Theme Park Studio (TPS) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Ok so i hope i dont come off dumb, however, im confused on this new release. Is all this means is that you can experience your park in 3D by walking through it and riding?

EDIT: I read up on the Oculus Rift and i understand a bit more. So the game already has the system built in, you just need to buy the headset? Am i on track here or heading off a cliff?

You can walk through the park and ride rides without any special hardware setup. As far as the Occulus Rift, the headset only works on games that include special support for it, and TPS is going to, so yes, you're right there. If you buy the headset, it's guaranteed to work with the game - and that is going to be amazing.

I've never heard of Oculus Rift until now, and it sounds great! Now I just need to save up some money to get it!

^It's absolutely amazing how incredible the game looks. The details and quality are really stunning!

This product is looking better and better every day! Cant wait for its release!!!

I have 2 questions

1)Im sure it was said before, however, will all rides be able to be customized in color? I assume so since everything else is customizable.

2)How many total train types will there be in the Platinum game?

Well, first it has to come out. There's a developer's kit available now, but the actual end-user version is expected sometime in 2014, IIRC. On the upside, the final version is supposed to be considerably better than the developer kit (much higher resolution, etc), so it's going to be worth the wait, I think!

I like that they're considering a PS3 version. While it's highly unlikely they'll reach the $250,000 mark with 24 days to go, I appreciate their interest. Perhaps if the game is a success, they will release the Mac/PS3 versions (or maybe PS4?). I can't wait for this and NL2. If both are released this year, this will be the best year ever for Roller Coaster/Theme Park simulators. Edit- Ooh, spooky. The number of backers for Theme Park Studio is 666 !

Looks like this kickstarter could come right down to the wire. Does anyone know if that free digital copy of hyper rails can be bought anywhere online? I remember when I was little making half pipe style hyper coasters using it, and wanted to play again to see if i could still make them.

I don't think they're going to make it, but I think they can get above $50,000 with another push. Unfortunately, they set their goal too high, so I don't think they're going to get any payout from this. Luckily it looks like they weren't necessarily counting on it to get the game done, but we probably won't see any additional features.

I'm glad these updates are posted here, every time I look on Facebook or kickstarter and just see all complaints about things that have been stated to be in the game but not ready for showing yet (like peeps) just makes me want to bang my head against the computer, I wonder how different No Limits 2 would turn out in the end if it had a facebook page and kickstarter and tried to please everyone....

Excuse my ignorance, but in regards to the name of the game, couldn't EA sue Pantera for the Theme Park name? I know they haven't released a Theme Park branded game in over a decade, but it wouldn't surprise me if EA speaks up, unless it's been so long since they've used the name, the trademark has expired.

I don't see how considering how genereic the word theme park is. It would be like whoever made that old game called roller coaster sueing everyone that puts roller-coaster in its title, roller coaster tycoon, roller coaster factpry etc etc.

Finally pledged myself, but at this rate they aren't going to make their minimum goal required to collect the money. I think they've captured all of the enthusiast crowd that's willing to pledge for this, now they need to branch out into technical and video game communities to get support. Reddit would be a good place to start.

The name of the game is "Theme Park Studio"

I know. But since Tim Langdell was able to sue anyone who used the word Edge in their products (thankfully, he lost), I realized EA could attempt do the same with this if they felt so inclined.

They really do need to advertise better. I don't know of anyone who'd heard of this before I mentioned it to them, even people who are desperately waiting for a new RCT game. So many people that would love this, that don't know it's out there!

I can probably pledge a little more myself, but we really need a lot more backers...

There was a new update posted today showing off some of the themed buildings: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1011099242/theme-park-studio-create-the-ultimate-theme-park/posts/473352

I do want to say this about the project - as of right now, the Kickstater is looking like it may not making it's funding goal. I've been working with Steve at Pantera to help spread the word about the project, and depending on how close he gets to the funding goal may determine whether or not this project continues to move forward.

In short, if he believes there is an audience for it, he'll continue to develop it. I hope as many people as possible on TPR are excited about the opportunity of a new theme park/roller coaster sim, a genre that has mostly been abandoned by publishers that past 10 years.

PLEASE SUPPORT THIS PROJECT!!! Even if you can only pledge $20 towards the Kickstarter, showing that you are in support of this game will go a LONG way!

Click the Kickstarter link above and back them!

I'm just wondering- why didn't Pantera go with Indiegogo instead of Kickstarter? The reason why I ask is because Indiegogo has a policy where unsuccessful campaigns can keep the funds that were raised if they pay a 9% fee (compared to the 4% fee for a successful campaign).

For those of you who aren't familiar with Indiegogo, it works just like Kickstarter in that it's a crowd-funding site, but there are two options. One is the Fixed Funding campaigns, which is the same thing as Kickstarter- if the goal is met, Indiegogo charges a fee (4% of the amount raised). If it's not met, the project receives no funds and anything that was pledged is refunded. The other option is called Flexible Funding, where the project receives all the funds that are contributed, regardless of how much was actually raised- the variability comes in terms of the fees. It's 4% if the project meets its goal, 9% otherwise.

Here's a link to the Fees and Pricing FAQs on Indiegogo: Fees & Pricing: Indiegogo Support

Obviously there has already been so much effort put into the Kickstarter effort, and I do hope they can find a way to meet the $80,000 goal. I myself don't have the funds to donate at this exact moment, but I plan to do so before the the deadline (trying to aim for the $50 and above tiers!). So I understand if Pantera doesn't have the time or resources to launch another campaign, but so long as it's not prohibited, maybe they could try this again on Indiegogo if the Kickstarter goal isn't met?

This is just an idea I had. This way there might still be a way to move forward with the project, even if it means that some of the features would have to be scaled back or eliminated due to a lack of funds. But the way I see it, a slimmed-down, partially funded project is still better than it being cancelled entirely. Maybe this idea could be forwarded to Pantera? Of course, in the meantime, the focus should definitely be on spreading the word and supporting the Kickstarter effort. I'm just thinking of a possible Plan B that they could use. I want to see this game made available as do many other TPR members and theme park fans out there, but as Robb mentioned, it looks like they may not make their goal despite our efforts, which is a shame seeing as there has been over $45,000 pledged!
