Bolliger&Mabillard Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 ^Unless everybody is willing to take a paycut....but the large media markets really got the shaft on this one. Over the course of time, instead of making smaller markets better (such as Milwaukee, Charolette, Indianapolis) it's just going to dillude the prestiege that the Lakers have built up. I'm not saying this as a fan, but this CBA was designed to f*ck over no other team but them, which stinks, because they're on-court success has very little to do with them being in Los Angeles. If Jerry Buss owned the Utah Jazz, and had Jerry West/Mitch Kupchak as GM, then Malone and Stockton would have 5-6 rings. The fact that the Lakers are a brand that can entice a $3 billion TV deal shouldn't mean they can't spend that money on talent, since the Pacers can't get the same deal. All that means to me is that L.A. deserves an NBA Team....and OKC(which was in a much larger market in Seattle), Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Charolette, Memphis, Sacramento, and Minniapolis shouldn't have teams....
Jew Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 So...uhh....David Stern just officially blew up the NBA.
mcjaco Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 That deal sucked for the rest of the league. Â David Stern is still satan though. And blame the Cavaliers owner. Supposedly he applied pressure to block it.
Jew Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 ^In owning the hornets, is it the leagues job to do what is best for that team (so they can actually sell it for a decent price), or do what is "best" (is it really in the leagues best interest to hold down the teams that generate the most revenue? Shouldn't the league want the rich teams paying the luxury tax to the smaller teams while still making money??) for the league. Â Seriously, if the NBA doesn't let the trade happen...in six years when the CBA expires, the league is in SERIOUS trouble. There's a huge divide between the have and have nots amongst the owners, and now the league is basically holding CP3 hostage (if he gets traded this season...he keeps his Bird rights and can sign for $100 mill on the new team, or if he leaves as a free agent, he can only get $77 mill).
pdcon Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Ok here is my argument on the whole Paul thing, Stern is saying its not benefiting anybody but Lakers, this is false. Paul is a free agent next season, after what they have done to him there is no chance hes going to resign with the hornets, so let the hornets trade him now before he become a free agent and get some lagitament players out of it, Lamar Odom, Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic, lamaer odem is a 7 foot beast, he not the strongest but he can handle a team on the court, Kevin martin is easily a top 5 scorer in the nba. Yes, Paul is the shining star on the top of this Christmas tree trade, but looking at the whole picture what everybody is getting is not that big of a difference. So let the hornets trade him now while he still has value, it will help them in the future.
Jew Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 It was obvious the "small market" owners were butthurt this trade was going to go down followed shortly after by a trade for Dwight Howard. They didn't want that to happen, even if the NBA has been carried by star players in star markets forever (and it would net them more in luxury tax money). Â The Lakers actually would have gotten worse with just this trade. They would have absolutely no front court depth at all to go with that ridiculously good backcourt of CP3 and Kobe. The Rockets (a small market team) would have gotten a star they would have no chance of getting otherwise, and the Hornets would have gotten 4 quality players (which they could either keep for a playoff caliber team or flip for more draft picks)+a draft pick to start the rebuilding process.
stingrock23 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 This whole thing was just ridiculous. I was happy with what the Hornets were getting considering Paul is gone next year anyway. This just looks so bad. Â If the owners really wanted to stop this, they should have held out for a hard salary cap. They made their bed and have to lie in it.
Jew Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 So CP3 might be going to LA after all...to the Clippers! Â Chris Kaman, Eric Bledsoe, Al-Farouq Aminu, and Minnesota's un-protected 1st round draft choice. Â Kaman is an expiring contract they'll flip to a contender at the deadline. Eric Bledsoe is turnover prone and coming off knee surgery. Aminu hasn't shown anything. It is a deep draft though. Â if the NBA approves this trade, they basically took the "high risk, high reward" approach instead of the Lakers deal which would have given them a solid team that would probably make the playoffs.
Sir Clinksalot Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 If they approve the Clippers trade, the NBA is basically giving an "F-U" to the Lakers. Â The Lakers trade made WAY more sense than the Clippers trade. Â As was said above, if the Hornets don't move CP3, they get nothing at the end of the season. As it was, they were going to get some great young players, and would probably be more competitive than they were last year with CP3.
ernierocker Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Could Dallas end up being the biggest winner out of Stern killing that trade? Odom for cash and a future draft pick! Â I'm also curious if Andrew Bynum is going to get any kind of suspension for his flagrant foul against Barea in the playoffs last year?
Sir Clinksalot Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 ^ He already got a 5-game suspension.
ernierocker Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 ^Starting at the beginning of this season? I completely missed that.
