PhishyBrewer
Tried something new today. With American Flatbread... it's even better. It's a good match. IT'S GOOD!!! The bottle looked like a flask so I didn't bother with a glass. Today I'm trying St Peter's English Ale
mr_teisco_delrey
I was able to enjoy my Goose Island Pub Pack. I had two of the IPAs, two Honkers, one Oatmeal Stout, and One Nut Brown Ale. All were great. DerekRx - I noticed in a post that you mentioned the Southeren Tier having a heavy alcohol taste. How cold was the beer when it was served ? I noticed that the IPAs I was drinking had an alcoholish taste. When I let them warm up a bit, the taste went away, and the hops came through. CoasterFanatic
Hopefully you had that laying around from last year. They changed the label for this years edition. I echo the comments on Bell's Two Hearted. Quite the excellent brew. My Thanksgiving run down (sorry no photos). Fri Nov 24 - Fatheads (Pittsburgh, PA) Magic Hat Number 9 - Draft Rogue Santa's Private Reserve - Draft Southern Tier Un-Earthy IPA - Draft Sat Nov 25 - Sharp Edge Creekhouse (Crafton, PA) Delerium Noel - Draft Anderson Valley Winter Solstice - Draft KO Blonde - 22oz Bottle Troeggs Mad Elf - 12oz Bottle Other than prefering the Winter Solstice in the bottle, all good brews. Rugged One
^ Your'e killing me Ted! Can't wait to get back to the Burgh and it's wonderful beer bars. By the way, that Mad Elf was from a stash from the back of my beer fridge. One of these nights, I'll do a comparison between this years and lasts to see if I notice a difference. They supposedly tweak it each year. Tonights selection is one I've really been looking forward to trying (and a style that I'm really growing fond of), the Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout. Mmmm. Nice but not overpowering aroma and taste of coffee to this one, although it was slightly bitter. Very smooth and drinkable even though it had a little more alcohol on the end than I would have liked. That doesn't detract though from what is a very
DerekRx
^Looking forward to trying my batch, even though I'm not a big fan of stouts or coffee! I'll wait a bit longer though, still working thru some old stuff before it really gets bad. Its kinda like that orbitz soda from back in the 1990s, only this time its hoppy and citrusy One of my last few Indica's. I had more of these than I thought! Check out that unfiltered goodness Its still got its beerness to it I've had it before, I'll have it again. #9 is still really tasty for a lighter fruit-filled pale alish sort

USRoadTripper
Its kinda like that orbitz soda from back in the 1990s, only this time its hoppy and citrusy Dude, I was just thinking about that tonight when I watched Rachel Ray drink a drink with pine nuts floating in it. Orbitz was da bomb. It was like food and drink at the same time! -Julie
DerekRx
Tonight I gave a final farewell to the last of a favorite for now to make some room for new stuff just recently purchased. Followed that up with actually enjoying one of the newer brews I just got, and it was well worth the purchase! What an excellent winter ale. Chocolate, malt, nuts, spices, and hops all are present. yum! But its time to make room for the new, like the Hibernation Ale by Great Divide I shall miss you old friend, until I next encounter a case of you in date! Ah, the old Thunderhead, still my #2 IPA. And the last one too
Rugged One
^ I'm glad to see that we picked up a winner this weekend. Started to get into some of the Southern Tier stuff this week that Derek had passed on to me. I don't believe he thought too much of them but let's see what I think. First up, Phin and Matt's Extraordinary Ale, a pale ale. This one was pretty, meh. Slightly hoppy. Pretty light and watery. The finish just kinda peters out. Gonna have to give this one a thumb in the middle.
PhishyBrewer
Getting excited about my upcoming trip to Cleveland. So I've just been drinking Dortmunder.
Rugged One
Started checking out some of the Wild Goose beers (brewed not too far away in Frederick, MD) from a mix case that myself and my fellow BACTers split. Tonight, it's their Oatmeal Stout. Yum, this was a really well done sweet stout! Roasty chocolate and coffee accents to this one, with the chocolate especially standing out. DerekRx
Tonight I started out with a Sam Adams when I went out for dinner (they had no microbrews there, but the cold water lobster and the filet mignon was excellently worth it!) Followed it up back home with another favorite. Tomorrow I'll switch it up a bit. And you still taste hoptastic! Never a let down with you Hello faithful HopDevil. You're looking quite fine on this Wally Wednesday!

