lorddoonga Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I am planning a trip to NJ Six Flags come June and I need a little information. 1. What great rides are there? 2. Is it expensive? 3. Can all the best rides be done in a day? Thanks for helping
Goliath513 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I assume you're talking about SFGAdv. 1. The best rides are: El Toro, Nitro, Kingda Ka, Medusa, and Batman 2. Everything is expensive at Six Flags parks 3. Easily! I got in all but two coasters when I was there for only a half day in August.
Speeddeamon128 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 GADV is my home park so here are some helpful hints. Goliath513 basically pointed out the best coasters. Don't waist your time with Dark Knight since it is a standard mouse coaster in a box with crappy theming. It is like $13 for a cheeseburger, fries, & a drink so I recommend the Wawa gas station down the street for food. Oh & pay a little extra money for a Q-Bot!
larrygator Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 If you want to be assured of getting everything done in one day get the Flash Pass. Weekdays in June are much better of course, but there is always a chance of hitting thr park on a busy school trip day. I've seen pretty long lines on certain weekends in June. Since no one mentioned it the back row of Skull Mountain is a must, but you have to go through the queue to get back row, Flash Pass has designated seats towards the middle of the train. Leaving the parks to get food will save you $5 bucks or so but will also cost you about an hour.
CHILLERLC1 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I would still ride the Dark Knight. I would get mandatory Flashpass for SUF at least. Good luck during June that it's light if you go during a weekday. Blackbeard Treasure Train tends to have the shortest line for a coaster in the park and it's fun.

Shortest line....and loooongest train!
DCody Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I absolutely recommend the Flashpass. I wouldn't do SFGAdv without it! The lines for Ka and Toro can get kind of silly-long. And yeah, skip the Dark Knight unless you're a total credit fiend!
sixflagsguy5 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 1. Personally I like El Toro, Kingda Ka, Nitro, Medusa, and Skull Mountain. I'm very picky about which coasters are my favorite, but those are all very good. There are a lot more that you'll probably like. 2. The amount of money you spend on anything really just depends on how you pace your spending. I'm able to get away with going to a six flags park for under $15 for the entire day. I have a car, so I'm able to drive to fast food outside of the park ($5 footlong!!) and I have a season pass. For getting into the park I would suggest finding a friend who has a pass and has coupons, buying online, or using a discount (coupons or a coke can). 3. Yes!! I was out East this summer and we planned for a total of 2 days at the park (1/2 day, full day, 1/2 day). My friend who had never been to the park before had ridden every roller coaster except for one or two within the first half day. Just plan on going on a weekday. It really makes a huge difference. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually really good.

Teacups Make Me Sick Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 3. Can all the best rides be done in a day? Go on a Sunday, during the week, or anytime before the 15th(ish)...once schools let out, I avoid going. Anytime before schools let out, you will be able to hit everything (unless you go on a day with a ton of school trips).
Speeddeamon128 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I hate those days when you go & a stupid school trip is there. It rarely happens at GADV but when it does the GP is really annoying. Well the GP is annoying to me every trip I especially hate the GP around El Toro. They always wait for the front rows & everyone gets jammed up & the line takes forever. The back rows are almost always empty, not to mention better. School trips=Flash Pass
YoshiFan Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I found that mid to late May during the week and early June was the best since they go to daily operations around May 15th. Other than Kingda Ka Dark Knight and I think El Toro, all coasters were 5 minute waits or less and in most cases walk ons. Only bad thing is the park closes at 6:00. Even weekends up to June aren't too bad. I went last year on a Sunday in early June and every coaster in the park including Kingda Ka was a walk on. The only wait was the log flume because it was around 100 degrees out (yet the rapids had less than a 5 minute wait).
Capitalize Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Might want to get one of those cursed q-bots to make sure you get everything done. Otherwise on most days you'll be waiting 1-2 hours for every coaster in my experiences.
Speeddeamon128 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 ^If you get a golden cursed Q-Bot you an ride both El Toro & Kingda Ka 10x in one day! I've done it!
larrygator Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 There is never a reason to ride Kingda Ka 10 times in one day.
Jayjay719 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Sometimes I can barely do two runs with Kingda Ka. I do try to ride it atleast once when I go to Great Adventure.
Speeddeamon128 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 There is never a reason to Kingda Ka 10 times in one day. I enjoy riding Kingda Ka over & over again
bspellx5 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 ^Is Kingda Ka THAT intense? Just wondering because I am planning on going opening day and am kind of nervous..
FeelTheFORCE Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 ^Is Kingda Ka THAT intense? Just wondering because I am planning on going opening day and am kind of nervous.. Depends on what you've ridden before. I know the first time I rode TTD, I thought it was extremely intense, but now that I have ridden it several times, and have ridden rides like it, it's not that intense, and I didn't find KK to be all that intense.
YoshiFan Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 The first time I rode KK, it was too much for me. My chest was hurting for a few minutes and even though it was a walk on after my first ride, I chose not to ride again. I tried it again a few weeks later and didn't have my chest hurt this time. I have yet to ride it more than 3 times in a day but haven't had any problems since then even though the launch still seems intense to me after 11 rides this past season.

The only other launchers I've ridden are Storm Runner, Jokers Jinx, VooDoo/Possessed or whatever it is now, and Steel Venom from GL. I think KK is probably a pretty big step up from those right?
PaulZ Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 I wouldn't reccommend running all the way to Ka on the "running of the bulls" because you will definetly get tired. I always do it and I'm still out of breath even when I get on the ride, but if you want go for it! My personal favorites are: El Toro, Kingda Ka, Great American Scream Machine, Batman the ride, and skull mountain. If you go during a week you will be able to do everything in one day. It will be expensive and I'd reccommend doing El Toro in the last row.
Speeddeamon128 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 ^Is Kingda Ka THAT intense? Just wondering because I am planning on going opening day and am kind of nervous.. As FeelTheFORCE stated the ride isn't that intense after the first time you ride it. In the front row is the best because the wind is strong in your face & once your arms are up they basically stay up If this is your first launch coaster it might be intimidating because your used to the slow chain lifts & you are ready for what is ahead of you. Launch coasters aren't like that. Once you launch everything is a blur & the ride is over before you know it. I always bring new riders on the second train so they can watch the first train launch & get all freaked out. It really isn't that bad & it is over in about 30 seconds after the launch. That feeling of launching from 0-128 mph in 3.5 seconds is amazing & I'm sure you will be fine. I might be there opening day as well & you'll probably see me riding Kingda Ka over & over again

Storm Runner's is similar. It doesn't las as long, nor do you go as fast (obviously), but it gives you a feel of what KK is like.
