mcjaco Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Quick question for anyone: Does anyone have the beta for GermanTaco's Ride Effects? I figure I would ask here before trying elsewhere. His site is down right now and some of his effects look pretty cool. I forgot to respond. I checked last night, and that is one of the sets I don't have. Shame on me! Where did you get that demon? He's downright nasty!
terrancew_hod Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 ^I think he's one of the animatronic characters in the game. The volcanoes were modified by DasMatze to be ride events so they begin erupting at different points in the ride. Also I added a angry gorrila sound effect for the demon's roar... it's actually pretty scary. Speaking of DasMatze, I have to see if I can get his new eurofighter model....his site is temporarily down... and see if maybe he has the beta ride events. I think the water explosion would look good on the drop into the water I posted. Oh and I did smooth that section out so it isn't as blocky. Terry
terrancew_hod Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 The hunt continues for the ride effects I want to use, but I did a bit on progress on the demon encounter in hell. When I slowed down the train to do a pass by the demon, it knocked my excitement way down. I had to figure a way to get it back up and still be able to get a good look at the demon before resuming. So I played with enclosing the parts that speed through that scene, which included a drop that had kept the rating up. I began creating some caves to speed through, which also will block the coaster's view of the demon until it actually slows down for the pass by. Now a few pics: When I finish this area, the drop that the car is on will be hidden as well. Now we slow the car down for the demon encounter. We are also above the last cave walls so the demon is in full view. Also my ratings went back up almost to where they were before. The caves are built around a volcano. I have to get rid of that annoying lava fountain, but I was playing around with those as well. But after a banked turn with a view of the volcano and lava, it goes back into the cavern. The exit from another view. Notice the exit is a bit tight... yep, you're in hell! Coming out one of the caverns... The cliffs now hide the demon from the train until the last turn. The uncompleted caves. I have to redo some parts where the cave causes some real head choppers! Ouch!!! Now going into the cave scene and I included a slightly bigger drop to get the speed up. Yay! There is at least one loop in hell!
AlmereStars Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 great jobs on the caves Terrance the ride looks better every update
thrillrideseeker Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Holy Hell!! Terrance your project is looking really good! Does your computer not lag with all the scenery?! ~Matthew
terrancew_hod Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 Right now, I think there may be a little lag in POV, but I also have all the settings on high; turning down the LOD settings should help when I'm ready to record. Also the video drivers on my hack-mac aren't optimized (which everyone complains about) so when I do my POV I'll record it in windows. I'm also running a bunch of programs in the background, so closing them will help as well. I'm running with a 512 8800GT, it's still not that bad. I will probably buy a better video card later when I get some extra cash... and this europe trip paid for! Terry
DBru Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 I love the caves... And sacrificing the excitement rating a bit was definitely worth the extended demon encounter! Definitely the best piece of scenery that came with RCT3!
terrancew_hod Posted January 3, 2009 Author Posted January 3, 2009 I think the caves are coming out pretty well... actually the whole coaster considering this is the first time I've built something like this. I think tonight my goal is to finish the caves (which includes deleting a track section and lowering the ground to get all the cave pieces in) and cleaning up the Waterbearer scene... which was the point of me staying up last night! See how I get distracted? And the waterbearer scene got created because I got distracted on the crypt building! A few more stats for the current coaster: Number of drops: 39 Number of loops: 11 Number of really nasty surprises awaiting riders: 3 Times the Waterbearer wasn't on her J.O.B.: 1 Terry
thrillrideseeker Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Number of drops: 39Number of loops: 11 Number of really nasty surprises awaiting riders: 3 Times the Waterbearer wasn't on her J.O.B.: 1 For everything else theres Mastercard!! I think the coaster sounds amazing! How many blocks, and trains do you have?~Matthew
terrancew_hod Posted January 3, 2009 Author Posted January 3, 2009 ^I'm still playing around with that trying to figure out how to time them correctly. But right now I managed about five and there was still a wait to get on at the beginning. I think it may depend on the order where I laid out various elements and block brakes. I may add another station just for the exit to see if that evens things out.
DBru Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 ^I think adding a separate exit station is a great idea. Not only would it be practical for loading times, but also give riders an eerie feeling when an empty train returns to the station. I know it always creeps me out when I see one of Flight of Fear or Disaster Transport's trains rolling into the loading area, even though I witnessed people loading them just minutes ago...
