ParkTrips
NICE! At leas the interior looks ok! I keep telling myself I want a small roadster (like a Z3), but I can't bring myself to buy another really impractical car
niiicolaaah
I'm a big fan of the VW Golf/GTI/R32. My boyfriend has a mark 5 R32 and since he got it I've become a little obsessed.
cprocks22
Just got an email from MINI today about reserving the "MINI Inspired by Goodwood"...and my only reaction to it is $52,000 for a MINI???
ParkTrips
speaking of VW, what's up with the Beetle having a Cayman-like ass? And that's not meant to be flattering..
AJClarke0912
I really love flooring the petal.  My excuse: "gives me practice with shifting near redline... in case... I need it... or something like that yeah" lol  Besides, VR6 makes sexy noise and gives Mr. Freeze style launches (x 1/2, but yeah).  I did notice though that I have some mods in my car. Neuspeed air filter, and the afore-mentioned MOMO Italy shift knob. I don't know if it's just the shift knob or if it's some kind of sport transmission (probably the former, but I like to think the latter lol). Anyway, it's interesting to see that the prior owner liked to have some fun as well. The car also has a really stiff suspension (you can feel every bump, and really bumpy road, like, hurt), but I don't know if it's just part of the car or not. It does make sporty driving much better though lol.
A.J.
speaking of VW, what's up with the Beetle having a Cayman-like A$$? And that's not meant to be flattering.. I actually prefer the round tail lamps of the old one. I would have liked the design better if they had taken the round lights and exaggerated them backward like the headlights on Porsche's new 991. ParkTrips
^ I could see that. I'm not really a beetle fan, so it really doesn't matter to me (or VW) in the end  I really love flooring the petal. My excuse: "gives me practice with shifting near redline... in case... I need it... or something like that yeah" lol Drive it like you stole it!!  Just went for a drive myself.. honestly, I HAVE to push my car to at least 4-5k to really feel anything. Its actually kinda sluggish in the city, so I get really excited when I see an on-ramp

ParkTrips
So as a new-found BMW fanboy, what do y'all think of the new F30 3-series? I haven't really liked the look of current-generation (E90) models, but that's mostly cause I think the prior generation E46 coupe is the best looking BMW ever (well, save for one certain model ) and the E9x's were the first to be Bangle'd. I think it looks ok at best, but as long as it drives well, I'll dig it  Of course this is the sedan, and I like the current gen coupes much more than the sedans, sooo A bit more rounded at the front, less aggressive IMO Not too different from the current 3er Now THAT I love
TPDave
As far as BMW goes, this has to be the best body they've ever done... Â
ParkTrips
if you throw the csl wheels on it, I really can't disagree
TPDave
Something about the convertible to me looks immeasurably better. The symmetry of the lines of something, it's just awesome. Â I also realised the other day that the disgusting early 2000's "melted" designs were growing on me a bit more. Anyone else partial to them or have I just gone crazy again? Â Dave
ParkTrips
It always takes me a while to come around on new designs - unless we're talking the 911 of course, since I grew up with that same rough shape  I agree, Dave. It is one of the classiest convertibles in my opinion, a timeless design before they became muddled in the same group as the IS350C/Toyota Solara crowd. I was mostly just sharing the pic of the wheels  it was just hard to find a convertible with those wheels that'll do
A.J.
Honestly, I really like the way BMW is going with the new 5-series and 3-series. I'm a big fan of automobile design that just flows and curves subtly all over. I like the new Infiniti M, EX, and FX and the face lifted G for this reason. TPDave
The M Sport version of the BMW 1 series is pretty badass too. I saw one of them at a show a couple of weeks ago and loved it! Â Still a bit too much money for a car of its size though, this has aways been a criticism of the one series. Â Dave
ParkTrips
And I don't understand that criticism. Ok, I guess I can understand it for the 128 (or especially the 120, which we don't get), but the 1M is a pretty badass car as you said, and no one seems to complain about its competition (Lotus, RS3, Gayman - all more expensive) being too small for the price. IMO its the right size for a sports car that can be driven daily.  The 1M is roughly the same size as an M3 from the late 90s. With car sizes going the way they are, I'd say the 1 being the size of a 3 from 2 generations ago is about right.  I kinda think the 1 looks mediocre to begin with, but I did see an all-black 1M that looks very aggressive - just sick, really. I'd take one, especially considering the resale value will hold especially strong if they truly intend for it to be a one-off  Honestly, I really like the way BMW is going with the new 5-series and 3-series. TPDave
^ Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was referring to the one series in general. The 1M while expensive is an awesome car that stack up well with the competition as you pointed out  Dave

A.J.
Okay, so, since I'm still employed at Walt Disney World and I have to go down there in the summer to keep my job, I'm going to need a car - Â I'm considering looking at a Mark III (US model year 1994 to 1998?) Volkswagen Golf. I love hatchbacks. Â I also read somewhere that you can retrofit cruise control to them, which is a plus, as I would be traveling a lot. Â Thoughts? ParkTrips
Thoughts? Car is cool, but cruise control is for old people
BaMiTsPaT
It does look like a neat little car. About cruise control, I think it is really nice for long drives. If I am going to sit in one lane and do 80 for a few hours I don't feel the need to keep my foot on the gas. I would rather rest it in a more comfortable position. jmicha
^This. I did a 10.5 hour trip to the Carolinas in my old Accord (before it was run into minding its own business parked on the street) and its cruise control was broken. It would work for about 30 seconds then slowly start losing speed at about 1mph per minute which obviously made it pretty worthless. So a 10.5 hour trip with my foot on the gas the whole time ended with me having a pretty sore foot. You definitely want cruise control if you're planning on ever taking some long drives. A.J.
I'm only concerned about retrofitting cruise control to it because I will have to drive at least one way between Orlando and Williamsport (my hometown) if I do end up purchasing a car. Interstate 95 is a dreary drive, and will take me two days, average of nine hours of driving per day to go one way. Â I'm concerned about getting a car in the first place because of my unfamiliarity with the Lynx bus system and the uncertainty of where I will be living at that time (I could get a great deal on an apartment, but that apartment could be twenty miles from WDW). Hotlanta
Thoughts? Car is cool, but cruise control is for old people Not on boring interstate drives though. Did a trip last month driving a small Penske truck from Atlanta to New York City. It wasn't any harder to drive than a Ford E-Series. But my leg just about gave up by the time i got there. It's as people say, you find out how valuable something is when you don't have it.
ParkTrips
Sorry, I just find cruise control 1. Takes the interaction out of driving, leading to... 2. Creates a false sense of security 3. Constantly needs to be readjusted on highways where people are moving at varying speeds 4. Takes away from fuel economy  Not a fan, even on 4 am drives on I20 between Atlanta and Columbia SC I refused to use cruise
