Shameless plugs for the TPR Park Index should come first.

Shameless Plug

I went out of my way to see it last year, and I rather liked it. There were a few areas that seemed a bit neglected or unfinished. But, on balance, it was a very pretty park with some okay rides.

Though it's hardly a surprise, it's still unfortunate that it has to go.

You know...the Starliner would fit perfectly at Old Town in the spot where the Dragsters once were....

(Old Town...are you listening?)

Then again, I'm convinced that ride is cursed. And as cheesy as Old Town is, I kind of like the quirky feel of that park. I won't miss Cypress Gardens, but I'd miss wandering through Old Town fearing for my life from the Kissimmee locals!

Ah, I love the random flavored popcorn store, the bars, and the carnival rides... Gotta love old town. Starliner would be a nice little addition down there.

As much as I hated the park when I visited, I am very sad when any park closes. It just seems like the world is forgetting about the rides and going off to go to the water park. This is why I am worried when any park starts taking out big rides, or even forgetting about the rides, and just focusing on the water parks.

Hard Rock and Cypress in basically the same week!!!! I never thought I could be so happy over two parks closing!!!!

Amazing.

this is a textbook example of schaden freude

Isn't learning fun kids?

Its really not a loss though for the theme park community or the local community because if it was really welcomed then it would not have closed.. THere was no market for it, crappy or poorly planned parks die and all the others live on.

The next time I'm at Old Town, I definitely wanna check out the haunted house, even it is more than ten bucks a pop. I guess that would be the most logical place for Starliner to end up. Heck, Disney should buy it and put in Chester and Hester's Dinorama at Animal Kingdom. What would be a better fit than an old Florida coaster like Starliner?

We think it's a shame. We managed a visit to Cypress Gardens a few months ago as we were travelling between Orlando and Tampa and my daughter (7 1/2) loved it. With lots of kiddie rides and most stuff walk-on, she was well pleased. The park was depressingly empty, though, especially considering it was a Saturday. We got to stay in our seats multiple times for both woodies.

Interestingly, my daughter was adamant that she preferred Cypress Gardens to Busch Gardens Africa as she found much less to do at BGA. (Not an opinion held by me.)

Wow its been awhile... but hey, the park closes on my birthday!!! lol. I am actually surprised this hasn't happened a long time ago. Everyday I drive by theres barely even 20 cars in the parking lot...

I don't really know how well a reinvention of the park is going to take for it to actually succeed. It might have potential if its done right, but there is A lot (A LOT) of work that needs to be done for anything spectacular to happen there. And while I would hate to see it close down permanently, I just don't know if it's going to be possible for this to be done well enough for people to keep coming back, instead of a "one time we've seen it, lets go" kind of things.

Yeah, except that if the economy tanks, then the market for parks as a whole, good and bad, dries up. I didn't hear people endlessly rail on Celebration City and that didn't seem to help it out at all. Its gonna be an unholy shock to some when a number of the bigger name parks out there start to board up in a year or two instead of just the smaller locally owned facilities.

Lets see, on that list, you can include Elitch Garens for sure.....several six flags parks(wont name them though), Frontier City perhaps.....Darien Lake perhaps.....a few of the smaller Texas parks(Wonderland is a prime example)....Alabama Adventure, maybe.....it is sad though, its awful to see any of them go....however, with Cypress Gardens, their fate was doomed when they were originally hit by the 3 hurricanes a few years back.....it was not in the cards for that park to survive.....

One person says it's a dump, another says it's beautiful. One person says they hate it, another says they love it. Sounds like just my kind of place!

lol, very true, pretty funny spectrum of opinions in this thread.

I thought it was nice when I visited because it was essentially a bunch of moderately fun rides on one side with no wait and nice employees. Then the other side was just flat out beautiful and you could spend hours wandering around back there.

The highlight was getting the fiesta express credit with the whole train to myself. Between the op lol'ing at me, and my dad taking plenty of pictures of me being a credit whore it was really fantastic. haha.
