Interesting topic. I think they come handy when you need some sort of projectile and you're defenseless, or if you have extremely good flicking skills, you can flick 'em at drivers who tick you off on the road.

A few years ago, I saw a local anchorwoman picking her nose as she was driving down the freeway. What a sight! Her beautifully manicured fingernail diving in just past the first knuckle.

I think she rubbed it off on the passenger seat.
