Anything Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 For any fitness fanatics out there, what is your resting heart rate? I do a lot of cardio work in the gym now, and after a month of non-smoking I have managed to get mine down to 49bpm.
cal1br3tto Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Oh, mine has been terrible for years! Or maybe not...Google results are inconclusive. It's 100 bpm. I'm bad at calculating it myself, so I found out when I checked my blood pressure the other day. (Shockingly, my blood pressure is still...normal!) I'll admit I didn't do the recommended 15 minutes of relaxation beforehand, but I'm not sure it mattered. Caffeine intake is one factor.
DougMJr Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 ^Are you sure you were not suffering from White Coat Syndrome when you got your blood pressure checked? I'm always on edge when I go to the doctors. Just calculated mine here using an online BPM counter and I'm at 57, which I think is pretty good. I don't really work out but I keep a healthy diet and I don't smoke and I hardly drink.
Invertalon Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I have reallllly bad white coat syndrome. So bad, I had to buy a monitor to check it myself at home and record it a few times a month and report to my doctor every physical. Normally, my B.P. is 134/78 or so... Still elevated, but I am improving that. Changing diet and stuff. My resting pulse is around 64. At the doctors, my B.P. is usually 155/85.. My last visit before my out-patient surgery, it was 170/100 or something... The lady wondered if I was OK, really concerned. I told her I was fine and just have a bad case of WCS... This happens at the dentist too when they check it there for whatever reason. I just get really stressed out I guess, because I don't feel all that hyped up. The 170/100 was my highest recorded ever, though! My doctor did confirm my B.P. monitor I use at home is accurate to his, though. I don't know why, but it just shoots up when people take it besides myself. Even those stupid things in stores by the pharmacy. Stresses me out!
jason10 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Well, mine is 68. For someone who doesn't do much exercise, it's not too shabby. I did have a cake just now, so the caffeine might have effected it, but, it's close enough for now.
cal1br3tto Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Well, good news for me. I recently discovered that checking your heart rate during the day will only get you your "ambient heart rate". You determine resting heart rate by checking it right after waking up, before moving around. Mine was 70 bpm today, and I was relieved that it turned out to be reasonable. Hopefully caffeine and stress are the main reasons my ambient heart rate is 30 beats higher.
Anything Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 ^ Yes, that's the time to take it and is the only time I have achieved 49!
niiicolaaah Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Mine is usually about 65, but the other day before I gave blood it was 62. Maybe I have the opposite of white coat syndrome.
RollerCoasterSmi Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Just measured my heart rate; it is 60 bpm, I'm pretty relaxed!
gisco Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Interesting that no one with a heart rate over 70 is posting in here. I just took mine and it was 68 but I have been up for three hours. I will have to remember to take it when I get up. I have WCS too. I had a problem getting the lowest rate on life insurance because my blood pressure was just over 130. They only care about the upper number, not the lower or heart rate. Twice I walked out of an exam for my insurance because it was too high. What I finally did to get past the WCS was I had the physical done at my home first thing in the morning. Coming to my office at the end of the day with the daily stress and coffee was a mistake before. The other thing I did was spend an hour in my hot tub right before the exam to help relax. A side benefit of the heat is that it lowers your blood pressure but your heart rate will zoom which they don't care about. They took the reading first thing and it was 127/70, I passed. They took it again at the end and by that time I knew I had passed and the rate dropped to 117/65 and my heart rate was down in the low 70's.
Real Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 64 here. I have a nifty app on my Bionic that I got for .10 cents that uses the camera and light to get your heartbeat. Its been validated by several physicians and its accurate. Mine has been between 62 and 67 everytime I check it at work. Not to bad. Expecting it to drop over the winter as I hit the gym.
tiger01 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I got 68, getting how many beats in 15 seconds and multiplying it by 4. Not bad for a guy my age.
cal1br3tto Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I just used my hand and got 69 for my ambient rate. Hopefully this means my rate has actually improved to a reasonable number, and I don't just suck at counting. I also did a 30-second test and got 34 (68 in a minute), and counted 11 (66 in a minute) for the 10-second test.
gisco Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 I have improved , it is 64! That is after being up for 6 hours and a few cups of coffee.
Tanks4me05 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Ambient heart rate for me is about 56, BP is 120/78 IIRC (went to the doctor's about a month ago, so they might not be exact, but from what I remember the numbers were essentially perfect.) I guess that and being able to march with a 40 lb. tuba for three hours a night, and being able to run up two dozen flights of stairs in 57 seconds (my favorite place to study at college is on the 12th floor of a pharmacy building; nice and quiet) means that I'm in shape.
cal1br3tto Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I'm sick right now, so I decided to check my blood pressure and ambient heart rate again. My blood pressure is still normal, but my heart rate came out at 96 bpm. But now I don't know if that's because my heart rate has traditionally been very, very bad when I don't exercise, or if it's because I'm sick and slightly distressed about it.
rcjp Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Just measured mine: 58 in a minute. Not bad, it's probably because I'm used to intense exercise 3 times a week and moderate one 2-3 times a week.
gisco Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I'm at about 60bpm. I need to check it when I first get up in the morning instead of mid morning after a few cups of coffee. I'm not to surprised because I'm putting in 8-10 hours on a bike each week and that will increase to 14-16 by the end of May as I train for a Century ride I'm doing on June 2nd.
Randomman295 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I just tested myself for around 75 bpm. Is this bad? I really don't know.
Cyber.Fiber Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Well, I just got 84 (14 Beats per 10 Seconds) I am on a stimulant for ADHD, so I feel as though it increases heart rate... I'll test again tomorrow when I first wake up and the drug is out of my system.
