BeemerBoy Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Second, selling Rondo for 200,000 in cold hard cash. These kind of arguments/complaints always baffle me. You do realize that if NBA execs knew Rondo would become the player he is today, he would've been drafted #1 out of Kentucky, right? It's like saying, "Damn, I sure am stupid for not heavily investing in that Google IPO." Trust me, I watched every single game Rondo played at UK, and even I would have had no hesitation in using him to trade up, etc., had the C's drafted him that year. Sometimes, people and things surpass expectations. PS: The worst NBA owner is Donald Sterling. Not even a question. The poster child for FAIL.
Josh Linn Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Just because you like sports doesn't mean everyone else has to. No, but they should. It's borderline un-American.
Sir Clinksalot Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I think what really matters, is that the Celts have ROOOOONNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Rondo will NOT be an elite point guard until he learns how to hit his free-throws and develops some kind of outside shot.
atem122 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 PS: The worst NBA owner is Donald Sterling. Not even a question. Being a Clippers fan...I couldn't agree more. Congrats to the f***ing Lakers.

Not another player. Cash. It was a first round draft pick. They sold it for cash. how does that baffle you? Scouting staff - "Wow, our lead scout, David Griffin one of the best in the biz is telling us this Rondo guy is gonna be good. " Sarver - "Hmm, I know I can get money for this pick.." Sarver to Dantoni(who he had /just/ made GM, as well as Head Coach) - "Hey, I'm thinking about selling our first rounder for cash." Dantoni(the other douchebag) - "Yeah, I only use 6 guys anyway. I hate the guys on our bench, they are useless. He'd just sit on the bench anyway." Sarver "Sorry, we are selling our first round for cash, but hey, Amare is coming back next year! he's our "First rounder!"" Ugh. Don't even get me started about the Kurt Thomas trade.
ParkTrips Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 ^ LOVE IT!! I can't believe a team just shot 30ish% and won a game 7 (or that the Celtics lost with that in mind!!) - take away the last half of the 4th, and I think we just watched a high school basketball game. What was the rebound margine on the game??

Um, yeah, explain how still ending up with Steve Nash and a solid title contender for the past five years is a bad thing? (psst, take a look at the bold letters in the above quote - I'll well aware of what happened) Hell, my favorite teams are folding like an effin' table napkin this year, and I'm not even bitching as much as Phoenix fans. Wes, I love it!

