robbalvey Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 http://www.altoonamirror.com/page/content.detail/id/522221.html?nav=742 TIPTON - A car crashed through the fence of DelGrosso's Amusement Park and struck the Pharaoh's Fury ride about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The driver, whose name wasn't released, had broken a finger at his Bellwood home and was driving himself to Tyrone Hospital, traveling north on Old Route 220, when he passed out, said state Trooper Eugene Jenkins of the Hollidaysburg barracks. The car crossed the southbound lane, crashed through a fence and into the ride. "He never hit his brakes," Jenkins said. The driver suffered "serious lacerations to his head" but was conscious after the crash, Jenkins said. Wooden support beams from the ride poked through the windshield and into the passenger side of the white Chevrolet Impala. "I can't believe he's not dead," Jenkins said. DelGrosso's was closed at the time of the crash, park President and General Manager Carl Crider said. Crider and the staff were getting ready to leave when the crash occurred. "It sounded like a dump truck dropped something on the highway," Crider said. Crider said he wasn't sure how much the damage would cost. "We're just glad he was OK," Crider said. "You can always replace things." Pharaoh's Fury is one of four new rides at the park this year. Jenkins said the driver was transported to Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, and will be cited for careless driving.
ginzo Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 If that's not a photo for the Fail Blog, I don't know what is.
Real Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Wow. I bet the FF and EMT on the site were about to declare the guy DRT. Considering his condition that looks horrific.
Carnage Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 How do you pass out from a broken finger? Unless it was a compound fracture, spraying blood everywhere ...
Homeboy23 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 ^ Probably someone who can't handle any blood or stuff like that. There is a woman at my job who will scream at the sight of a paper cut. The man had luck on his side with the car going in where it did. A couple of feet to the right and he would've been dead in an instant.
ebl Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 The Pharaoh has seen some fury today... "If that's not a photo for the Fail Blog, I don't know what is." (ginzo) Actually, while Fail Blog would be a good choice, this might be suitable as well. Thank goodness the park was closed. Imagine if it had been open. This would have been quite a different scenario... Eric

The news station was covering a possible flood drowning and thought it was ground there and it wasn't. Amazingly the photog was able to save his camera and shot his own accident. Anyway, good thing the park was closed at the time, could have been worse.
tatertot3710 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 "He never hit his brakes," Jenkins said. That might explain why he hit the ride...Did this guy expect him to hit the brakes while he was unconscious??
Medusa1861 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 I was just at the park on Sunday. Unfortunately, I didn't keep up with the news as well as I thought I did. So I didn't take a picture because I didn't think it was unusual. If anyone is curious, it doesn't appear (after the wreckage was all cleared up) that any part of the actual ride got damaged. From what I saw of the ride, it looked like there just wasn't an exit platform built. So the cost to fix is probably very minimal.
Capitalize Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Wow, that guy has to feel pretty damn lucky.
Kennyweird Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 They're citing him for careless driving? For what?!
ginzo Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 They're citing him for careless driving? For what?! It's pretty standard to give some sort of "failure to maintain control" citation when someone drives off the road, etc. It's just a charge though. The guy might be able to talk the prosecutor into converting it into a lesser offense/fine considering the circumstances.
Speeddeamon128 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Well I know Delgrosso's solution to the problem...Sauce! It's a Behemoth/Ravine Flyer II trip thing
