RideofSteel Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I saw TPR's pov of Battlestar Galactica the other day, and I was wondering who rode it? What was it like?
SharkTums Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I know that Robb is working on a full Universal Singapore Trip Report, but I can tell you my feelings. It's very good for a Vekoma, probably the best big Vekoma's out there not at a Disney park. They don't hurt, which is very nice! However, the layouts are taken VERY slowly and there aren't a lot of forces on the rides. They're a lot of fun, but no Dueling Dragons back in its heyday.
coastercrazy216 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 ^How is the launch? It seems like it was gradual, but at the same time, forceful.
SharkTums Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 ^It's very gentle. The back seat of Human gives you a nice pop of airtime, you don't feel too much on Cylon.
Noxegon Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I still think that Gravity Max is the best of the big Vekoma rides, but I'd rank BSG in a close second. Elissa is right, though; it's no Duelling Dragons.
SharkTums Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 ^It's probably better than Dragon Challenge though!
Noxegon Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Honestly, I feel the neutering of the dragons was an inevitability in the litigation happy culture that is the United States. It was only a matter of time before a airborne mobile phone clobbered a guest on the other train in a fashion likely to cause permanent injury. Universal gets the punters through the gates anyway, all the more so with Harry Potter, so why risk the cash cow over something that at the end of the day makes very little difference to the average rider?
XYZ Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 After watching the Battlestar Galactica POV from TPR (amazing POV by the way), I found it odd that the Human side has no inversions while Cylon has 5 inversions. I know you don't need inversions to make it a good ride, but it's really weird when one side has so many inversions while the other has none.

DougMJr Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 It does look slow, do you think that it was intended to operate at a faster launch speed?
SharkTums Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 It does look slow, do you think that it was intended to operate at a faster launch speed? Yes.
vacoaster09 Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I still think that Gravity Max is the best of the big Vekoma rides, but I'd rank BSG in a close second. Elissa is right, though; it's no Duelling Dragons. I have always loved looking at videos of that ride... I wish a park would build on in the states so I could ride one. It does look slow, do you think that it was intended to operate at a faster launch speed? Yes. Looking at the video it just seemed like the ride is begging for more "UMMMFFF", more juice, more speed. I feel like those launches could be faster and the whole relative dueling maintained but at a faster speed. The way Ride moves seems like a child put on ritalin but it looks awesome! Would love to ride it.
Mechanic Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 If it went any faster the seats might fall off. Oh, wait...
DarkStitch626 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 If it went any faster the seats might fall off. Oh, wait... Oooh Snap, wait a tick.
MrSum1_55 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 It does look slow, do you think that it was intended to operate at a faster launch speed? Yes. Does anyone know the reasoning for this? Was it a reliability issue, or an attempt to make the ride more family-friendly. The only part of the ride that really looks very exciting to me is the loop on the Cylon side. The slow speed looks like it would give some good hand-time. It would be a real bummer if it were a reliability issue, because it does look like it could be an amazing ride, just ruined by the Vekoma reliability curse. Firehawk at KI was running really smooth last summer, and is now my favorite non-Disney Vekoma. However, even their best coaster has to suffer from massive down-time.
australianalex Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 ^Too soon! Sorry for my stupidity but I don't follow?
netdvn Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 ^ One of the seats fell off from the Cyclon side during the testing phase. That's why it was down for so long. I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the reasons the launch speed had to be slowed either.
