X & How to ride it?

Based on my own X-periences (sorry, I had to ), the best way to ride X is to stay on the ground and watch.

Seriously, when I ride, I make sure I keep my legs crossed at the ankles to keep them from bouncing on the seat (my third ride was very painful because of that). You'll get the worst beating in the last two inversions on the ride.

Also, make sure the restraints are as tight as possible when you board the train. That'll also help to keep you from bouncing around.

All in all, X is a great concept, but was poorly executed.

No there is not a single rider line. You have to RUN to it in the morning and you can't get in line one hour before the park closes. The ride is rough but not too bad. My rides on it wern't that bad and it is fun. And the line for X goes slow for obvious reasons. Brace yourself in the second half of the ride and don't pass out in the hot long line and you'll be fine.

Brace yourself...

Either the back or front is fine, and sometimes the back will be the front, and sometimes the front will be the front. This isn't a coaster for airtime, so make the restraints as close together as possible, and pull the seatbelt tightly. Its a bit overrated, don't expect too much, and a bit too short and disorientating. RIDE THE INSIDE SEAT! And give your best friend the outside seat and see how much they'll love you... seriousley, the outside seat makes it a lot worst.

Evilness.

I went on X last year: I found the only way to avoid a large line is to run there as soon as the park opens... I made the mistake of doing X once, and then going round to do it again, cos the line was only up to the station: but it took a further hour from there!

As for best seats to ride in, I found the front of the train to be far the best. I did front twice, and it wasn't painful at all, but when I went towards the back, it kinda sucked. Inside seat is also better... and make sure you do those restraints up as tight as you can.

As EBL said, great idea, but poorly executed...

It's not a bad ride, just bumpy.

Ride in front or back and the inside seat, the outside is very very bumpy. My first ride in May 2004 was amazing, then another ride in August 2004 sucked ass. But the seats are very comfy and it's a very nice restraint system.

Try to get the inside seat and don't pick the front row. Try your hardest to keep your head back really hard, and push ur legs back don't kick them forward. One time I got really bad bruises from X because my legs were bouncing around and I was in shorts. I always take asprin before riding X also.

Yeah, see...here's where I'm concerned. I rode it 2 weeks ago (had to for a co-workers daughter...back outside seat). And what is normally my favorite part, the first drop, nearly knocked me out!!! I hit my head so hard on that first drop that I didn't remember anything till we were in the lazyboy turnaround! Now, I haven't ridden an outside seat in awhile, but even when I used to that first drop was NEVER as shaky as it was when I just rode it.

It is kind of sad, I remember riding it during the first few months of operation and it was in my top 10!!!! It's now just gotten so brutal that it's not really fun to me.

My other fond memory of the ride is while filming one of the Discovery Channel shows and having to ride it in an outside seat 8 times in a row, and watching all of the camera rigging shake itself apart during each ride!

The ride isn't that bad. The trick is to not expect that much out of it.

Make sure you ride on the right side (the side you have to go under the station), ride it in the front (the line bunches up in the back, so cut underneath the railings to the right, and make your way to the front...I wouldn't call it cutting if there was a space for the front ), and then sit on the inside seat. . . .yes, this quite oftenly means sacrificing your GP friends ride (if your partner is a child or older, more fragile person, have them sit on the inside).

Anyways, just keep telling yourself the ride is a bumpy piece of shit, that makes flashback look like butter, and you might come out with a smile, because it was "better than expected"... .

...works for me.

Man, I will *never* understand all the critisizm of X! I first rode in Apr of 02. I rode it 7 times in two days and fell in love with it. I mean I was contemplating if anything else would ever compare (yeah it really made an impact on me).

Fast forward time, and all of a sudden everyone loathes the ride. Great, another ride that got so rough it's unenjoyable. So I never make it out to Cali until this past April - over three years later.

I was nervous to ride X because of how rough everyone said it was and how people swear it off and never ride it again.

Well I'll tell you what, I rode it, and it hadn't lost a step! In fact, all of the negativity toward it made the ride even better for me, because my expectations were soooooo low. Even my bf Keith, who *hates* rough rides (he can't stand Storm Runner because he hits his head a couple times in some of the more intense parts) said X is his number two coaster, right behind SROS SFNE. And we even took his little Asian girlfriend who weighs no more than 105lbs with us, and she wanted to ride more than us! (she's not a coaster geek).

So either we had two really good days this past April on X, or I'm just completely missing all this "roughness" talk. Either way, we'll be out there again in Oct. so hopefully it's as good as I remember then, too!

My daughter, a 15-year-old, 105-lb half-Asian , rides it and loves it every time. I just get thrown around too much and have had more than my share of rough rides on it.

I'm glad it works for you, Joe. Honestly, the entire ride is a great concept, but is flawed in its execution. One thing that I think would have helped is a wider track, perhaps with the extra wheel set that drives the rack and pinion system (for seat rotations) on the inside rather than the way they ended up doing it. Trains would have had greater stability, and I believe that would have cut way down on the roughness.

I'm not an engineer, though I do work in the industry.

But the bottom line is that no one should have to "learn" how to ride anything. The idea of a ride is to get on and enjoy it.
