llykstw Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I'm going on a flying visit to LA, but I'll only be there for a day or two. I want to visit a park out there, but I'm kinda spoilt for choice. Disney is out, as I've already been to Disney in Florida, Hong Kong, Paris and Tokyo and so I'd rather do something fresh. I'm not really into theming or water parks - I'm a coaster junkie. I was thinking Knotts or Six Flags out there look best?
Blazen_AZN Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Sounds to me like you definitely want to go to Six Flags. When it comes down to roller coasters, they have knotts beat out hands down.
christianscoasters Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Ummmm, obviously, if you're wanting to get all coastered-out, go to SFMM. When I was there, all coasters were open, and we got VERY lucky with Deja Vu!
Team Thriller Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Six Flags Magic Mountain was, for me, the best thrill park in the entire WEST of the Unithed States
phazan Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I would definitely go to Six Flags, as the others said...If you are just looking for coasters, I'm thinking you will like SFMM. Have fun!
ebl Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I would have said Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom because you don't know whether you'll get out alive. However, I just read that the park is now closed. But, for a serious answer, SFMM. Eric
llykstw Posted September 3, 2007 Author Posted September 3, 2007 Thanks guys - that's incredibly helpful! You all gave the same answer, so you've made it an easy choice for me
darklingscribe Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Give yourself time to drive up there if you want to have a full day. It is about 40 miles north of LAX and the LA traffic will easily make that drive a good hour and a half, if not two hours, long.
scooterdoug Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Even though you seem to have already made your choice, I just have to echo everyone else. If it's a THRILL park you're looking for, the answer is very easy: the Mountain. You'll have an absolute blast. Just make sure you don't go on a Saturday! Those crowds make me wanna
Carnage Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Six Flags Magic Mountain was, for me, the best thrill park in the entire WEST of the Unithed States Not really saying much, as it's the only "thrill" park in the west US.
Zen Coaster Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Echoing the Mountain. I was there mid-week in July with a friend from the forum & we were really lucky with the crowds. X was the only super-huge one and that was at the end of the night. We used a few Flash Passes but could have got by without them really since the opening hours in summer are decent. Get a few rides in on Tatsu for me.
christianscoasters Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 ^Around like 3-4:00 in the afternoon, X was just about a 2-3 minute wait for us. And yes, we made that mad-dash in the morning, but there was a ten minute wait.
RIP Psyclone Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Some people may say that the single best coaster in the greater L.A. area is Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm. If you are one of those people, show yourself! The park with the best collection of coasters is SF Magic Mountain. There is no question. Xcelerator is much like Stealth at Thorpe, but X at Magic Mountain has only one other coaster like it, and it's in Japan. Also, Tatsu, the world's best flying coaster!
llykstw Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 I forgot to post back here before now, but I want to say 'thanks!' for the great recommendations. We had a great time at Six Flags (and also in Vegas on the coasters there)!
thrillgeek Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Haha glad you had fun! Do you happen to have any photos to share?
sfmmrules! Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 SFMM is deffinately the best. The only coaster I liked in Las Vegas was Speed.
itnotfair Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Some people may say that the single best coaster in the greater L.A. area is Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm. If you are one of those people, show yourself! I might be one of those people. Xcelerator is ungodly. I still recommend SFMM. Have fun!!
