Woogle Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Just noticed something else on the calendar. When you visit a link and go back on the browser the link text that you just visited changes to a very dull blue which is a bit hard to read against the grey background. When you click on another link the blue text changes back to white again though. Calendar view with link to Pooping Competition
Hhappy Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 ^ nice find. Should be an easy fix and i'll try to do that later today.
nannerdw Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I'm not sure if anyone brought this up, but the forum space needs a border.
Hhappy Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 ^a printscreen to clarify what you are saying would be usefull
ckpoodge Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I don't know how to do a screen shot, so I just printed the error I received as a PDF. I copied & pasted the error here.  It was not possible to convert your password when updating this bulletin board’s software. Please request a new password. If you continue to have problems please contact the Board Administrator.  The error was very hard to read because it was all in red on the screen against a gray background.  Hope this helps!
Moose Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Seeing my birthday in the wrong month in the screencap above, i decided to look at the birthday input in the new forum. Sure enough, I switched the month and the day. In the current forum, the months are listed (ie Jan Feb...) rather than the number. Is this possible with the new forum?
Hhappy Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Just noticed something else on the calendar. When you visit a link and go back on the browser the link text that you just visited changes to a very dull blue which is a bit hard to read against the grey background. When you click on another link the blue text changes back to white again though. Â color has been fixed. Â Regarding month name instead of number.. i'll do some searching.. but i'm not sure yet on how to change that.. Â The current info should be copied to the new installation, so no worries there.
Hhappy Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 So, the one on the left is the current forum, and the one on the right is the new one.  The new one doesn't have a white boarder, so big blocks of colour are right next to each other. Also the blue section is now a block, where as the current blue is slightly shaded, being darker at the top and lighter at the bottom.  Thats more or less what i mean. Gotcha. We could try to work in the gradient, but probably not the white bar. It never even stood out to me as a problem.  Do other people agree that this is a big issue or is it just a minor nitpick that most people wouldn't notice?  Hanno, how hard would this be to change?  --Robb  sorry for the delay in this. I've added the gradient from the current board to the new installation. Let me know if you like it.
RCFreak Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 It doesn't show up on the main page of forums save for the announcement box and the calendar, but it does in all the sub forums and I think it looks great!
Hhappy Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Here's what i'm seeing.. Â ^might be a case of refreshing your history, cookies etc
RCFreak Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 ^That's exactly what I'm seeing, now click into any of the forums and you can see the difference. These are both the new forum, the one on the right is the main page, the one on the left is a sub-forum ("Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!" in this case)
WillMontu Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I found another minor cosmetic glitch in the calendar. Â In addition, for video attachments, the video comment does not show, while it does for images and other attachments. Is this intentional? For a day with no events, the message appears as yellow text on light background Calendar day view - white text on light background. I have highlighted the text in the third cell in order to read it
Hhappy Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 ^ what kind of video are you talking about? (link to the post you made?) Â ^^Regarding the color.. the gradient is there it's just that it's the other way around (dark to light instead of light to dark and therefore less obvious.. we could turn it around... no problem in that..
robbalvey Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 Hey everyone! Â We are really close to launching the new forum, but I still feel we haven't done enough testing with some areas of it. For example, could everyone try to do things like: Â - Register a new screen name - Use the search function - Go into the chat room - Browse and modify your user profile settings - Add calendar events and browse them in day, month, and week view - Use the forum statistics - Send a private message (send one to me!) - Send an email to someone (send one to me!) - Attach different types of files (photos, videos, zip files, mp3 files, documents, etc) Â We need as much help as we can testing before this can go live. Â Thank you all for your help! Â --Robb
Hhappy Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 ^That's exactly what I'm seeing, now click into any of the forums and you can see the difference. Â changed the colors a little so that they are the same everywhere. Let me know if this is better. Â Thanks.
Hhappy Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I found another minor cosmetic glitch in the calendar. Â fixed the color for that display. Â Also added the comment info to video files.
robbalvey Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 One thing I should have been more clear about - The search index hasn't been built entirely yet. We are more looking for php errors or something that didn't look correct. We know that not many items will come up because rebuilding the search index takes hours and it puts a lot of stress on the server. So we figured we'll only re-build it cpmpletely once we're ready to go live. Â Search should still work, but it won't produce as many results as the current forum. Â --Robb
RCFreak Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 The colors look great now, very much like the old forum and I think the needed pop it was lacking before. Â Um is chat still working for everyone else? I tried in Opera Firefox and IE8, but it doesn't want to work for me. Â I've changed the stuff in my profile before and it all worked out great. Â I liked the expanded search feature when sending a PM and needing to look up a user name and being able to search many different ways, I also like that if you've friended someone, they can easily be added as they are listed on the right with a button to add them. I didn't notice any issues right off the bat though.
Hhappy Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 ^ sorry about the chat, looks like it died on me.. should be working at the moment and i'll take a closer look at the smilies in there later this week..
WillMontu Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Some observations in the new chat room -The image function is nice and works well, but it looks easy to abuse -If I go into Settings, there is an option for sounds. I try to preview them, but none of them appear to be working. I am using Firefox 3.5.7
Hhappy Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Some observations in the new chat room -If I go into Settings, there is an option for sounds. I try to preview them, but none of them appear to be working. I am using Firefox 3.5.7  Sound is most likely something on your end. Works for me here. Make sure your flash installation is up to date and you did not disable sound in chat..
WillMontu Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I use FlashBlock (a plug-in that prevents Flash applets from automatically playing until I click on them), and didn't see any indication of Flash being used, which probably explains the problem. If I disable it, the sounds work   Also, if you look at http://www.themeparkreview.com/ilikefish/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=53794&start=10 the footer has the gray background, when it probably shouldn't in Firefox and Chrome. I'm suspecting that the embedded videos might be causing it.
Hhappy Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 ^ this gray background is caused by something else. Â I'm looking into getting that fixed.. but it's not video/photo related at all. Â so no worries there.
