PKI Jizzman Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Wonderpark has pulled out of the very popular and growing Cincinnati Mills mall. Very surprising to me! But boy did they go out with a bang! http://www.wcpo.com/content/news/fresh/story.aspx?content_id=9997BAF8-D912-4D63-8F62-7B5769FDC519&gsa=true Another business has pulled out of the Cincinnati Mills mall and some parents say they've lost money. They say they booked their children's birthday parties at the Wonderpark, but they got an unwanted surprise when they showed up for the big day. Two families tell 9News they gave Wonderpark money when they scheduled their children's birthday parties. But when they came to the indoor entertainment center inside the mall to celebrate, they found the business was shut down. Kailey Rowe showed 9News the gifts she received for her fifth birthday. The party didn't go as planned though. When her family and nine friends showed up for the Wonderpark party Sunday afternoon the store gate was down – the windows were painted black. "She's crying, 'I want to go to Wonderpark,'" said Lori Rowe, of Miamitown. "Had it all planned. All the other kids, I thought we was going to play, 'cause of course, kids don't understand. "Everybody's standing in the hallway. The doors are locked, everybody's confused. There's no where to go," said Mike Held, of Miamitown. Wonderpark was recently in the news when an employee, Armando Rivera, was arrested. Police say he paid teenagers to make sex videos. Lori Rowe says she paid $33 to save the date for her daughter's party. Another Mom tells 9News she put down $230. The people who run Wonderpark were shocked that the parents didn't get the message that they were closed. "To our knowledge, everybody who had reservations, we notified them," said Billy Warr, of Namco Cybertainment. "If we knew they had a reservation, those that made deposits by credit card, we've already refunded them," said Warr. "And we think there were three that made payment in cash." "We actually have money orders that will be mailed out today or tomorrow," Warr said. Wonderpark managers say the reason they closed is simple. The lease was up and they weren't making any money. This makes for another vacancy in the mall that developers were hoping would become a destination. Hopefully there will be a new park in the future. It used to be "Forest Fair Mall" and they had quite a few attractions if I remember correctly. Where will Boa Squeeze go?

RIP Psyclone Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Sad, sad news, Jay-Z. Who didn't get their credit? Me.
Reon Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 That sucks. I love mall parks, and I remember going there once. Not the best place ever, but they had a credit and bumper cars....
YoshiFan Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 There was a huge family indoor entertainment area about 2 minutes down the road from Sesame Place. They had some kiddie flats, bumper cars, batting cages and all other stuff and did the exact same thing. People showed up for birthday parties one day and the place had shut down in the middle of the night with no notice. I feel bad for the kids that had parties planned Also nice of their website to not even mention they are closed: http://www.wonderparkusa.com/main.asp I guess they don't care if people just decide to show up and find out it is closed (and if the website lists the hours, I wouldn't think someone would think to call to find out if they are still open)
SharkTums Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 These little kiddie coasters seem to have a knack for finding new owners pretty quickly. That being said, I have my credit!
PKI Jizzman Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 These little kiddie coasters seem to have a knack for finding new owners pretty quickly. That being said, I have my credit! The new "Kid's Palace" in the Tri-County mall, a few miles away, is a new small theme park. Maybe they will be interested, I think it would be great for that place; adding onto the go-carts, a Moser drop ride, and a few others.
Reon Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Yeah. I remember hearing about that on KIC. I haven't been back in Cincy since it was mentioned, but I'll check it out next time I come back. Hopefully they'll get the coaster and dodgems.
coaster05 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I got my credit after spending a day at Strickers. Woo Hoo!
jamesdillaman Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Seriously, I saw this coming a while ago. The park's atmosphere has gotten more "run-down" over the past few years, and few new attractions (namely video-games) have appeared. You know they were in trouble when you were there on a weekend and the place was nearly empty. -James Dillaman
