K2W Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 First time Poster, long time lurker... Actually, The Chain Dog is the part of the train that connects to the actual chain on the lift hill. The Anti-rollbacks are the "notches" if you will that are built into the lift track, If i'm not mistaken. I believe I also read that it will indeed have two lift chains, one that acts as the lift and one that acts as the anti-rollback unit, to catch and hold the train if a problem occurs.
knowit Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Correct., the coaster will have 2 chains. The diagrams for the ride show 2 hydraulic motors for 2 different chains, with a generator backup to power the lift system in case of an electrical interuption.
fahrenheit1315 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 where did you guys read about the two chains on the lift?
Ccron10 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 So if the power fails, the second lift will have a generator or something as back-up?
knowit Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Yes, there will be a generator as part of the back up system to operate the lifts.
fahrenheit1315 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 so no one knows why the construction is at a standstill? or what else could they be working on
knowit Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I you look closely, it seems they've connected the final banked curve to the brake run in the last day or so. It's hard to see on the the webcam
natatomic Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I gotta be honest here - the fact that the webcam isn't straight is driving me CRAZY.
knowit Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I work very close to Hershey. One day next week I'll drive by with my camera and see if I can get a few shots.
coasterfreak101 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 That last webcam shot (^^^) shows that the final curve is connected to the track and that the lift is almost complete. If you look to the left of the lift, the last piece is hooked up to a crane.
knowit Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 and don't forget that new lone support in front of the catering area.
ghost007jas Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 From what I heard, there was supposed to be a media tour and a "topping off" ceremony at the park today. So you all may see some pictures pop up on Coasterdom soon.
Sean Menefee Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I gotta be honest here - the fact that the webcam isn't straight is driving me CRAZY. Didn't even notice that till you said something. Next screen grab I'm fixing Hershey's crooked cam in CS3. Looking forward to those update photos, let us know when they get up please Ghost. -Sean
alpengeist04 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I gotta be honest here - the fact that the webcam isn't straight is driving me CRAZY. Thanks for bringing that up, It's going to drive me crazy now too.
natatomic Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 ^Misery loves company. It wouldn't be fair for me to suffer alone, now would it?
ghost007jas Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 As I mentioned last night, there was a tour that went on yesterday. Sadly due to high wind conditions they were not able to top the coaster off as planned. You can check out the whole update here. Here are a couple of the pictures you will see in this update.. Enjoy! This is my favorite picture, it gives a great look at the future station. The hard hats worn on the tour.
BeemerBoy Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I heard the webcam is crooked because Hersheypark is sinking.
natatomic Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I heard it's crooked because they're really milking this 97 degrees thing.
alpengeist04 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Ugh, I notice the slanting horizon before the coaster now.
Swimace Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 That webcam is driving me crazy! Straighten it out!!! But at least work is going pretty quickly on this. I hope the Norwegian loop/ cobra roll portion of the ride will look as good as the first part is looking. I really thought the ride was pretty ugly in the concept art, but this is turning out pretty well.
