Not For Sale Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 When you guys go on a trip, how do you protect your feet from blisters or feet pain after or during a long day at the parks?
SharkTums Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Good Shoes and Clean Socks! That was a very interesting question!
Not For Sale Posted July 28, 2005 Author Posted July 28, 2005 I'd bet that question sounded weird with my avatar. But really, that's all? Your feet don't hurt after walking around all day?
Meteornotes Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 That's pretty much it. Plus, conditioning helps. Before the Europe trip, Mary and I got up every morning at 5:30 and did a five mile walk. It made all the difference on the trip, as we'd be tired at the end of every day, but neither one of us was ever sore. Well, I had pain from falling down and ripping my leg open, but that's another topic... dt
SharkTums Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 ^Which time? Seriously though...he's right about conditioning! I remember after our first big 'park trip' of the year (SDC/Celebration City/WoF) I was exhausted and my legs were killing me and I was taking so much Advil. So Robb and I went to SFMM more and walked up the damn hill, ran around Florida like idiots, and by the time Europe came around we were used to it!
Hattuchili Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Good Shoes and Clean Socks! I think that is the most important point for a good day at a park, and enough water or softdrinks! --Sören
Meteornotes Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Yeah, the water thing is also VERY important. And it should be water, not soda, as it hydrates you better. As far as socks go, I highly recommend ones from this company: http://www.thorlo.com/corporate/homepage/homepage.asp Yes, they're not cheap, but I noticed that my feet were in a lot better shape at the end of the day after switching over to these. dt
CoasterFanatic Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Most Important: CLEAN SOCKS. If you get them wet ... change them. // usually pack 2-3 pair per day when embarking on a trip
ebl Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Clean socks. Good shoes (in my case, Reebok DMX Walkers). Lots of walking (I walk no less than five miles at a time---often six to eight). Keep 'em clean. Keep the toenails trimmed. So there. Eric
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 I agree with all of the above. When we went on our TX trip last year Kristi and I were SO out of shape it wasn't even funny. By the last day at SFOT we were beat, and we didn't have as fun of a day as we should have. We were irratable and just wanted to go home. We also didn't take care of our feet that trip. I think we all wore sandals the whole time. BIG MISTAKE. This year when we went up north we were in good shape, wore good shoes and didn't get tired at all.
moinab Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 I must have feet of steel, because I wear flip-flops (or wool clogs, if it's chilly) and never have any problems. Maureen "17 trips to WDW last year" O'Donnell
stew560 Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Lots of walking (I walk no less than five miles at a time---often six to eight). Eric Damn! That's one hell of a trip to the fridge when you are thisty!
Flight Attendant Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 ...We also didn't take care of our feet that trip. I think we all wore sandals the whole time. BIG MISTAKE. Well I would have to disagree. It depends on the type of sandal that you use. I have a pair of "Earth Shoe" sandals that have a slight negative heel design that I could walk in all day long, with no pain, blisters, or foot fatigue. Infact...unless the weather is bad, that's what I wore going to most theme parks that I've gone to... including the little jaunt around Epcot. I do agree that clean socks (several pair do help to change out of) and some form of a very supportive athletic style shoe would work well. I have to watch out for something comfortable... I have heel spurs in both feet!
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 ^ I think sandals in normal weather conditions are okay. But in the TX heat and humidity (It was over 100 every day with 90+ percent humidity) it makes a difference. And as much as we were walking, it took it's toll. The kids were okay, but it took Kristi and I a few days to get back on track. Gregg "I didn't wear sandals for months after that trip" C.
Flight Attendant Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I concede... you're right about humidity and sandals (particularly if you you have straps hitting all the wrong spots). Botom line...get a supportive shoe. Squishing bottoms actually will wear your feet out faster due to lack of support.
USRoadTripper Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 One thing I learned the hard way is to make sure to alternate the shoes you are wearing. In Florida once, I only had one pair of sneakers and I had HORRIBLE blisters by the last day since the same places were rubbed for a solid week. On my last big trip, I had two pair of shoes and I made sure to always alternate days, and I was fine. No blisters, not even any soreness and I walked a ton. It would probably be wise to have three pair just in case one pair gets wet and takes a few days to dry. -Julie
SLUSHIE Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I've never had a problem with my feet hurting, and I don't wear the best shoes for walking.
