PKI Jizzman
Hey TPR! Last year I took my younger brother to Holiday World, so this year I figured I'd take him up to Cedar Point, seeing as he hasn't been there since '07 or so. What a fantastic day! Low crowds, sun all afternoon, great time. I got a tip that Shoot the Rapids might open soon so I though June 1st sounded great. It never opened, but they were testing and cleaning the area all day. Bummer! Oh well.. We got in at 9AM and stayed 'till 8ish. Ride reviews: Raptor - I love this old school B&M. We got two rides on it, front and back. Front seat is fantastic. Great swooping first drop, powerful corkscrews, and staple awesome loop and zero g...with a helix of death to boot! I think it's up there with Afterburn at Carowinds. 10/10 Mantis - One ride in the back row. I'm off and on with this ride...only had a good ride or two. Georgia Scorcher is MUCH better, and so is Vortex at Carowinds in my opinion. I'm ready to get off this ride after the dive loop. Turn it into a B&M sit down! They lock the seats without warning. No fun. 5/10 Mean Streak - Even in the front seat, this ride is rough, dull, and pointless. Texas Giant did it better. I would like a refurb...if they took off the breaks on the first drop (there's two of them) and it was smooth, it'd be fun. 5/10 Gemini - I love this ride. Back seat, non wheel seat...man I love it. Great floaty airtime. The red side was down, so no hand slapping. This is one of Arrow's best works, I think. 7/10 Blue Streak - This 46 year old woodie is awesome. Smooth at Millennium Force! Seems like people always skip it...best woodie in Ohio, I think. 7.5/10 Magnum XL 200 - Rode it in the front row....MAN. What a difference a few weeks makes. The front seat ride had rediculously extremely painful airtime. Those Arrow lap bars flat out SUCK! Do not work on this ride at all. My thighs were killing me for a while after this bad ride. 4/10 Wicked Twister - Rode 2nd row...forgot how forceful the launch was! This is one fun ride, especially how it's placed right on the beach. 7/10 Disaster Transport was closed....again! What the hell! I rode Corkscrew, Mine Ride, and Iron Dragon last visit. Nothing notable. Now....time for the big 3 Intamins. Top Thrill Dragster - Rode it three times, all waits were about 15-20 minutes. Finally got to ride in the front row....everyone needs to try Dragster in the front row! Wow...what an experience. It's incredible being launched that fast, then going straight up, flying out of your seat over the tophat, and then spiraling downhill...something I won't forget. 10/10 Maverick - This ride is just insane. Got to ride three times, twice in the front, once in the back. Happy to say that it's VERY smooth. I'm not a fan of the restraints, though. It's the lap bar that bugs me! You hit the final brake run, and that sucker is just plastered to your thighs. Why not groove it to fit the legs or something? I hadn't remembered it being that bad for a while. Other than that, I love the ride. It's got everything. Crazy first drop, intense airtime hills, twisty inversions, two AMAZING Stengel Dives...fantastic ride. 100/10 Millennium Force - Got four rides, two in the front, two in the back. It seems either Maverick or Millennim steals the show when I go to Cedar Point...and Millennium was running VERY well this year. I was a bit sceptical about waiting to ride in the front seat, but wow...completely different ride. It didn't take away from the first drop, the view is breathtaking, the airtime is a bit better over the hills, and the consistant speed is something that I will never forget. Front seat or nothing! 1000/10 Enjoy the photos! -Zach Raptor was the first ride of the day. Weather was so so. Snow is piling up! Millennium flies up and over the second hill, no airtime to brag about here. But this hill, running back from the island...awesome sustained floating airtime! Everyone having an awesome time Gotta love those Intamin trains Intamin makes you want to take your clothes off? flying out of the first tunnel faster than an I305 fanboy would attack a non-believer Shoot the Rapids was testing for a bit They were bumping the boats into each other on purpose...interesting Pilgrim's Plunge got those black handles added on this year. It looked very nice! It looks like water sprays horizontally at the boats....prepare to get drenched! 310ft. That's VERY high up. Front row, looking over that drop...what a sight. The backseat provides one intense first drop; one of the best! Maverick...another front seat ride in my opinion This might be an Intamin ride as well... One big splash for sure. Aren't the little trains cute? But don't let size fool you, this ride is insane. Height, speed, and grace... Or fast elements, forceful laterals and airtime.. But that first drop is hard to beat! I don't see what Kings Dominion is complaining about. Forgot how great of a headchopper Maverick has, and how powerful LIMs can be! Over the pond.... Hey Andrew! coasterkyle
Amazing Shots like always. I esp. loved the shots of Maverick's gunmetal train. Btw the only thing that I disagree with you is that Maverick is a row 6 unload side ride for me , but each to his own
PKI Jizzman
... Twisty! Stengel Dive part 1. Yeah, this ride packs a punch. If you're not ready for the pull out of the launch, it WILL get you! See row 3. Heading over the 100ft drop at 95* Don't chuck a wheel! Putting your hands up MAY result in bruised shoulders (after 3 rides) Liver? Gertrude got manly and got BUSY! Cedar Point does attempt to make a nice train ride. Red side was broken today. I think this is one of the best rides in the park. Too bad it gets overshadowed. Millennium is quite impressive. Through the 3rd overbank and some crazy headchoppers A smooth, airtime filled fun ride for everyone. Smiles from start to finish! Shirtless at 420ft! Yeah, it was a hot one at that day. PKI Jizzman
more! One awesome way to cool off - 0-120 in 3.8 seconds June or January? You decide! Boy the lake has some weird effects! Probably ate 100 of these things on our front row ride. Hmm something isn't right here..which way is up? This way is down, that's for sure. Open front seat? What a waste! I'm addicted, now. Incredible experience. A few different angles of Mil.F Hard to believe the second hill is 180ft Weeee! Nipples for Intamin!
FeelTheFORCE
Mantis - One ride in the back row. I'm off and on with this ride...only had a good ride or two. Georgia Scorcher is MUCH better, and so is Vortex at Carowinds in my opinion. I'm ready to get off this ride after the dive loop. Turn it into a B&M sit down! They lock the seats without warning. No fun. 5/10 There's your problem, you rode in the back! Mantis is only as good as about "meh" to average in the back, even when trim-less, in my opinion. Next time, I'd suggest a front row ride, or at least no further back than the 3rd or 4th row, as it's a pretty big difference, at least to me. Regarding the seats locking, that's strange. I rode it a good 5-10 times when I was there 2 weeks or so ago, and every single time the ride op said "Seats locking in 3, 2, 1!" and if someone was stuck in a weird position, they would not let the train dispatch and unlock it to fix it. As a matter of fact, I don't recall ever riding it where they didn't say that. Not saying you're wrong, just very strange, as that's very unlike the Mantis crew. Great pictures and awesome TR! I agree about the front row rides on TTD and Millennium. Definite musts at one point in time for CP fans! PKI Jizzman
^I actually think I like it better in the last row! The weird airtime and the transitions are fun. I've been in pretty much every other row before, I love the layout, the location...but not the standing up part. Too big of a coaster for it in my opinion. Which is why I like Scorcher more...it's like a mini Mantis...and it works! And even has crazier laterals and twists. As for the crew...seemed like they were in a rush. One lock, couldn't even hear them half the time. Only one person with their hands up? Boo! You've got me turning up and turning down. And turning in and turning 'round. I'm turning Japanese I think I'm turning Japanese I really think so Underside of the train Looks like the snow is picking up! Heading back down to ground level It's not thaaat bad Green means go! Arms down, head back, and hold on! Oh face! See you on the other side These things slow you down. Scccrrrrrttttt Now that's scary. Best 17 seconds ever. I love sky rides. Yup, crowds were looowww. Until next time, Dragster. Isn't it weird this thing is TEN years old now? I like everything here. No, I don't use photoshop. It's all the sun's credit. Interesting, eh? Mess of B&M track. 1994. The lake looked VERY pretty today. My favorite shot of the day. What a beautiful setting Raptor is a fantastic ride. Very impressive structure. Mr. Seagull likes it twisty. There is some nice landscaping here Hey Erik A! Demon Drop's area is now a flower bed and Seagull exhibit.

