^^I totally agree with you about the location thing. I never understood how Rio has survived all these years. When I go to Vegas I don't leave the strip if at all possible.

Free shuttles from Bally's/Paris

and there are free shuttles from the corner across the street to the Orleans.

I expect IP/Circus Circus/etc to be dumps - I thought Hard Rock would be pretty cool, and I did not like the vibe much at all. Just because it's not the worst doesn't mean it can't still be a disappointment!

but it IS across the street from KISS Monster Mini Golf!

and that rocks

(and the Draughthaus restaurant, where we had some amazing German food)

Will post some photos later, but last week I was able to stay in a Wraparound Terrace Suite at the Cosmopolitan. Have to say that it was by far the best standard product in Vegas. Can't beat the views, and the suite itself was also very nice for the price (originally intended to be a condo).

I have seen a few photo tours of the wraparound and it looks like a good room for the price. How was the customer service/experience with staff? I've been recently and just have not had a pleasurable experience =/

Partially correct. The RIO survives because it has a huge convention area attached to the hotel.

they still have it.

but both of their buffets have been overshadowed (at least in this foodies eyes).

the Carnival World Buffet at Rio was once our favorite, but a couple of years ago we discovered the much better buffet at the "M" still on Las Vegas Blvd, but off strip (about 2 miles up from Mandalay Bay).

then this past trip we discovered Wicked Fork (I think that is what it's called) at Cosmopolitan. We ate there a couple of times, and tho we did go to Rio for gaming, we did not eat at the buffet.

as to the Seafood, which still has a great reputation, the Golden Nugget has a much better Seafood buffet on the weekends (Friday/Saturday).

makes sense, after all, Golden Nugget *is* owned by Landry's (of the Seafood restaurant chains) these days.

absolutely spectacular buffet, and worth the trip down to Freemont Street just for this buffet.

I have never even bothered going near Imperial Palace. Like gisco said, it always seemed like a dump. Why waste my time when there are so much nicer of places to check out?

I might check out The Quad when it's all done, just to see how it turned out and ride the Ferris Wheel. Caesars needs some better properties, MGM offers much better options IMO. Caesars only has Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, and Paris that interest me; the rest are just run down and old.

^ I just like the $5 blackjack switch.

The Quad really needs room remodels. Last time I stayed was about 6 months ago; only one elevator was working for our tower, the carpet was wrinkled and stained. If I owned the hotel, I would be embarrassed to have such low quality in my name. I know the rates are $25/night, but Phil Ruffin could make Quad look like Aria.

Phil Ruffin has turned Treasure Island into a low roller joint. He'd fit right in as the owner of "The Quad".

Aside from the "Go" and "fab" rooms at the Flamingo, all the Caesars properties on that block of the Strip are complete crap (Flamingo, Harrahs, The Quad). Before the economy tanked, they had plans to use that block as their answer to City Center---I suspect "The Linq" and "The Quad" is the first phase of what will ultimately be a larger renovation.

I think they are just starting small with converting Bill's Gambling Hall into a Drai's boutique hotel before jumping into a larger project. Caesars as it is now could really use more "mid tier" properties. Planet Hollywood is really all they have to compete against MGM's line up of mostly mid tier properties.

yah. . we have started gambling more and more at TI, since the ownership change.

(and we are what you would refer to as Mid-Level gamers).

we *hate* with an absolute passion the Tropicana refurb.. we weren't comfortable there at all (too much marble and leather!) and for the first time ever, we didn't gamble there on our last trip.

We always stay at Flamingo (sometimes in Go room, sometimes not), simply because of the hotel history, and the location on the strip. Tho this upcoming trip for NASCAR weekend in March, we're gonna go "cheap" and likely stay at Circus Circus

agreed on that.

we were shocked to see so much of the "lagoon" gone, and a giant Gilley's there

but I guess with Frontier (long) gone, the club had been looking for another Strip location.

and to note, since we always stay at Flamingo, we simply cross the street to Mirage, cut thru the casino, and simply take the shuttle car from Mirage to TI, and come in thru the back. So that doesnt' really even register to us, since we rarely come in past the Gilley's/Senor Frog. . . .so I guess that's why we don't consider it a low class joint.

and we honestly do enjoy gambling there (and we win there too).

While certainly ruining the theme (MGM did that long ago anyways at all their properties), at least Diablos is a decent place to eat and drink. Gilley's and Senor Frogs are just too much. The fugly bright green paint of Senor Frogs on the lagoon is just tacky.

This new planned stadium for UNLV is quite impressive with a price tag of about $800 million and will feature a 100-yd jumbotron, two night clubs, and six 300-seat VIP suites and 50 conventional suites. The city hopes the new stadium will attract big events like MLS, NFL games, fights, college bowl games, and concerts and music festivals.

Looks really amazing, but personally don't think it's a great idea. IT's too big for MLS, for the college football games, fights, etc. A possible NFL team would work for that stadium, but I don't see the market supporting an NFL team. But what do I know.
