I think this ended up being the fastest three days of my life, the six hour drive back to pa felt much longer then the entire trip itself. The longest waits were 10-15 minutes even with two train operation on most of the coasters. We got three rides on alpie on Thursday night without getting off, until the op decided to only allow two rerides at a time.

I'll leave you with my attempt at an artsy shot. Thanks for reading.

The girl working the control booth near the geysers started to plead with the kid not to jump, but he decided to jump the fence anyway and she hit the E-Stop and here's what happened.

While I was snapping some shots of Roman Rapids some kid decided to jump the fence and attempt to go for a swim.

Even Griffon's mid course is higher then Nessie.

Festhaus is just plain awesome. If you come out of here hungry it's your own fault.

I love the way this ride is themed.

I don't know if they normally do this, but they were heavily breaking Alpengeist at the stop of the first drop.

My favorite element on Alpengeist.

I really liked the grey wolf show and how the trainers got all the wolves to howl.

Sheesh! What a knucklehead that kid was. I've never seen them e-stop the rapids before. (The kid's lucky that the op was fast on the draw--he could've been drowned or seriously hurt.)

Posted

What was funny was that the kid's friends were about twenty feet away yelling for him to get out of there, that's when he jumped back over the fence and they all ran away as fast as they could. I wonder if those kids thought they were going to get away, considering there is only one way out of the park.

One thing I thought was odd was that after rapids stopped, they had to evacuate the rafts using a series of platforms and ladders, I would just have assumed they could have gotten it running normally again.

Posted

^Well they could of just started it up again...But that would have been easy! Well at least they were concerned about the idiot that jumped in...If it would of happened at a Cedar Fair park they would have not stopped the ride at all!

I think restarting the current of the rapids when the channel was completely empty wouldn't have worked with the stacked boats and rising water levels...

Stupid kid though... Could've been another Darwin award... Will probably get one if he's that dim...

Kudos to the ride op for doing her job! Why can't I ever see stuff like this happen? I would've chased that kid down in a heartbeat had I seen him do it.

Anyway, thanks for the report. Nice work showing something we rarely see.

I've seen them E-stop Popeye and Bluto's due to something similar.

Here's a neat fact, it takes about 45min to an hour to get the entire canal filled with water.

They probably evacuated them because of this... they didn't want the passengers sitting in the boats while the canal was filling because there could be a mishap.

Great trip report though. Alpengiest had that stupid trim turned on when I was there last year as well. But the mid course was turned off not complaining either.

Very eerie and cool night time Griffon sign shot.

Not smart for the kid to jump in Roman Rapids, and good job ride op.

You know, curious things seem to happen around that particular rapids. During my trip last year, some random girl flashed me while I was taking pictures. Ahhhh, what great memories...

please tell me you got a pic of that .

ha, there's some really nice alpie shots there. Sounds like a great time.

Lol! Yes, I did, however, the shot's at a distance, and though you can

see what she's doing, you can't see much detail due to the lighting.

At the time, when the boat went by, she smiled at me and was adjusting

her bikini top. I thought nothing of it. It wasn't until I got home a

couple days later, that I realized what happened...and roared!

Back to the topic at hand, it seemed like Alpie's MCBR was on moderatly

during last years visit. The train slowed quite a bit there, but seemed

to pace well through the rest of the course. Dunno if that helps any, but it's an outside observation.

Great TR. Interesting to see a rapids ride E-stopped. To bad you didn't get any pics of that kid being an idiot though .

Why can't something like that ever happen to me at theme parks...?

Having Operated and been a Supervisor on Rattlesnake Rapids at Lagoon, an Intamin River Rapids Ride, I highly doubt it would take 45 Minutes to Fill the Trough. RSR is 1/3 of a Mile long, drops 60ft, has three 256,000 Horsepower Pumps capable of pumping 106,000 Gallons a Minute, has a Capacity of 1.2 Million Gallons of Water, and can Fill Up to the correct Water Level in 5 Minutes. If a Boat/Raft gets stuck on a Weir (Pipe or Object that creates the Rapid), it is possible for the first surge of water to capsize a Boat/Raft. It's much safer to evacuate the ride than risk someone being injured. I also like the Rails in that Lake that keep the Boats elevated from the bottom of the trough.