deano
Hey PKI MAN, thanks for the photos, lots of pics of my favourite ride MF, glad you had a good time and the crowds were low. Love the blue sky with the snow flakes, considering i've never seen snow in my life, its hard to believe that CP gets covered in it for months at a time. You've made me realise just how much I miss the USA and its awesome theme parks. Deano

A-kid
Some fantastic pictures there! I love the Corkscrew/Iron Dragon angled shot and the tight 'n' twisty Raptor shot in particular. Also the close ups really capture the fun of the rides. Great stuff!! I always find it funny that the seagulls crap all over Raptor and hide in the track, haha. CoasterPrince
Gemini isn't as fun with just one side running. Still one of Cedar Point's hidden gems however. You got quite a zoom with that camera.

I've got to get back to Australia..Superman Escape was down while I was there! And I miss Scooby Doo's Spooky Coaster and Giant Drop. Thanks for the comments everyone! willh51
Wonderful pictures! I'm glad you also love Maverick since it's kind of polarizing. It's definitely my favorite ride there and tied for my #1 with Superman/Bizarro in Mass. I might have to go back this summer since it's been two years. It looks like a few things could use paint jobs (i.e. Millie and Raptor); I guess the park's location is pretty rough on the paint though.
bgwfreak777
I see the Raptor paint crew was doing their inspections. And yeah those fuzzies drove my alergies crazy in 1999 when I first went to the park. Now I'm Claratin clear!

CPmaverick
^^Actually it's not a bad paint job, it's Seagull poop. For some reason Raptor is a poop magnet (never thought I would say that).

triggernel
Geez, I thought I was the only one who hated getting stacked on Maverick. Those restraints are killer on the thighs. Still my favorite ride at the Point, but I agree with getting some thigh shaped lap bars.

One time I overheard someone at CP that thought they were repainting Raptor white. They could not figure out why the paint was so scattered. Still my favorite ride at the Point, but I agree with getting some thigh shaped lap bars. It's weird how 305's didn't feel that way to me, like they did on Maverick. They look the same, but maybe there are some differences.

sros1fan
Look at the pics of Maverick how many people have the arms up? Also look at their faces it doesnt look as if anyone is enjoying the ride, just bracing themselves. How can you enjoy that ride with those POS OTSRs on them? IMO it is the most overrated coaster at the point! I will be there on the 23rd and 24th and i could care less if i ride it or not. I rode it 2 times the year it open and my shoulders were so bruised from the restraints. My favorite coasters at the point are Raptor, TTD and Wildcat! CPmaverick
^I see what you are saying but I have yet to hear someone from the GP complain about the restraints or anything else with Maverick besides it being "uber scary", and the line is too long (I do that occasionally). FeelTheFORCE
(Btw: Raptor REALLY needs a paint job) Not really, just needs cleaned. If you want to talk needing paint, look at MF and TTD. T&T themselves even admitted that MF needed a paint job, but right now it would probably just be too expensive and not practical.
Robbie
On Maverick I dont pull the restraint down all the way, then I stay on the tip of my toes till they check it and then I relax. Usually results in not getting a staple. Also, I love Maverick, but it isn't a hands up coaster because of the OTSRs It is a crazy ride though.
