larrygator Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 So a couple of months ago I realized I needed and corkboard I got an idea to make a corkboard out of used corks. So we the past 3 months I've been collecting corks from friends and family and decided to construct the corkboard on Saturday. Finished product! Now I need to buy some push pins. 42 corks in place, the glue is set and I'm trimming the container edges to the proper size. I laid out the corks and numbered each cork. Here are some of the corks laid out in the proper order. I needed something that I knew would adhere to cork and wood. If I do this again I'll use something that doesn't expand so much as it ruined the aesthetic. This is the container that will serve as a border for the corkboard. There look to be enough corks to make this happen.
ParkTrips Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I'm totally stealing this idea! Thanks Larry
Meteornotes Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I'm actually collecting the corks to make one now. Using only ones from bottles of wine I drink, so it might take awhile... Â dt
SharkTums Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I think the glue just adds a sort of 'rustic appeal' to the board! Â Can't wait to see what's next in "Arts & Crafts with Larry"!
Sir Clinksalot Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 That's a really awesome idea. We're always wondering what to do with the corks from our empty wine bottles. Â Gregg "Opened up 2 bottles last night since I wanted red and the woman wanted white". C.
cfc Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 This could be the start of a whole second career, Larry. Time to book your space on the craft-show circuit now! Â It is a very good idea.
Mastersax68 Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 That's pretty cool.. too bad I don't drink
phazan Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 That's a really awesome idea. We're always wondering what to do with the corks from our empty wine bottles. Â Gregg "Opened up 2 bottles last night since I wanted red and the woman wanted white". C. Â Throw them away???
PKI Jizzman Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Great idea, Larry! My parents LOVE wine, this would be a great suggestion.
Chrisrad Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Hmmm... Â I work at a winery.. I can't tell you how many corks I see everyday.. Â If anybody would like some, please let me know!
Calaway Park Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I would throw the corks in a food processor and then mash it together ] Â Looks cool though!
Moose Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 You chose a circle as the shape? That's brave. Great job!
Homer Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 My mom did this years ago with the accumulation of wine corks around my house. Nice looking on a kitchen countertop might I add.
printersdevil78 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Looks good! A friend of mine did this a couple years ago, only he split the corks in two and boiled them so they would expand a bit, allowing him to work with fewer corks. His came out much the same way as this, only less circle-y and more rectangle-y.
wreinmicheal Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Heh heh heh! I've done that too but with a tray.
