jray21
He's already made millions and millions by cheating, so he obviously doesn't care what people think. It's always been about the money, and always will be.
molemaster43
Extremely intense game between Pirates and Cardinals going into the 14th now... Â I'm curious, does anyone know of any 6-9-3 double plays, minus the one in this game?
Sir Clinksalot
Regarding the PED thing, and A-Roid, I pretty much agree with Joey. I've never liked it and would have liked to see this addressed in 1998, not 2013. If Selig would have done the right thing during the McGwire/Sosa Summer we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. Â As for A-Roid in particular, idiot needs to just shut up already. If I was a Yankee fan there is no way I'd support the team. If I was the Yankees manager, A-Roid would be sitting on the bench. I don't care if I have to bring somebody up from A-ball. Wonder what Selig is going to say when A-Roid wins a game for the Yankees and it's the deciding factor in them getting to the Playoffs or another team not getting in the Playoffs? Wonder what Selig is going to say if A-Roid makes a major impact in the playoffs? Do the Yankees get an asterisk if they happen to win the WS this year? Â The whole thing sucks and I think A-Roid being able to play has the potential to taint the game more than all of the other cheaters combined. Jew
Considering how awful Yankees 3rd basemen were hitting, I don't think you would be sitting A-rod if you valued your job. And therein lies the problem: no one ultimately cares about PED's if it helps a team win and sells more tickets. Â Baseball has a time honored tradition of cheating, whether it be corked bats, spitballs (Gaylord Perry is in the hall of fame and is best known for his vaseline pitches), amphetamines, and even segregation cheating the white players out of facing the elite talent of the negro leagues for that matter...PED's are just the latest. The difference is that MLB is trying to pretend like they care instead of turning a blind eye like with other methods of cheating, which is just embarrassing them even more. Ape
I'm with trout on the whole PED thing. Lifetime ban for an offense just to try and finally eliminate them. I've always felt you need to allow it or go full on with punishment and no inbetween. Â This last week has been awesome for me and my reds. Climbing back into this thing. Hopwfully they can steal the division back. This last stretch of baseball should be exciting for the NL central regardless of what happens. gisco
Something is wrong when Pete Rose gets banned from the Hall of Fame for betting on baseball, not his own team, and players that use PED's to set records get a slap on the wrist.
Jew
^It's crazy that MLB's all time hits leader and home run leader will never be in the Hall of Fame. Says a lot about baseball.
Sir Clinksalot
Charlie Manuel out in Philly. Â Now I'm not a Phillies fan at all, and I know they pretty much suck, but shouldn't winning a World Series pretty much insure you don't get fired during the season? I think Manuel deserved better than that.
Movieguy
*Sigh*...Pirates lose again to Arizona, and will most likely get swept in San Diego like they did in Colorado. Â Pirates fans...the collapse is upon us.
ernierocker
^I am surprised the collapse hasn't happened yet, but I would go overboard just yet. They are in great position for the playoffs.
Movieguy
^ Well, having endured this futility from the Pirates for so long, I'm almost certain they'll find some way to screw it all up. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose even more games than the end of last season, the way they're playing now. They've gone from taking down the mighty reds and Cards, to not being able to beat teams like the Rockies and the Diamondbacks. Â If Clint Hurdle isn't finally thrown out after this season, I will scream.
Jew
Baseball is always a streaky game. Look at the Dodgers. You can afford to lose to crappy competition as long as they can hold on and win those division series at the end of the season.
DanM64
Sorry the Cubs didn't help the Bucs out by losing to the Cardinals today. I think they'll be fine. It would be really nice to see them in the playoffs. Â Think the owners will ok the instant replay for next year? I don't see why they wouldn't, and it's about time they get it!
Movieguy
Ok, Bucs shut out the Padres. That's more like it. Hopefully they can build on it from here.
Ape
I would find it unbelievably hilarious is the pirates blew it again. However I would much rather them finish in the playoffs or above the reds over the cardinals. Pirates fans deserve a winning year. Pirates may be setting themselves up for a world of hurt at the end here and into the playoffs with how much they have used the bullpen.
Sir Clinksalot
^ They'll get a winning season, but I'd also like to see them get in the Playoffs. Â Just in, the Doyers are human after all. Back-to-Back losses to the Phillies and Marlins. First back-to-back losses in 2 months. Â They need to come out pissed tonight.
Movieguy
That's the thing about the Pirates. Earlier this year, they were just going out, playing, having a good time, and winning as well. Now Hurdle is stepping in and trying to manufacture wins, and that's what makes me nervous, because that's what led to the last two collapses. Hurdle needs to take the pressure off these guys, especially the bullpen, and 'Cutch, if he wants to have any hopes of getting the Bucs into the playoffs. Ape
The reds will end up taking the division from the pirates in the final couple of weeks when we see each other 6 times. I'm not just hating on the pirates. Reds the last several years have been very good for the final months of regular season and the pirates the opposite. I really think the bullpen will have problems for the pirates in the end unless they are incredibly lucky.
Movieguy
All right! 8-1 Pirates over Padres. First time they've won two in a row for a while. Â Yeah, the Reds might end up winning the division. The NL Central is very competitive. But, if the Bucs can hang on and at least finish with a respectable record, I'll be very happy, and the pressure will be off the team for next season. Ape
Both the reds and pirates have something to prove this year. The pirates a winning season and the reds to advance in the playoffs. That being said I'd like to see a scenario where the reds win the division the pirates hold the first wild card spot and the cardinals the third. Pirates win and then the reds meet the pirates in the nlcs after beating round one opponents.
Movieguy
^ That'd be a nice scenario. Maybe in the next few years, the Pirates and the Reds (whom I have nothing against at all) will build up a nice little rivalry that even the media can look at when they're not focused on the Yankees and Red Sox.
Ape
After the fight with the cardinals in 2010 they tried to hype up the rivalry between those two but it has kind of died off recently I think in part because it wasn't too long after the fight phillips met with molina and they buried the hatchet. I can somewhat see a rivalry building between the reds and pirates ever since last season when the pirates decided they were going to throw at a reds player every other game.
