mp27
I went to Six Flags the other day. I finally got to ride El Toro and Kingda Ka. I have to say that El Toro is slightly better overall than Kingda Ka. Kingda Ka is awesome. It has the speed and the height, but there is something about El Toro that edges it out. Perhaps it is the first drop. The first drop on El Toro is actually worse (in a good way) than the one on Kingda Ka. The airtime is unbelievable. Also, El Toro is just relentless. It does not stop from beginning to end. You can't even judge the speed and airtime by the videos on the net. The ride is tame compared to how it really feels once you are on it. I have to say after riding all of the coasters at Great Adventure, El Toro is the best.
MisterP
IMO, El Toro is at least 10 times better than KK, and I think KK is really fun....
downunder
I thought El Toro was unbelievable, the first drop and the 3 other monster airtime spots were amazing, the rest of the ride paled in comparison to those elements though but the rest was still very good. Â Out of the 203 coasters I have been on so far ET is #2 behind ROS at SFNE, though I will be riding both within a day of each other in August so I can really compare them (rather than riding them a year apart), and I'm thinking ET might go up a spot. No other coaster I have been on comes close to those two IMO.
mp27
I have to add that the drop right before the twister section is insane. Talk about airtime.
ginzo
I have to add that the drop right before the twister section is insane. Talk about airtime. Â Yep, that's a vicious drop. Voyage ain't got nothing on that.
downunder
That crossover hill is such a surprise element too, really catches people unaware if they haven't been on ET before. Â As far as the Voyage goes, I thought it had qauntity but nowhere near the quality of El Toro, still a really good coaster though.
ginzo
That crossover hill is such a surprise element too, really catches people unaware if they haven't been on ET before. As far as the Voyage goes, I thought it had qauntity but nowhere near the quality of El Toro, still a really good coaster though.  I loved Voyage at first, but thought that the quality quickly went down, even in the first season. I've had amazing rides on Voyage, but more mediocre rides and even a few bad rides. I also think that the airtime on it is greatly overstated: A lot of the hills feel dead to me. downunder
^I don't think I actually got a great ride on Voyage, I rode it 11 times on a day in August but I was stupid and didn't grab any night rides - I have to admit I had grown a bit tired of the pounding I was copping in the turnaround. So I don't think I have ridden Voyage at it's best. Â It was like that with Hades except I did get a ride when it was at it's best, I had a night ride near the the back that was unbelievable but the next morning it was pretty average. Â Back to El Toro, that seems to be consistently good in my experience, and I haven't personally seen any reports to the contrary.
Airtime&Gravity
Congratulations on finally riding what could be considered the world's best wooden coaster. Â El Toro is simply amazing, and while Kingda Ka is a lot of fun, El Toro is many times better. The airtime is incredible, but the ride is so intense, that I found it hard to ride it multiple times in a row. On the other hand, I found Kingda Ka re-ridable, but it could not compare to how awesome El Toro is. Kingda Ka is still a really good coaster though as the launch is amazing, and the view on top is unforgettable. My only complaint about Kingda Ka is the lack of airtime. mp27
You're right about the lack of airtime on Kingda Ka. I rode El Toro before I rode Kingda Ka, and I thought to myself, El Toro's drop is less than half the size of Kingda Ka's drop so how will I even survive it. But honestly, El Toro's drop felt longer, steeper and scarier since my whole body lifted off of the seat. It was just absolutely amazing. Also, the inclines of those hills are so steep that the transition between going up, over and down at such a rapid pace makes the airtime so much more intense. almightyfire
El Toro is just wonderful but I enjoyed Nitro 2nd before Kingda Ka. King is too short. I don't understand why they just didnt make it a regular coaster after the first hill. It is too short to stand inline for over 2 hrs. Â ADMIN EDIT: Unbolded. No need. downunder
^You and me both, I wish the big rocket coasters had more to them after the launch and top hat like a series of airtime hills and some overbanks. Â But I guess they spent so much on what is there already, they weren't prepared to blow an extra $5-10 million on some more track doing something that has been done before on other coasters. FeelTheFORCE
Yep, great ride. Just rode it, myself, for the first time about 2 weeks ago.
ElToroGirl84
One thing about el toro that really made it my favorite and blew me away was not only the drops but the fast turns. I've not ridden many coasters but those turns were amazing and along with a lot of surprise drops I wasn't expecting it was just overall exciting and fun in every way possible. There is so much more that this coaster offers besides airtime, which it seems to do the best as well. Â While kingda ka was tall and fast I certainly got what I was expecting which when it comes to thrill rides tends to be a bit disappointing. I'm hoping re-rides will change my mind on it though but I refuse to wait more than 30 or 40 minutes for it again.
Looty
I can honestly say that out of the 250 coasters that I've been on, El Toro is the best. I really don't see how it isn't ranked number 1! It provides the best ride experience. I would think Six Flags would want to build more Intamin woodies.
Josh Linn
Like I said in another thread, I thought I was going to be hard pressed to be able to ride a woodie better than Phoenix, but El Toro proved me wrong. It was absolutely insane.
