alilstronger Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Wow I must say I'm surprised by the number of people who don't like Tom Cruise. He may not be one of my favorite actors but I've got nothing against him, specially after these last movies. I've never liked any movie I've seen with him in it. But than again I do not like action movies and that is what he predominantly does. His acting just does not stand out to me as good at all and to me he is rarely believable. But that is my personal opinion.
jray21 Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 ^I don't like Tom Cruise either, but he's surprisingly not annoying in this. To be fair, it's obviously that something is "not right" from the beginning of the movie, but they did a decent job of structuring it to keep it interesting. It's not the greatest movie ever or anything, but it was a LOT better than I thought it was going to be. Plus it was awesomely loud in IMAX! dt Amy and I just got back from it and we liked it quite a bit. I generally don't like him either, and agree that he wasn't too annoying.
azza29 Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 ^I love that "he's not too annoying" is considered a compliment for Tom Cruise.
jray21 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 For me, the pinnacle of him being annoying was Knight and Day.
cfc Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) ^I love that "he's not too annoying" is considered a compliment for Tom Cruise. "Well, at least he didn't make me want to set fire to the theatre this time." Edited April 26, 2013 by cfc
cfc Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Just finished watching the original Italian Job, a caper flick from 1969 with Michael Caine, Noel Coward, and Benny Hill (playing a perverted old guy--what else?). It's definitely a product of its time (I kept waiting for Austin Powers and Dr. Evil to show up), but that just adds to the fun. The remake with Mark Wahlberg is a pretty fair updating of it.
Double0Kevin Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 So back to Oblivion, I saw it today. I thought it was great! It was a fun film with some decent twists that kept you guessing. I had a total nerd moment when the King Slayer walked into the room. As far as Tom Cruise goes, I don't care about the guy as long as the movie is good.
jray21 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Saw 42 last night. I really liked the movie and thought they did a great job. I didn't like Harrison Ford in it that much though. It seemed like he was trying to act way too hard.
molemaster43 Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Saw Iron Man 3 and watched Zero Dark Thirty yesterday Iron Man 3: Amazing special effects and an amazing story. This is one of Marvel's best and I believe this is much better than its predecessors, which are still solid. 9/10 PS: I agree with Azza with staying after the credits. Hilarious. Zero Dark Thirty: Somewhat slow and uninteresting, but the last 45 minutes were amazing. 7/10
_IntaMAN_ Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Just saw IRON MAN 3, it was ok. I was kind of dissapointed since it didn't live up to my expectations, especially when the real villain isn't even Mandarin, really didn't stay true to the comics. Everything else such as the storyline was ok, not the best Iron Man but still could've been worse. 7.5/10 Looking forward to Avengers 2 and Thor. Next in the lineup: THE GREAT GATSBY STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS FAST AND FURIOUS 6
alilstronger Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I gave Evil dead a shot. I have never seen the original so I was not sure what to expect. What drew me in were the ads that stated this will be the most terrifying movie you've ever seen. Well i hate to say but it was not the scariest I've ever seen, one of the most gory yes but not most scary. I did like the story though and I think they did an amazing job with the special effects and make up. Would I buy it no, would I watch it again... yes!
Meteornotes Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Loved Iron Man 3. Much better than the second, and is easily as good as the first one. My only complaint is the IMAX theater should have been louder, as I could not actually feel the bones in my skull moving around from the extreme volume like I normally do. dt
cfc Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) ^I like how they handled the Mandarin--"Fu Manchu" Oriental stereotypes are rather frowned on nowadays, and they came up with an interesting solution. Edited May 6, 2013 by cfc
rcjp Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 ^Me too. Overall, I thought it was great and I particularly liked the way it had some comic scenes every now and then. Nice job!
Double0Kevin Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Forgot to post about Iron Man 3 the other day. I thought it was great. Nice to see a healthy amount of action in an Iron Man movie. I feel that was always the weak point in the other two, not enough suit/blowing stuff up time. I was a little caught off guard and not particularly happy with the Mandarin twist. I just kept expecting the twist to be a rouse by him and he ended up being what we expected. Alas, that minor qualm did not destroy the film for me (ultimately I just really liked Ben Kingsley's evil persona and wanted more of it). What did really bug me, and sorry if this is nitpicking, was the complete ease everyone suddenly had in destroying suits. The final battle had Tony going through suit after suit. What would have happened if it was like the old days and he only had one at a time? The villain would have won pretty damn easily. I think that bugged me more than the whole Mandarin thing. All in all, for action and laughs this was the best of the 3 (not including Avengers in this). For story and villain, it blew Iron Man 2 away but wasn't quite at the original's level (Jeff Bridges as Obediah Stane was one of my favorite villains of all time).
Sir Clinksalot Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 It's $5 movie Tuesday so I think we may go see Iron Man 3 tonight.
Divv3k Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I saw Star Trek Into Darkness last night and was thoroughly disappointed. Maybe casual fans will love it but all it did was infuriate me at every turn. It lacked a lot of the laughs of the previous outing as well. Iron Man 3 on the other hand, I thought was brilliant and brought the laughs in bucketloads too!
SoCalCoasters Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Saw the trailer for the Ender's Game movie. Since my friend's best friend is playing Petra I'm obligated to like it , and so far the art style and story look cannon... HOWEVER The trailer reveals one of the climaxes of the biggest battle in book, and it's a MAJOR spoiler. I'm sure not everyone has read the book, so it's disappointing they chose to include that little clip of the scene. Nevertheless I'm looking forward to seeing it in the fall. The book plays a lot with perspectives, and I hope the movie accomplishes this just as well.

The book plays a lot with perspectives, and I hope the movie accomplishes this just as well. You are not obligated to like anything you do not like. But I am someone who is extremely individualistic. I do not feel obligated to like something just because someone I call a friend likes it or is in it (I have a friend who acts in low budget movies). I hate when people are always followers and never leaders. Anyway... Saw the trailer for You're Next and Carrie (remake) and both look interesting. I have always liked the original Carrie and you can already tell from the trailer (as long as they add them things to the movie) it is a lot different from the original which I do not mind at all. I LOVE when they remake things for a new generation. You're Next looks like another awesome gory torture movie and I love them!
SoCalCoasters Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 ^It was a joke, hence the . I like the look of the movie anyway.

I'm sure not everyone has read the book, so it's disappointing they chose to include that little clip of the scene. I watched the trailer for Ender's Game and had absolutely no clue it contained a major spoiler. It's only spoiler if you point it out to those who don't know. Now I don't want to re-watch it cause I'm paranoid I'll ruin the movie for myself.
onewheeled999 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Any word on The Great Gatsby? I'm probably not going to see it, as I didn't care for the book, but I'm curious how it ended up being given the director's style.
