there, Gerstlauer actually knows how to produce ejector airtime!
johnnyknottsville Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Wow that makes me think of didn't someone just recently post a topic about being able to see airtime in a pic or just by looking at a hill? Well after watching this video and seeing the train take that hill you can not only see the airtime I felt it through my computer screen
australianalex Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 Sheezus it sure takes that airtime hill fast, even more so than Saw which already delivers some pretty strong airtime. I never thought I'd say this but I hope the MCBR comes on a little stronger than the test video, because the transitions of the elements following it will probably be brutal.
deano Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 After almost a week of visiting Adventure World in the hope of seeing it testing, I managed to time it right today.  Watching it do test runs, the main things that stood out for me were...  1. It's so quiet, it's almost silent. I've ridden new coasters before (no Eurofighters yet) and have never heard such little noise from a ride. 2. Airtime hill looks more intense in person, wow! 3. I could barely hear or see the MCBR engage, let's hope they leave it like this when it opens.  Another minor thing I noticed is that the hooded figures look to be installed in a way they ever so slightly rock and sway in the wind, don't know if it's just because the theming and landscaping isn't finished yet but it kinda looks even more creepy with them moving about.  The end of the month cannot come quick enough.  http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=Abyss_1_mzug   Abyss from across the pool Abyss behind Kahuna Falls Entrance sign still not installed
deano Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Article from today's West Australian. Â http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/wa/19395857/edge-of-abyss-for-thrill-of-a-ride/ Â Â German service technician Martin Daxle makes the final checks on Adventureworld's new roller coaster. Picture: Mogens Johansen/The West Australian A ride on the Abyss will challenge the bravest of thrillseekers. Adventure World gave the roller-coaster a test run this week ahead of its official opening on November 1. Â The cart was surrounded by darkness as it began to wind up and down and around corners. Â Â Riders spent much of the journey upside down, with countless twists and turns around the track. Â Anticipation built on the 30m climb to the roller-coaster's peak as the vertical incline left riders feeling as though they would fall out of their seats. Â The inverted track on the drop that followed set the exhilarating pace for the rest of the ride, which sent the coaster on a series of bends and loops. Â For Gerstlauer service technician Martin Daxle, the experience made all his hard work worth it. "I have worked on roller-coasters for the past 26 years and I love my job," he said. Â Mr Daxle and his team have worked on the Abyss seven days a week for seven weeks. Â Adventure World chief executive Mark Shaw was one of the first to ride the Abyss. Â He felt scared but not of the ride itself. "My only fear was whether it was going to live up to expectations, and it did," he said. Â Mr Shaw said once the finishing touches were completed, the track would be encased in complete blackness for the first part of the ride, adding to the thrill.