Freefallbestrideever Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Wow, that's amazing! Makes me wish i still had RCT3, i have no idea how much time goes into something like this and i think i don't want to know I would probably be too scared to ride in real life lol
King of Ka Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 I have to just echo what everybody else is saying: holy crap, this is amazing! The theme is great, and the way you did it is beyond awesome. This is my new favorite thing on RTC3.
terrancew_hod Posted January 3, 2009 Author Posted January 3, 2009 And sacrificing the excitement rating a bit was definitely worth the extended demon encounter! Definitely the best piece of scenery that came with RCT3! I'm a lot more pleased with the changed scene. Probably needs a little more tweaking but it's much closer to what I want. I also cleaned up the caves a bit, but I forgot to take a picture of one of the changes. I'm about to go back into the game now, but I took this pic yesterday: Go'on come closer, he just wants to give you a hug!
terrancew_hod Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 Well, I spent most of the weekend on my ride again! I had an issue with certain things that stopped working when I added another ride station. So once that was fixed I started working on the scenes again. I've learned how to use the waterfall custom objects, and made my first blocky building... yay for me! The updates for today consists of a little cave cleanup, the interlude to the Act 3 and parts of Act 3 without giving too much away. I did work on a bit of the front of the ride building, but nothing that looks good to take pics of. No hints on the ending, but it looks like we'd better high tail it out of here! I used exploding barrels from Dasmatze's Coal Mine set and hide them within scene for timed explosions! If anyone has ride events that can be hidden, I would love to have them! Looks like we brought a little nasty back with us! How about getting caught in the middle with a fire and water? And watch those hands! Remember the teaser image to act three? I built it up a little more. We're not quite home, but we're not in Hell either. We're at the Waterbearer temple (at least the first attempt)... but how will we get home? Now you can see the demon coming out of the last cave. A drop into the cave with just a little hint of lava... Nothing like not having rocks slap you in the face at high speeds! A little turn in the dark hurts no one though...
the ghost Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 This is amazing!! One of the best looking RCT3 projects I have ever seen!
DBru Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Haha, that demon-head and hands are cool effects...
gisco Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Terry, you almost make me want to try my hand at this. I would never finish a ride or park though and besides I have more fun looking at what others create.
terrancew_hod Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 ^Well I'm having fun doing it and it keeps me out of trouble on the weekend! I haven't been able to do updates since I'm trying my hand at ride buildings. I spent last night gathering ideas of how I want the building to look, so it's a matter of implementing my ideas. My goal is to try to get at least the front of the ride completed this weekend. So far I'm doing some gothic vaults for the ride stations and have a few castle walls built for the front and getting the walls build up around the coaster to get it from act 3 back to the station. I did get my hands on some more ride events and I'm going to play around with those this weekend as well. Terry
terrancew_hod Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 ^ I'm going to make it a little bigger, but actually it's not going fast enough to cause problems. It was slowed down to view the explosions within a tight space. I'm going to speed up the previous section though so this will need to be bigger. I posted a few pics on the Atari site and the person that made the rocks in my pics said I made good use of them. EDIT: I also added the vaults I created into both ride station areas, so they're coming together quite nicely. The exit station may be able to see the last drop since it's under the same roof, but people being able to see it should give it a bit more excitement. Besides showing a bit of the ride to people just getting off gives nothing away. Terry
Twister II Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Those in-game supports are just horrid looking. Trying using JCat's Steelworx to add some supports. Also, be careful with the rocks and textures - you don't want to repeat the same over again. Try another rock set if that works too.
paintballer Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Wow. Just Wow. Terry, If you'd be so kind could ou tell me the name of the set that has the purple lights and the rocks?
terrancew_hod Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Those in-game supports are just horrid looking. Trying using JCat's Steelworx to add some supports. Also, be careful with the rocks and textures - you don't want to repeat the same over again. Try another rock set if that works too. Question: Once I enclose the ride and make black backgrounds to give it a dark ride feel, should I waste the framerates on custom supports you eventually won't see or devote it to ride effects and scenery? That's what I thought. I'm well aware of Steelworx and I'm using the support killer to remove the supports from the scenery. Anything outside the ride building is fair game for supports (and there is a tiny part outside the castle that will need them), but for the majority of the ride, which is inside and in the dark, it's more of a fantasy so a support will not be needed. And I'm not really going for realism in this ride at this time. As I've said before, I'm placing objects to see if I like them then cleaning them up. The scenes that are more dark ride oriented (and properly lighted) may get the custom supports, but a good portion of of the ride is an attempt to give the feeling of running down corridors, caverns or in the dark, so I doubt seeing a support is going to add anything to it. So in short, if there is a support that needs to show in any part of the the final ride, I'll clean it up with something custom. Also I've been playing around with other rock sets, like shyguy's for other parts of the ride; I just haven't showed those areas. The areas that I'm shown that have these rocks are actually two small areas in the ride and were the quickest to throw a prototype together on. Some rocks have been mixed together to fill in gaps, but I find the rocks I've been using are probably the gloomiest out of the rocks and gives a darker feel to the hell scenes. The tight helix will be redone, so I'll see there can be some different rocks there when I take everything apart... but I'm willing to bet that part of it will be back. See, there is a method to the madness. Terry, If you'd be so kind could ou tell me the name of the set that has the purple lights and the rocks? The lights are DRP Lights 2.0 and the rocks are from composerboy. Terry
