Electerik Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 When you think about it Superman at Magic Mountain must be considered a credit. I'm old enough to remember when this was a huge debate among enthusiasts. But then came the impulse coasters and things like Top Thrill Dragster and everyone pretty much just got over it and started counting it. But this argument raged over many a RRC thread for years. /Superman The Escape is not a roller coaster. //It's two.
netdvn Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 ^ I think it was only a debate simply because CP fanboys didn't want SFMM to have more coasters, nor did they want to admit that SFMM technically had the world's first Strata-coaster. Dan - Does that mean that Gemini and Colossus are two credits too?
denning Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Personally, I think the big thing is not if the coaster is countable but how many have your ridden. You look at a database of rides from all over the world, and you think wow one day I would like to try them all. You get proud when the see the list of the ones you have riden. And you get sad when the see the ones that have been removed before you had the chance. For me I would probably count the changes as different rides, because if asked have you been on that or do you want to go on that, you answer is not yet. I went on the old version but not before the changes. It is great to see as many have on this board when you rides from all over the world, not just orlando and your homepark as the majority of public has only experienced.
Speeddeamon128 Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 Dan - Does that mean that Gemini and Colossus are two credits too? I would think so. So CP & SFMM both have 18 coasters!
Hercules Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 ^ I think there is a huge difference between "credits" and actual coaster count. But I guess that is just me.
Myself Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 ^Indeed there is. The Devil's Den at Conneaut Lake Park is not a coaster, but it should count as a credit because it has a chain lift, is powered by gravity, and has a drop at the beginning. This also applies to the Haunted House at Camden Park, being the other remaining gravity dark ride.
Goliath513 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Dan - Does that mean that Gemini and Colossus are two credits too? I would think so. So CP & SFMM both have 18 coasters! I have all 18 credits at Cedar Point, whereas I only have 15 credits at SFMM (that includes Flashback, but I never got a chance to ride Psyclone). However, that will soon change after my SFMM trip in a few weeks after Terminator opens!
robbalvey Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Besides riding a coaster you haven't ridden before is there a way to get new credits? With Medusa (GADV) & Superman: Ride of Steel (SFNE) changing to Bizarro should they be considered new credits? I personally don't think so. They are the same layout with a new color, theme, & effects. X2 was not considered a new credit so I don't think the Bizarros should be. However would you consider Batman & Robin: The Chiller four credits? When the coasters had the Zero-G rolls they were two different credits. However when the Zero-G rolls were removed the layout was changed so should the ride without Zero-G rolls be considered a new credit? Was Phantom's Revenge a new credit after Steel Phantom got its inversions removed? Obviously Batman & Robin: The Chiller is no longer standing but it has been on my mind for a few days & I thought I should bring it up. Obviously there are no set "rules" for what you consider a credit. Some sites, like CoasterCounter.com will have coasters on the list that I personally wouldn't count, but if I'm on their site, I play by their rules. My personal count is different than my count on that site. For my personal count I do NOT count - - Relocated coasters (unless there is some kind of VERY signficant modification to the ride) - Dual tracked coasters where each track is exactly the same (Superman: The Escape for example, does not count as two, but Dueling Dragons does) - Powered Coasters (these rides never actually 'coast!') - Coasters that only have slight modifications (new trains, train turned backwards, effects added, etc) Note that I also did not count Son Of Beast again when the loop was removed, but I DID count Phantom's Revenge. - Coasters that have been re-built from the ground up but retain the EXACT same layout and ride experience (Space Mountain at Disneyland for example) - Water Coasters, unless the majority of the ride is a coaster experience (Buzzsaw Falls at Silver Dollar City counts, IMO, but the ride at Mt. Olympus did not.) - Freefalls or any other kind of drop tower
Kennyweird Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 ^ I have the exact same rules as Robb, except I don't count dueling coasters as two credits, no matter how different each side is. Essentially, if the park treats it as one coaster, I treat it as one coaster.
WFChris Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I count my coasters based on whether or not they are in the RCDB. This seems to rule out carnival rides, but I do count two for twin tracks (S:TE, and Colossus for example). RCDB counts the Wacky Soap Box Racers at KBF, but strangely, I dont think I want to count it as four. Does anybody else count them? Or the Steeplechase at Blackpool? Chris.
FeelTheFORCE Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 ^^ Regarding the dueling coasters such as Dueling Dragons and Lightning Racer, perhaps the park treats them as one experience, but not necessarily one coaster. To each his/her own, but I think if you're not going to count racing coasters as two, then don't count clones either. If two Batman: The Rides were built right next to each other, they wouldn't be counted, but since they are a certain distance apart (at different parks, in this case), they are counted? Same goes for Superman: The Escape and Tower of Terror. They are exactly the same albeit a small height difference (note that the actual drops are advertised as the same, just the structure heights are different, and the speed is advertised as the same). I just don't think that makes much sense, but as said before, there really are no rules and each person has a different opinion. Note: this is coming from someone who counts Gemini as two different credits.
