Top Thrill Dragster Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 There will be a new Mens Hockey Gold Medal winner this Olympics. Sweden just lost to Slovakia 4-3
ParkTrips Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Boo yah! United States: 7-9-12-28 Germany: 7-10-7-24 Norway: 6-6-6-18 Canada: 7-6-2-15 Â So much for owning the podium...
Sir Clinksalot Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 So what does everybody think about the South Korea speed skating team getting their gold taken away? Â IMO, part of speed skating is the bumping, there was no malicious intent and that shouldn't have happened. Â And then the US team, who got their asses kicked had the gall to get their flag and start parading around. IMO, they had NOTHING to celebrate. It's like they weren't even in the same race.
SharkTums Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 ^Especially since they seem to let the men get away with more bumping than that. Â I hate subjective sports like that...that's why there's so much drama in Ice Skating etc. If there isn't a clear defined winner, there's always going to be drama!
Meteornotes Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I was watching that last night, and SK was totally ripped off. There was barely a bump. Â And even if SK was going to be disqualified, the US should NOT have been given a medal, just because of how far back they were in the race. Their celebration when they suddenly got the bronze was really annoying. Â dt
Sir Clinksalot Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I would have been relatively OK with them giving the Chinese the Gold and the SK's the Silver ... but to DQ them entirely??? Â And yeah, annoying is the word for the US team. They had absolutely NOTHING to celebrate.
ParkTrips Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 yeah that was definitely incidental contact. All those skaters in a really tight corner, and stuff like this happens
ginzo Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Actually, there is hilarious irony in this because one of the South Korean skaters said to the press that Apolo Ohno didn't deserve the first silver medal he won because he was bumping. Â I'm kind of Olympic'd out. If I see one more "World's Greatest Spokesperson In The World" commercial, I might lose it.
SharkTums Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 ^If I see that horrible woman do one more story on Polar Bears or Blind Sled Dogs I'm going to go insane.
ginzo Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 ^Yeah, she sucks. If you took out all the crap, the Olympics would be like 1 hour each night. But somehow NBC has ballooned it out to 4.
ParkTrips Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 they may have won gold, but on the hottness scale, I have it scored like this  Finnish woman's hockey team > US woman's hockey team > Canadian woman's hockey team  Way to out-dyke the world, Canada
chemical_echo Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Apparently a Russian columnist can't handle Canada beat his team in men's hockey: Low blow from Russian media in wake of Olympic woes  According to Maxim, Finland has the highest proportion of natural blondes of any country, yet I didn't see much on their team. There were a few cute ones and I think one I actually thought was hot. Other than that, meh.
Ed Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Russia are just incredibly bitter about the fact that they lost the figure skating gold even though Lysacek pulled off a flawless performance and Plushenko did the quad jump, poorly, and then struggled with the rest of his routine. Â I hope they get utterly shown up on 2014.
ginzo Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 ^Yeah, that's a pretty weak argument that the Ruskies have. That Plushenko should win because he did one jump. Sure he should get more points for pulling off the most difficult jump in figure skating, but then there's the other 4+ minutes of routine to score. Â Lysacek just looked damn good and Plushenko looked less good. Deal with it.
austinlee Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 ^^^^^ I can't stand her either. Whenever one of her stories come on I change the channel for a few minutes. Â On the hotness scale, I vote for Tanith Belbin.
Skycoastin Steve Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I would have been relatively OK with them giving the Chinese the Gold and the SK's the Silver ... but to DQ them entirely??? Â And yeah, annoying is the word for the US team. They had absolutely NOTHING to celebrate. Â I respectfully disagree. They were still good enough to finish 4th in the world, regardless of how far they finished behind in the final race. That alone is cause for celebration, but do you really expect them not to be happy that they won a medal? Regardless of how they got it, there are DQs in every event. Do you think the guy who won the gold because the Dutch skater finished in the wrong lane should have been any less happy about his gold? Had the athletes disqualified been playing by the rules (petty violation or not), they would have won their medal. The US team (or any other athletes awarded medals via DQs) shouldn't feel guilty about winning a medal, especially if they followed the rules and stayed within the parameters of the competition. Â That's just my opinion. I know if I were an Olympian, I would be overjoyed with whatever medal I got, no matter how I got it. And I wouldn't feel ashamed to fly my country's colors when I won it.
Sir Clinksalot Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 ^ I don't expect them NOT to celebrate, but they way they did it was excessive. Â Did you see them while the judge was looking at the tape? They were standing by the coaches pawing to get the flag just waiting to be handed (yes handed) the bronze rather than actually winning it.
chemical_echo Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 The US men's hockey team better get ready to have their butts handed to them on a SILVER platter this Sunday
slither37 Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 ^ Like the last US/Canada game? Â ^^^The video is AWESOME. Curling would be a lot better with metal blasting in the arena...
chemical_echo Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Canada made some mistakes last game, but they're not going to make them twice.
dandaman Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 ^I don't know... as much as we want the gold (and vengeance for Monday's game), Canada made some pretty costly mistakes last night towards the end that could have very well ended in an overtime loss.
SharkTums Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 Are the Olympics still going on!!?!