Wes, I love it! Nash was signed before Sarver became majority owner, and this year he was doing everything he could to pawn off Amare Stoudemire.
BeemerBoy Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Okay, let me put it this way. REGARDLESS of how the living hell the team was formed, for the past 6 years, the Phoenix Suns have been a legitimate title contender. THIS IS BAD???? I guess it's at least bad enough to argue moot points to the death though. There are FAR WORSE run organizations in the league. Scott "Done." B.
mcjaco Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Maybe they should reflect back to the Suns prior to Barkley's arrival. Most people didn't even knew they existed! I have not watched more than a handful of NBA games this year, but last night's game was a reason I don't. Sloppy, and boring. And I don't care for either team. Although I do like Phil Jackson, since I've met him many times while he was the Bulls coach.
808Freq Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Sarver had absolutely nothing to do with acquiring Steve Nash. Hell, the Suns didn't even WANT Steve Nash. They wanted Kobe Bryant. Sarver sucks, that's all there is to it. And I'm sorry.. but trading a player for just cash should not be allowed. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. It's not like they were kicking the pick down the road. They SOLD it. That isn't the only time he's done that, either. I saw your 'etc', but you were trying to reason as to why Sarver would sell a pick claiming that nobody knew he'd be good. Well Griff thought he'd be good, and he's the lead scout. So that's at least 1 person that matters. Beemer, I do totally agree that the Suns have put a winning team out on the floor the last few seasons. But it had nothing to do with Robert Sarver. The payroll was already pretty much locked and loaded with players when he took over. He's even had the suns up there in the top 5 in terms of payroll. But he does /really stupid/ shit to save money, which is why he's labeled as cheap. And I am seriously grateful the Suns arn't owned by Sterling. Although it will be nice in the coming years not to have to worry about playoff outcomes You could argue that it is Sarver's the Suns never got a ring. I don't think Rondo puts PHX over the hump in any particular year, because the only year he really matters to the Suns is this current year. Even with him, the Suns probably don't beat the Lakers(Plus, Dragic turned out great). But the KT trade was decimating. Especially considering KT was acquired by the Spurs and used to beat us in the same freaking year. Shaq was another one of Sarver's great ideas. Are there worse owners out there? Yes Does Robert Sarver suck and need to be forced to sell the franchise? Yes Will it happen? No *Edit* Alright, I know nobody cares about the stupid Suns, and I'll stop now .
DOCTOR DOOM!!! Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Lebron threw that series! Has anyone heard the rumor about DeLonte West had "relations" with Lebrons mom?! Doctor "Cavs got SUPER PWNED!!!" Doom P.S. Lakers in 7!!!
Josh Linn Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 The Lakers win again, FML. Hopefully Durant and OKC can make a run next year, but it's too bad they won't be doing it where they should be, and that's in Seattle. Talk about another joke of an owner, Clay Bennett is it.
808Freq Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 ^^ OKC is gonna be monstrous. I'd expect them to trade or do something this offseason to get some more thickness down low. Ibaka is gonna be a beast, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them add to their post.
Bolliger&Mabillard Posted June 19, 2010 Author Posted June 19, 2010 Thought it'd be worth a mention... http://www.nba.com/2010/news/06/19/manute.bol/index.html#?ls=iref:nbahpt1 Former center Manute Bol dies at age 47 Posted Jun 19 2010 3:11PM - Updated Jun 19 2010 5:50PM KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Manute Bol, a lithe 7-foot-7 shot-blocker from Sudan who spent 10 seasons in the NBA and was dedicated to humanitarian work in Africa, died Saturday. He was 47. Bol died at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, where he was being treated for severe kidney trouble and a painful skin condition, Tom Prichard, executive director of the group Sudan Sunrise, said in an e-mail. "Sudan and the world have lost a hero and an example for all of us," Prichard said. "Manute, we'll miss you. Our prayers and best wishes go out to all his family, and all who mourn his loss." Bol played in the NBA with Washington, Golden State, Philadelphia and Miami, averaging 2.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.3 blocks for his career. He led the league in blocks in 1985-86 with Washington (5.0 per game) and in 1988-89 with Golden State (4.3 a game). "Manute's impact on this city, our franchise and the game of basketball cannot be put into words," 76ers president and general manager Ed Stefanski said in a statement. "He ... was continually giving of himself through his generosity and humanitarian efforts in order to make the world around him a much better place, for which he will always be remembered." Bol joined the NBA with Washington in 1985 and played three seasons there. He returned to the team briefly toward the end of his career. The Wizards lauded him as a "true humanitarian and an ambassador for the sport of basketball." "Despite his accomplishments on the court, his lasting legacy will be the tireless work and causes he promoted in his native Sudan and the cities in which he played," the club said in a statement. After the NBA, Bol worked closely as an advisory board member of Sudan Sunrise, which promotes reconciliation in Sudan. . Bol was hospitalized in mid-May during a stopover in Washington after returning to the United States from Sudan. Prichard said then that Bol was in Sudan to help build a school in conjunction with Sudan Sunrise but stayed longer than anticipated after the president of southern Sudan asked him to make election appearances and use his influence to counter corruption in the county. He said Bol had undergone three dialysis treatments and developed Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, a condition that caused him to lose patches of skin. Prichard said the skin around Bol's mouth was so sore he went 11 days without eating and could barely talk. Prichard said it's believed Bol contracted the skin disease as a reaction to kidney medication he took while in Africa. Janis Ricker, operations manager of Sudan Sunrise, said Saturday the organization will continue its work building the school in Bol's home village in southern Sudan. She said Bol's goal was to build 41 schools throughout Sudan.
808Freq Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 RIP to a great, GREAT man. Hopefully ESPN really promotes the causes that have relied heavily on his hard work since his retirement.
BeemerBoy Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I hope Wes has a bet going on with his buddies again, so that we can see the return of his avatar wearing a Celtics jersey! Celtics in six.
808Freq Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 July 1st starts FA. What do you guys think of the big free agents? Bosh = Miami or Cleveland Joe Johnson = NY Amare = NY or Miami Boozer = Miami Wade = Miami Lebron = Cleveland Kinda hard to pencil it in because so many of them depend on the others. Bosh & Amare being the perfect example. Miami could get Bosh & Boozer to pair with wade. That would be unfair. Bosh to Cleveland rumors keep popping up as well. Amare wants to go to Miami, but Miami would rather have Bosh, but Bosh would rather play with Lebron or Kobe, but Lebron wants to play with Wade but Booze..*Brain aneurysm*
themeparkman25 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I think Denver should move on a legitimate big guy because that was their weakest piece this year. And with Carmelo's contract expiring after the season, it's in the teams best interest to win or give him a reason to stay next year.
Wes Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I hope Wes has a bet going on with his buddies again, so that we can see the return of his avatar wearing a Celtics jersey! Celtics in six.
808Freq Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 ^ You don't think anyone is coming to Chicago???? I see Chicago getting the aftermath of whatever is left over after Miami gets done. That is my opinion because I believe that while Chicago is a better option, Miami is thought of as a 'better option' to the players involved. Especially Wade, Boozer, and Amare. That leaves Bosh and Lebron. I could easily see Lebron or Bosh signing in Chicago, but I'd also bet the odds are still with Bronbron staying in Cleveland, and Bosh ending up with Wade in Miami. Amare will go to whoever pays him more money, with Miami having the tie break, and NY having the 2nd tie break because he knows D'antoni won't make him play or even practice defense.
