Invertalon Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Went to GL closing day to get a few end-of-season photos. Park was surprisingly busy for how bad the weather was. I went to GL dozens of times this season to swim with how hot it was, and had a blast every time. I really hope it expands in the future! On to the photos... Enjoy. Welcome to GL Ice Cream shop... Serving Tofts. They have this area closed due to lack of staff, I am guessing. Was open all summer, just not the final two weekends. Lazy River + Liquid Lightning Lots of slides! Raft conveyor Little themed beach area Hey look, Dipper! (R.I.P) Entrance to liquid lightning Lazy River entrance, slight overview. Play Area... Great Fun! Tons of seating. Some LL riders Pipe + H20. Weee I love this part of the ride... Probably the best part. Get some decent air if you hit it right. Sometimes when you hit the mass of water collected at the bottom of the funnel, it can hit hurt sometimes. Lazy River... Now clearing out (as you can see). Tidal Wave Bay. Logo Overview... View from the play area (don't know name) to LL. Sploosh! Sploosh pt. 2! Slides, again. Love the tube ones... The body ones? Not so much. weee This guy made me laugh... I have about six photos in series and his face does not change. At all. Slide. Fail. More lazy river. On the bridge there, you can dump buckets of water on people in the lazy river. Great fun! Final shot down the main midway. Bye bye GL... See you (hopefully) in 2011.

I loved that waterpark, it was my second favorite waterpark next to Water Country USA, but the waterpark alone isnt reason enough to make the 2 hour drive there... I love Cedar Fair's parks but to this day I still truly hate them for closing GL

Invertalon Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 I really hope for some type of expansion for next year, although it is unlikely. The park does well and is always busy. Sometimes, too busy for the size of the place. Expanding to me, makes sense for them. Hopefully, though!

BigDipper 80 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 It isn't that they aren't good water parks, it's just that there is something about them that I just don't like. Kalahari has a lot of "stuff", and it is a lot of fun swimming with snow on the ground, but I guess that I like fresh air just a little bit better. Whatever.
Invertalon Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 I agree ^^ I would prefer to be outdoors always. Nothing like roasting in the sun with a nice fresh breeze, versus feeling like you are in a green house with awkwardly warm air and some sky-windows.
ajc47 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Outdoor swimming season for us is summer only in Ohio. If there's a place you can go in the winter, go for it. Not sure when I'll be able to afford Kalahari again, but it was nice when I went there.

It would be nice to see the park expand in the coming years. More slides would be nice. Might as well open up the 3D theater and the simulator, too. It'd be something unique to the area and be a quick addition to the park since all of the infrastructure is still there (I think...)

It is a shame they scrapped the Phase 2 expansion, but hopefully continue on with it some day since attendance has seemed to do very well. I went close to a dozen times this summer and had a blast each time. It was also consistently busy most every day I went (and weather was good). At times, it seems to small for the crowds they get. Expansion seems to make sense, honestly. I really hope *something* is in the works for next year.

Geauga Dog Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I've read several different TR's on other sites about how busy WWK was this year and it's good to see it seemed to do well. Hopefully CF will get the hint and actually do something next year. There hasn't been anything significant since Tidal Wave Bay in 2006 so it is loooooong overdue for a new slide of some sort. Even when the ride side was open it seemed like there wasn't enough capacity for the crowds it was getting. Oh, Elissa, you can thank Busch for how nice the park looks. CF would never build a water park like WWK.