DerekRx
Originally tonight was going to be the start of "Winterfest" for me, but seeing how it was in the 70s today, I decided it wasn't very appropriate. Instead I just grabbed any nonWinter I could find! Definitely among my favorite American brewed Oktoberfests. Followed that up with a Festbier, gotta get rid of the Oktoberfests while its still November As usual, the warmer it got, the more the hops came out. Easy to drink, yet slightly dangerous! So good I quickly refilled the glass! I cracked it opened on my tummy. Some nice hops and a bit of an alcohol finish. Good stuff First up, a bomber of Otter Creek 15th Anniversary IPA
Rugged One
^ Heh man, it's Otter Creek, not Sea Otter Creek! Being the last day of November, means the last day of Fall as far as I'm concerned. Although with near 70 degree weather today, it's makes me wonder. Anyway, I decided to say goodbye tonight with my last Fall beer. The Weyerbacher Autumn Fest Ale. Starting tomorrow night. The Twelve Beers of Christmas. My final Oktoberfest and it's not a bad one. A little watery but still nice and sweet and malty. A good way to end the season. Rugged One
Well, it's the beginning of December and the Christmas Holiday Season. Time for this year's edition of the Twelve Beers of Christmas. I'm going to do it a little different than last years. Instead of banging them out over about a week, I'm going to start tonight and profile a few a week up until Christmas Eve on Dec. 24th. I'm also going to try to stick to beers with a "Holiday Theme" of some kind but I'm sure I'll mix in the some of the usual holiday ales/winter warmers throughout the month as well. With that I bring you the First Beer of Christmas.. We'll start things out with the Rogue Santa's Private Reserve, a nicely hopped and spicey amber ale. I really liked this one last season and it didn't disappoint this year either. A nice start!
Akbar42
I had 2 wonderful Great Lakes Christmas Ales at a bar on my way home while discussing why they still had Bell's Oberon on tap with the bartender. I came home and continued the holiday theme. There certainly is a lot to celebrate with this beer.
mcjaco
^ They stopped distributing Bell's here in Chicago. Tis a shame, Oberon was a great beer. Last night was our company Holiday party at the Leg Room. I drank way too many Coronas (which were fruited - broke a Man Law). And finished the night with a Fat Tire at Butch McGuire's. After that, I pulled a Derek at Oktoberfest, and have no recollection of what I did. Free beer = trouble for me.
Akbar42
^I enjoy a good Oberon as much as the next guy (I went to college on the west side of the state, and Oberon day was almost an official holiday), the problem I had with this bar was they were still running a summer varietal n December, and the bartender had no idea when it was tapped. Oberon can be a yeasty little bitch when it is fresh and does not age well. I tend to think that is what specials are for, to clear this stuff out. Unfortunately they only have 5 taps and Oberon is being replaced by a special winter budweiser beer. it is going to be a long winter
mr_teisco_delrey
^ ^ McGuire's, oh the stories I could tell you young weedhoppers. I guess those stories will have to be told some other time. As for me, I finished off my Thanksgiving Goose Island Pub Pack. Tonight was a great Stout. I'll definately go for that in the future. Good brew! DerekRx
Lots of crazy drinking again this weekend with the BACT gathering at Hershey. First up, Friday. And Janna tapped into some of the Lagers Still my 2nd favorite IPA But it was getting late so we decided to finish off the night with one more. Stone IPA for me A few hours later Dave and Janna showed up and enjoyed some brews too I don't believe Stone brews a bad beer But the surprise was Ellen, who really liked it He definitely dug it Next up I broke out the Stone 10th IPA for Adam to try I started the evening with a Bell's Two Hearted while Adam had a HopDevil and Ellen had a Purple Haze Ellen just chilled while we waited for the beer to chill too As soon as we arrived at our suite, Adam and I took care of the important stuff, filling the fridge
DerekRx
Saturday started out at Appalachian Brewing's main headquarters in Harrisburg, about 20 minutes from Hershey. Good beers with good friends is good times But again we drank a little too much and were a little too tired, so we ended the night with dessert beer Next was some Rogue's Santa's Private Reserve. Nice and hoppy with nice spices Still a big hit! Next up, Ommegang's Red Bach, the hit of the Beerfest Adam and Dave watch some footage of us at Oktoberfest while enjoying the Anchor Christmas Glad I didn't have to drink all this by myself! With Christmas on the brain, its time to break out my giant bottle of Anchor Very good winter brew with nice cherry hints After an Alpha King I tried the Winter Solstice from Anderson Valley After CCL its time to warm up. Even Kim can handle a few Dreamweavers But I can still pull Heath away for more beer. Now the Elfenator and Mad Weaver The men get a little too excited over the new merchandise Meanwhile, the Adamenator was very horny Heath had troubles deciding on the growler for $7 or the giant bottle for $60 I enjoyed some free samples of Dreamweaver while Dave went with the Mad Elf 3 minutes away we made it to Troegs Everyone was having fun, but we had places to go and beers to drink Grinnin' Grizzly Adam drinks a Grinnin' Grizzly Even Dave managed to finally come out, and enjoyed their amber, the Grinnin' Grizzly With dinner I went with a Hoppy Trails IPA. Very citrusy with a hoppy aroma A very nice beer with some maltiness, hops, and spices First up for me (and almost everyone else) the December brew, Volks Weizenbock Heath was there to welcome us to beer
Meteornotes
^Stupid PA and the dumbass beer purchasing laws. I would have totally bought a six pack of that Mad Elf, but noooooo, that won't be possible in PA. Bah! Fun day. Thanks for inviting me out. I'll have to take Mary to that ABC place the next time we drive through Harrisburg. dt
