Homer Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 So yeah, its the last day of summer, tomorrow school starts. So what better to do than to go to Busch Gardens? Well, I was expecting crowds, but on Sundays, the crowds didnt come until lunchtime. I decided to head back to Timbuktu first, I felt acting like a credit whore and going on Cheetah Chase for the first time since Howl-O-Scream. So, yep, I was the only one in the station for the ride and got a train to myself. I was going to take a POV, but didn't. The ride was a little bit more intense than back in 2004, heck, I felt G's on this thing now but not as intense. Before, it was overtrimmed, now it only trims after the first hairpin drop. Cheetah Chase: 7/10 After the credit whoring-like attitude of Cheetah Chase, I decided to head over to everybody's favorite B&M, Kumba. Wait, none, the ride? Still smooth and runs great, no trims and loads of positive G's. I love this ride, but Busch, give it some love and repaint it, its starting to look like Batman: The Escape at Astroworld before it got a new paint job. Kumba: 9.5/10 After riding Kumba, I was going to head over to Congo River Rapids, but that path was blocked off. I dunno why, I was going to say a 500 foot tall inverted launch coaster with 20 inversions by B&M was under construction for 2007. So I headed over to everybody's favorite pop singer coaster, ShaKira, err, SheiKra. The ride didnt feel as intense as before on the holding brake. All of the people keep saying thats the scariest part, I don't get it, I'm more like "Just drop already...". After that, the Immelman didn't feel as airtime giving as before but the second drop gave the airtime I craved. After that, SheiKra was just as intense as the drive to the park. It disappointed me today for a 45 minute wait. SheiKra: 7.5/10 After good ol ShaKira, I headed over to Montu. It was running two trains and had a 15 minute wait. Still the same old Montu, with a kick ass first half and the dumbest midcourse in existance thats overtrimmed. Montu: 8/10 I then decided to head over to Bird Gardens to have lunch at every adults favorite place at the park, the Hospitality House. I had a slice of pizza there that had little sauce and way too much cheese. It began raining and I decided to run over to (gulp) Gwazi. On the way to Gwazi, I decided to take a picture of the new X-men themed gift shop restroom thingy and then ride the dreaded "dueling" wooden coaster that would give me a migrane. I rode Gwazi Lion and hell, it sucked. Though I did see Busch added some new wood to the supports and the bottom of the first drop, it still felt like the same, mediocre, and rough wooden coaster. When the train finally stopped at the brakes, my head hurt badly from being rattled around so many times. Losing brain cells at the beginning of the year? Not good. Oh, and did I mention that sometimes Gwazi was DUELING. Yeah, I think the ride ops there finally learned to push the dispatch buttons at the same time. Gwazi Lion: 7.5/10 And that ended my day at the park. Pictures will come up in a few minutes. These people don't know what they are in for, a crappy wooden coaster. OMFG, The X-Men are at the park! SheiKra, I caught this picture mostly for the funny look of how idiotic the GP look every time a train dispatches. Kumba; intense, and this would have been a good shot if there was no palm tree in the way... Cheetah Chase; running with less trims on makes it an intense family coaster. Mmmm... Montu Goodness...
coasterlover420 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 So yeah, its the last day of summer, tomorrow school starts. So what better to do than to go to Busch Gardens? Ha Ha! I don't go to school for another week!
JT3000 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 BG stands for Busch Gardens. It can also stand for Burn Gwazi. Coincidence?
coasterlover420 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 BG stands for Busch Gardens. It can also stand for Burn Gwazi. Coincidence? Ha Ha!
TheStig Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Homer, I though you would have learned by now that Gwazi sucks some serious ass! Yeah I noticed the fresh pieces of wood on Gwazi, and a stockpile of it next to the little maintence area under the transfer track/block break area. So where the crowds very heavy? On Thursday it was EMPTY, everthing that wasn't a Latan pop star had a walk on. Glad you had fun, and yeah school is going to suck tomorrow. Colin C
AllisonY2K Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 pure blasphemy. glad you had a fun time tho. have fun in school tomorrow! *snicker* ~Allison "GwaziFanatic" Y2K~
Homer Posted August 7, 2005 Author Posted August 7, 2005 Oh well, at least Im not in Pinellas or Pasco county... -Carl "They had to go back on the 3rd! Now thats insanity!" F.
PhishyBrewer Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 I like Gwazi! Why does eveyone dis this ride?
SharkTums Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 ^Because it nearly shakes you apart!!!! Glad you had fun, this reminds me I need to call my brother and make fun of him for having to go to school tomorrow!
PhishyBrewer Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 ^Because it nearly shakes you apart!!!! I rode it the first year it opened. I guess it's different. I guess
Homer Posted August 7, 2005 Author Posted August 7, 2005 ^A LOT different... Though I dont find it rough, it shakes you up too much and gives you a worser headache than Python would give you.
Nitro X 230 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 I only had a problem with Gwazi in the front. When I sit in the middle, the ride is great. I really like Gwazi, and I don't understand why people have such a problem with it.
pianojohn Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 How about this: get the guys who built Gwazi to re-track it, add some Millenium Flyer cars, and VOILA! A top ten ride! I can dream, can't I?
TheStig Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Yeah Gwazi has been pretty bad for about 3 years now. I mean, it has an awsome layout, but its just so rough and can be quite painful, plus the fact it duel's once in a Millennium is another reason why its crappy. Colin C
AllisonY2K Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 yeah that's a shame. the dueling days were great.
memphish Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 I was there today, Gwazi wasn't horrible. Some bumping but nothing bad. I just got back, so I'm about to crack a brew, boke a smowl, and upload some pics. Oh yeah Sheikra was great.
Erik Johnson Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Well, compared to the wooden coasters The Hurler (Carowinds), Cyclone (SFOG), and GASM (SFOG). The Gwazi feels like a steel coaster. I guess I am one in the minority who has fun on the Gwazi, I don't think its too rough...especially when compared to the other wooden coasters we rode last week. Montu is also my favorite coaster in Florida, I think the second half is great as well (the hidden elements is a nifty idea). Though Top Gun at Carowinds does have the better batwing. Thanks for the cool Photo TR...even though some of the comments borders on blasphemy (jk!) . Oh yeah, we also liked the Cheetah Chase....the first half was much more intense than expected...I really thought we were going to fall off the track...heh.
