Attention, "artifact nerds":

I was driving down Mulholland Drive in L.A. today and I noticed a giant "D" in the classic Disneyland font way up in the hills, in front of someone's house. I went home and Googled, and sure enough the "D" appears to have actually been scavenged from a retired Disneyland sign. Supposedly the house belongs to a Disney super-collector.

The letter can be seen from Mulholland and Bowmont. Sorry I didn't take a photo...I was going about 90 mph, as one does on Mulholland Drive. Also, I apologize if this is common knowledge for Disneyland geeks. I just love old park signs and am totally jealous of this guy.

^ Oh, man, I would have loved to see a blurred 90MPH photo! I have heard about this but never seen a photo. Great find regardless!

^ That has always been the rumor that it was Stamos.

That's not a rumor. He paid $30,000 for it on eBay. A news article said it was being relocated "to his ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains," so I think it is safe to say that letter belongs to Uncle Jesse.

If it is "Uncle Jesse," then my long-time crush on him is finally justified!

What Uncle Joey didn't have your blood boiling with his wit and banter?

That's pretty cool! I knew he bought the sign, but I had no idea the "D" was on display in public view.

This "D" Is actually the giant D from the Disneyland Hotel sign. It is owned but Richard Kraft of "Finding Kraftland" fame.

Finding Kraftland was a a quirky independent film of a few years back. It's a documentary about a father and son, their love for Disney, and their adventures around the world. www.findingkraftland.com

MiceAge article that mentions the John Stamos-

" WEISS: Actor John Stamos was the winning eBay bidder for the Disneyland sign on Harbor Boulevard from 1989 to 1999. Did you bid on that sign?

KRAFT: Actually, I bought the other side of the sign!! For about a year they stored it for me at a Disneyland warehouse. Then they needed the space and I had to move it elsewhere. After calculating the cost of moving the sign and storing it indefinitely, I had a rare moment of sanity and decided not to take it. I did get the giant "D" from the Disneyland Hotel instead."

With that giant letter in full view, I'm surprised that no one has vandalized it. I hope there's some sort of fence/alarm/moat near it to keep vandals away.

And if it belongs to John Stamos, why didn't he buy the "s" from the sign?

You know, I knew I saw this a few years ago while living in SoCal! Good find!

Also, is it just me, or does the quote under the park sign on the reference image that Robb posted seem...rather un-Disneylike?

It's a little-known fact that Mickey is a Bob Dylan fan: "Anybody who ain't busy bein' born is busy dyin."
