Sunfire Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 For anyone planning to go to Great America, Invertigo is going to be closed for a while. I work at the ride, and it has been down since Monday. The ride is experiencing loads of mechanical problems (Vekoma...What a surprise), and maintainence will be working to get it up as soon as possible. I will update you guys as soon as there is progress. Sorry for the inconvience.
Angry_Gumball Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 That blows...maybe they'll have it back up by the 24th (my next CGA visit)? Only 1 can hope...
Tmcdllr Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 That is too bad. *start rant* Vekoma what a surprise? Actually ANY ride from ANY manufacturer has just as much of a chance as a Vekoma does for experiencing major mechanical problems and being down for a lengthy period of time. (Remember the lift on X being down for months? Or the lift chain sprocket breaking on Goliath. I'd say that was pretty major to name just a few. And those are not Vekomas). Typical Vekoma bashing, and you work at that ride....that's funny. *end rant* I do hope it is up soon as it is my 2nd favorite ride there and thanks for the information.
Sunfire Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 ^Yeah, you're right (and you double posted). Besides, I do see the ride every day, and all rides have downtime sooner or later.
thrillgeek Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 That's why it was down both days I was there on Weds and Thurs!! Now it all makes since. Thanks for letting us no. Oh and on a side note it seemed Drop Zone was experiencing some problems of it's own. One car kept getting stuck at the top with people on it.
Mr.Six Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Its completely unacceptable for rides to go down. Completely. -Mike

Good point as when I was at KD last month Dominator went down a few times(so much for the myth that B&M's are 100% reliable 100% of the time) but in the case of vekoma's rides it could be a case of under engineering on their part that makes some of their rides less reliable. Anyone know what the exact problem is with invertigo? I hope it's not stranding passengers on the lift like a certain invertigo in MD that we know of.
SFAfan#1 Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 ^Don't forget spraying people in the face with hot hydraulic fluid
Sunfire Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 No, it didn't stall on the lift. But some parts on the train need to be replaced and the ride will stay closed until they are. So if you're planning on going to CGA, and you want the Invertigo credit, wait a little longer. BTW, I've heard that CGA's Invertigo is one of the smoothest Vekomas. Is that true? It's the only Vekoma I've been on (other than Boomerang at SFDK and the late Stealth), and I think it's pretty bearable.

Of all the Vekomas I rode, Invertigo was the smoothest. I never rode Stealth, just Invertigo, Boomerang (Both KBF and SFDK) and Kong...oh, and maybe Gadget's Go Coaster at Disneyland.
Tmcdllr Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Maintenance at CGA is top notch if the appearance of the park is any indication and extended downtimes there are rare. I have every confidence that if it is possible they will have it back up very soon. Plus they seem to be on top of maintenance more than some other parks and my guess is it is something unusual that happened. I still would like to know what caused it to go down.
italianpnoy112 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Hm I might be heading to CGA October, during my school's Key Club Fall Rally. Would you say the ride would be up by then? I'd be surprised if it was still down 2 months later since it's one of the few rides there that doesn't suck.
CHILLERLC1 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I was able to take Two Face and CGA's original Invertigo easier than the one at KI. The invertigos are probably Vekoma's best boomerang. I'd rather do them inverted.
Sunfire Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 ^^Yeah, it'll be open by October. In fact, it should be up around Labor Day, but I couldn't give you an exact date. I'll let you guys know if there's any more info.

(Angry_Gumball) Don't forget, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a Vekoma, too, and it's pretty smooth if you ask me. As SLCs go, I've only ridden Kong at SFDK, and I really didn't have any problem with it. And I rode it anticipating such because I'd heard the horror stories about those rides. I last rode Invertigo in 1999 and found it to be rather smooth and enjoyable. But like almost anything mechanical, downtime will occur. Stealth came and went before I could get to it, but from what I've heard, I really didn't miss much. Eric
Mechanic Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Isn't Disneyland's Space Mountain also a Vekoma?

So many memories at Fall Rally South at SFMM!
odie Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Oh, so this is why it was closed Well, the lights still looked cool!
linearinduction Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 No, it didn't stall on the lift. But some parts on the train need to be replaced and the ride will stay closed until they are.Stress Fractures in the Bogies/Wheel Housings?
Angry_Gumball Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 A dream told me last night that Invertigo was up and running when I went to CGA visit that I'm doing this Sunday. Doubt the dream meant anything other than being a coaster nerd...
okinawaboy11 Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I wonder if it suffers from the same problem as Two Face at SFA? Why is it that these Invertigo models have good uptime but when they finally break, its for some extremely unnecessary long time? I was talking to an employee at SFA asking when Two Face would be running again. I joked "If ever?" he laughed and replied "actually not at all this season."
Angry_Gumball Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 So yea, I heard it's down because of tomatoes...(tomatoes being an answer to a question that has no real answer.) My friend sat on the hillside next to demon, as we rode demon, visioning riding Invertigo. But yea...it was a shame that it was down yesterday on our visit, as well as the rest of you guys who went during it's downtime.
