First of all, +1 for using a John Cleese gif.

 

But yeah, different strokes for different folks and all that. Mack's was a little too much on the greasy side, and Sam's basically gave me my slices the moment I asked for them ("OMG, it's like you guys were WAITING for ME!"), plus they're a stone's throw from Nor'easter, so I could enjoy the view while cramming pizza into my face; my favorite pastime.

 

By the way, thanks for recommending some of those other places. Lime Ricky's was the shiznit. Also, I don't know what you make of Harry's Corner, but their lamb gyro was ON POINT.

 

Do they still scan you with a metal detector before letting you on the ride?

They do. Thank hell they provide |ockers for a half hour gratis. Just don't be an idiot like me and forget about the sunglasses right there on your stupid face. I closed my |ocker ready to ride, suddenly remembered I was wearing my shades, had to go through the process of opening my |ocker back up, all while feeling like the dumbest sentient being in the universe.

Yes. As much as I abhor being wanded like I'm in an airport before boarding TGNE, just remember the ride is literally built right over top of a waterpark. Slides, lazy river, the whole shebang. I totally get why they do it, and the lockers are in fact free.

It's annoying since I always wear cargo shorts to parks, but as long as it's free I don't have an issue with it since that shows it's truly for safety. It's when parks charge money for the mandatory lockers (like another park in NJ) that bothers me.

Great Nor'Easter was quite good. The ride was noticeably smoother than the other SLCs and I loved how it interacted with the flume and slides. I would still take any B&M invert over Nor'Easter but this one is a good ride now.

Can confirm Nor'easter is practically a new coaster. Color me impressed. Got a ride last night and then a few more today to make sure I wasn't just drunk and crazy last night (I was, but the ride was great today too). My only complaint is that there is a very noticeable jolt coming out of the inline twist, but otherwise it's smooth as new. Kinda mindblowing tbh. It even had waits last night and today, first time in a decade when they got the new trains have I seen that. Also, I know I saw the paintjob when I was down last month but I really, really love the gradient shades of blue. It looks fantastic walking toward the pier on the boardwalk from either direction. Like a giant wave.

 

Sorry we couldn't link up @Canobie Coaster, most of my evening Saturday was spent chasing my nephew around doing rides he wanted, which was good fun actually because he could ride a bunch this year he hadn't been able to yet. I only got to sneak away for a couple quick big boy rides lol.

 

Still the best ride on the the island, and honestly the best ride in the state of New Jersey not named El Toro.

I'll post more about the weekend tomorrow. Just got home and need to unwind and go to bed.

Just rode the nor Easter last night. It's scary how smooth it is. Two jolts, one at top of sidewinder and one coming out of the last twist, but I think that's due to space limitations. With the vests, the jolts are nothing to worry about.

 

I also noticed the gaps between the wheels and tracks are way smaller. Up stop wheels were spinning same time as the road wheels. I'm thinking the newer track allowed for smaller gaps between wheels and track.

 

The ride is super enjoyable and very re-rideable. I was skeptical, but Moreys and Vekoma nailed this.

So as mentioned the other day I did get down to Wildwood over the weekend and can happily chime in with the chorus of positive reviews for the NEW Great Nor'easter. My original plan for Saturday was to get up at the ass crack of dawn to take a bunch of buses and trains from Philly down through Atlantic City to Ocean City and hit up Playland's Castaway Cove for a first ride on Gale Force, before continuing on to Wildwood where all my immediate family was in town for Fathers Day weekend.

 

However, upon my alarm going off @ 5:30am Saturday I checked the weather for Ocean City and it was thunderstorms for the few hours in the afternoon that I'd be there. I didn't feel like doing all of that to risk them not running the ride so I just headed straight down to Wildwood, as even without rides, I would still get to hang with the fam. So, Gale Force will have to wait, for now.

 

So once I got in town and had some drinks and a bite, the whole family headed up to the boardwalk Saturday night so we could take my (almost) 4 year old nephew on a bunch of rides. He just hit 43 inches so he was able to get on a few bigger rides (much to my sisters motherly hesitation) that he hasn't before. The kid loves rides, and especially enjoyed his first ride on the piers "Riptide", a Chance swinging ship. Of course we sat him between us and toward the middle rows, but he absolutely loved it, and proclaimed halfway through that the ride "tickles his wiener"! LOL! We did get him on his first Tilt-A-Whirl ride which we agreed might be the first ride ever he stated did not like. I'd hoped to get him on the "Doo Wopper" mouse (he's done the "Flitzer" last year and loved it) but the line for DW was a good 20+ minutes and patience is not something 4 year olds have a lot of.

 

Once he got tuckered out, my bro-in-law Tom and I stayed up on the boardwalk, had a few beers, and got on just a few of the larger rides. We almost linked up with Canobie Coaster, but just missed him @ "Nor'easter". Bummer!

 

Sunday afternoon I met up w/ my buddy Joey who is living in Wildwood for the summer and working @ Morey's - mostly in the "Ghost Ship", but he's also been trained on "Rollies Coaster" and "Pirates of Wildwood". His friend joined us for some rides. I'm not doing a big detailed report, but here's a bunch of pictures from Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

 

Adventure Pier. We got a late night ride on TGW and it was running well!

Mother of god these were good. Go early, there was an healthy line @ 8am. Prepare to wait, they make em fresh.

At noon I met up with my buddy Joey on Mariners, who is working @ Morey's Ghost Ship this summer.

Apparently everyone rides bikes to the waterpark.

I'll say it again - Nor'easter is ridiculously smooth.

I mean its still an SLC, but my mind was blown after my shitty rides the last couple of years.

Of course we had to take a drop on Atmosfear.

The aforementioned Doo Wopper. Didn't ride, I've already caught that show.

