Photoshop Contest! Design a TPR Twitter Background

Recommended Posts

Guys, this is what the new Twitter will look like. This is a screen shot from my 13" laptop, so probably a good medium ground between a smaller netbook/tablet screen and larger desktop monitors.

You can see any graphic elements you place on the left side are now more than likely going to be covered over by the completely solid left hand content column. There is a slight opacity to the right hand column. The entire content bar stretches to a maximum of 1040 pixels wide, after that the background becomes more prevelent.

That's quite a dramatic change if you ask me. Back to the drawing board (again). Really, it seems like just a real simple background will do...essentially a simple pattern. Doesn't look like any branding can fit without some kind of issues.

Here was my latest version but will be no use with the new Twitter layout.

I'm not an artist, and I never pretend to be, but I have had an idea that I know some of the talented TPR artists could probably do in about 5 minutes!!!

Why not have a black background, then take the TPR logo from the top of the forum pages (including the subtext below it) rotate it so it reads from bottom to top on a screen.

Simple, but I think would looks pretty good and would load quickly.

Just my 2 cents

Davisal: While yours is certainly a lot cleaner than many of the submissions, it looks like a Powerpoint presentation slide from 1998. There's nothing really fun about it, it just looks too generic and bland for TPR.

Matt: Just not the right approach at all. Sorry.

Just glanced over all this.... I'm not sure any of the designs currently are close to the mark...TPR can be tough to design for because of the RGB colors and "fun" look , but I saw a lot of cleaner and integrated designs during the membership card contest. ju5t say1n

@Wes.. Thanks for bringing up the Twitter redesign.. I hadn't even seen it yet

I just don't understand why people aren't getting the style of TPR. We have so many examples out there - the Club TPR publication is full of them, the Club TPR Logos, our DVD covers, trip shirts, etc, etc...

We need something like that.

This contest is for SERIOUS graphic artists that want to make a skin that will represent TPR on our official Twitter page. Not for people who only know MS Paint and crop a bunch of photos in 5 minutes and call that an entry.

This is artwork that will be seen by THOUSANDS of people, ever day. It HAS to be nothing less than GREAT!

I'm sorry, but everything that has been submitted so far won't make the cut. I would request everyone wipe the slate clean and start over again.

I'm going to be upfront: Robb is asking for "serious artists" who use Photoshop. I'm not one. My entry falls squarely under "thrown together in MS Paint". So I'm sorry for wasting time.

But I think this is closer to what would work. I'd love feedback, and if it's good I give everyone permission to take it and run with it. If not, again, sorry for wasting time.

With the new twitter layout, realistically, be background design seems like it's going to be very limited (in my opinion) according to the screenshot that Wes posted. Really, I'd say that just a simple background/texture somewhat representing TPR's colors would be sufficient as it's only an accent to the page. Then again, it's not really my call as to what should be on there as I don't run TPR. Anything fancy is bound to be covered up anyway depending on your monitor's resolution. Looking at the DVD case designs, the T-shirts, and what I can see of the TPR:TM (Not a club member), there's a lot going on. More than what I would use for a background. Using photos would be to busy for what background space there will be by the time the redesign takes over, and ghosted out photos and silhouettes of coasters were originally a 'no-go' so I'm not sure where to go with this one.

This is just a quickie, not sure if the dimensions will go the same as the given templates that were provided. This is what I had in mind to cut the clutter. I'm sure there's a better choice of photos, or perhaps, every month or so can be a different coaster that was a huge highlight for you guys. The sample I attached is based off of Wes's screenshot of the new Twitter layout. Thoughts?

@Angry Gumball.. That is a good proof of concept, but not a "primetime" ready design. I hope this gives some of the other graphic designers ideas on how they can use the second panel.

Also.. I'm just a regular TPR member.. So take my thoughts and criticism with a grain of salt.

^What doesn't hurt any of us graphic artists only makes us stronger.

I'm curious to see now how this will take off. Second thoughts about mine, the Dipper seems to be a little out of place...perhaps just keep it all of the iSpeed coaster. Perhaps a better shot of something that will have more going on below, something that doesn't take so much height for it's composition.