DevilSaint Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 If they approve the Clippers trade, the NBA is basically giving an "F-U" to the Lakers. Â The Lakers trade made WAY more sense than the Clippers trade. Â As was said above, if the Hornets don't move CP3, they get nothing at the end of the season. As it was, they were going to get some great young players, and would probably be more competitive than they were last year with CP3. Â That was a ridiculous haul the NBA was asking from the Clippers for Paul. The Clippers offered 4 or the 6 lucrative pieces they have and the NBA turns around and says "nah...we want all 6." It really makes no sense, unless the Hornets are pegged for contraction when Pauls contract runs out at the end of the season. Â Â Could Dallas end up being the biggest winner out of Stern killing that trade? Odom for cash and a future draft pick! Â I don't know how well Odom is going to handle all this - he's already pretty much broken down crying on national radio about how betrayed he feels and I could see that sending him into a funk all season. He's made it clear for years that he only wants to play in beach cities. Add to that all the Kardasian "why is everyone saying I'm a problem, honey?" drama he is dealing with. I hope Dallas enjoys their 32-year old, emotionally broken, unhappy living in Dallas reigning 6th man of the year...
Jew Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 ^I agree. Coming out and saying he wouldn't want to play for NO (read: he can't handle being a full time starter/star) and that he was hurt they didn't tell him about the deal beforehand pretty much shows what he is all about. Compare that to Pau's comments, which were basically "It's a business. I just got to get back to work and play hard."
Jew Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Bumping this... Â It's almost playoff time: who do you have?
Sir Clinksalot Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Who I hope wins (since the Lakers/Clippers won't): Thunder Who I think is going to win: Heat  Lakers showed tonight that they don't have it this year.  I'm hoping the Clippers can at least get in the 2nd round. That'd be nice.
Hilltopper39 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 ^ Should be interesting to see what kind of suspension he gets in comparison to the 5 games Bynum got last year for his foul on Barea. The fouls were fairly similar in nature but with Artest's history and the timing before the playoffs I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a few more games.
BeemerBoy Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 That Artest shot was brutal. Whatever he gets, I'd tack on an additional 20 games just for the ironic hypocrisy regarding his idiotic name change. Â Effing moron. Â It's almost playoff time: who do you have? I got it as a toss up...Miami or Seattle, with San Antonio as the dark horse.
Hilltopper39 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Yeah, it was brutal but Bynum's was arguably more brutal. The Artest play was so weird, the first 2 or 3 times i watched the replay it happened so quick while he was celebrating that it almost looked unintentional even though there's no way that it was. They may wait to see how bad Harden's injury is before they announce his suspension. Â But i agree with adding an extra 20 games just on the account of his idiotic name, that guy is a nut job.
mcjaco Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I almost hit Ron Artest with my car when he was on the Bulls. Walked right across the street in front of me on his way to the Berto Center (Bulls practice facility). He had a grey Bulls hoodie on. Â Had to slam on the brakes (it's 40 mph there), and he just looked at me, flicked me off, and kept going.
Hilltopper39 Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Looks like Artest gets a 7 game suspension, should have been 50 but 6 playoff games is fairly significant. What's everyone's predictions for the playoffs? I still like Miami in the East but wouldn't be surprised one bit if Chicago, or Boston found a way to make the finals. Also wouldn't be shocked if New York found a way to beat Miami in the first round. Â The West, no clue, I could see any of the top 5 teams making the finals. Looking forward to the Lakers OKC match up in the second round, should be an intense series. Â I'd also love to see Orlando make a miracle run deep into the playoffs without Dwight Howard behind the excellent coaching of Stan Van Gundy just completely screw the situation up more than it already is. Â For my finals predictions 'd like to see Boston vs LA one more time, but I'll predict Miami vs OKC in the finals.
BeemerBoy Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 David Stern is no Roger Goodell.....and that's a shame.
Ed Farmer Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I almost hit Ron Artest with my car when he was on the Bulls. Walked right across the street in front of me on his way to the Berto Center (Bulls practice facility). He had a grey Bulls hoodie on. Had to slam on the brakes (it's 40 mph there), and he just looked at me, flicked me off, and kept going.  The best Artest story (and there are many) is how during his rookie year on the Bulls, he applied to Circuit City so he could get the employee discount. It really doesn't get any better than that.  Speaking of the Bulls- basketball in the city of Chicago died yesterday. What an absolute nightmare for everyone involved. Rose will come back from this, but he'll never have that extra gear that separated him from everyone else. It's still sinking in. There was so much hype about this team going into Saturday, and it's entirely gone. Miami/Chicago in the Eastern Conference Finals was supposed to be legendary. The Bulls are still good enough to perhaps make it there, but it will be over before it even begins. I don't think I'll be able to stomach watching another second of basketball until next season comes around.   Wow. Best case scenario is 9 months away from the game.