We took a spin on the flyers. Kudos to the op - he let us snap a bit.

You know I had to stop (this was stop number 2 - I had a slice Saturday night too!)

We took the tram down to Adventure Pier to get some rides in on TGW and Screaming Swing before they headed into work and I headed back to my folks for Sunday night dinner.

 

Overall a great little getaway. Sorry the report is lame, I'll have a REALLY AWESOME report coming soon. You'll just have to wait for it.

Damn, Im going to do my best to get down there this summer and ride Nor'Easter. Every ride I've had on it the past decade was a car crash.

 

Atmosphere is terrifying, all Larson ARMS are.

Yeah, that sucked. We hung around the lockers for a minute once we got back there and then said screw it and threw our stuff in one and jumped on. We actually had a little wait for the last row. Once we got off we looked around again for ya and then got our stuff and started walking around, then your text came through once we were over @ Capt Jacks saying you were riding it! Doh!

On Sunday my family was in Wildwood and I went on some rides on the piers, mainly to try the improved Nor'Easter. It was a nice day, and surprisingly crowded considering it wasn't dark out yet. The operations were okay, but they always get much better later in the season. I mainly stuck to things that had short waits, so no It this time. Rides:

 

Zoom Phloom - Great as always. Two full-sized drops, long ride, and uses the location on the boardwalk to its full potential!

Great Nor'Easter - Middle row. Wow, I actually enjoyed it a lot! There is no rattling, and I appreciate the trains now that the track itself is smooth. The only rough part is one bad bump right before the last few turns. It's not B&M smooth, but that's more of the design of the ride. There's a noticeably sharp change in forces when you go into an element, but there's no pain. The smoothness is comparable to something like Steel Force I guess. The sidewinder is the highlight of the ride. Due to its forcefulness, that's the closest it gets to feeling like a B&M invert. The best part is the location, which once again, I can actually pay attention to now. The way it narrowly dodges the flume and flies above the water park and pier, along with the views of the beach makes it feel like a 100% custom-made ride, and it's very surreal, almost like something I'd come up with in a dream. So now that this coaster is awesome, I can safely say that Surfside is the best pier, even though the star attraction is on Adventure Pier. My sister who's never been on it before likes it too.

Kong - No snapping (they wouldn't allow it anyway), but my flyer nearly turned backwards because of the wind multiple times! Not too thrilling, but very weird, since that never happened before. It felt like an extra-windy ride on New England Sky Screamer because of how the flyers rotated.

AtmosFEAR - Facing the beach. Still fantastic.

Great White x 2 - Back row once for more airtime, front row once for great laterals. Such a well-rounded coaster. Can't wait for midnight ERT this August!

^ I know what you mean on Great Nor'Easter. Some of those transitions are aggressive but with the improved track they aren't painful. I wouldn't quite compare it to Steel Force though in terms of smoothness. While Steel Force gets ratted on a lot on these boards, smoothness is one thing that ride has going for it.

Look, I know I'm the resident Moreys nut around here but I must tell you that Moreys is not about credits, its not even about the coasters. If you drive all the way down to Wildwood to run around and get the coaster credits in an hour (which not to mention is not really even possible unless you're driving between the piers which is just dumb) you're doing Wildwood all wrong.

 

Please do not waste one of those Golden Tickets on a two hour credit run. I mean, you get free water park access with those tickets! Plan for at least a full afternoon, if not a full day. There is so much to do. Many people will agree with me that Moreys is fantastic at night. Take a ride on the Giant Wheel and look out over the ocean. Do one of the waterparks. Ride some great flats - the flume, IT, the flyers, Atmosfear, Riptide, the sh*tty dark rides! The Great White is exceptional (IMO) while the other five coasters are fun but a little average.

 

Wildwood is about great flats, boardwalk food, long bumpy rides on the tram car. Wildwood is about cheesy doo-wop themeing, amazing light packages, and a fantastic boardwalk lining a great big free beach next to the wide open Atlantic Ocean. Wildwood is about the smell of pizza-taffy-funnel-cake-french fries, seagulls trying to steal your ice cream, people watching half naked Jersey shore rejects trudging down the sand. And yes, there are some coasters to ride. But one does not simply visit Wildwood as a credit stop.

 

And if you do wind up stopping in for a credit run, make sure to check the calendar as the three piers operating hours are different and could screw that all up for you if you show up first thing in the morning. And for the love of god - eat something on the boardwalk!

^ What he said. Most of the best rides in Wildwood aren't even coasters... I honestly prefer It and Zoom Phloom to any coasters there. Morey's is way more about non coaster rides and the cool shit on the boardwalk between piers.

If you have free tickets to Morey's, christ, use 'em all up. One day bands are really expensive IIRC and there's so much to see and do and the hours are LONG. LONG LONG LONG LONG. Like to 12AM long on Saturday nights (with those being soft times: if its bumping, they might still run rides past that). Do 40 rides. Do 60 rides. Don't run in and leave. Don't be that guy. That guy isn't cool. He's not fun.

Looks like I'm finally going to get to Morey's this year! Right now, my plans are looking like I'll be taking a long weekend, second weekend in August, driving down there early saturday morning (4-5 hours for me depending on traffic) to get there with a few friends not too far after noon. I figure I'll have the day to do the dry stuff, stay the night somewhere nearby, and in the morning do half a day or so at the waterparks. Sunday evening I'll be off to Knoebels campground from there.

 

So, does that sound reasonable, a full day for the coasters and flats, and a half a day for the waterparks on a weekend mid summer? I've read that crowds aren't generally a huge problem but it's just about peak season, so...

 

Not going to ask if there are any must-do rides, I know the basics and I'm pretty much only happy if I do everything anyway, but how about food? Anything I absolutely have to try while I'm there? (The Fractured Prune looks like a can't miss, already!)
