Icedragon, if you are goth and laugh and play like you say doesnt that contradict what goth is?

No, you're just running with the stereotype. I bet if you got to know a few, you'd find that they have fun too.

In other words you are living a lie and it is obvious that you havent found yourself yet.

I'm not living a lie, you're just deluded.

You should not misrepresent something you do not understand. Let us know when you have a complete grasp of what it means to be goth.

Once again, stereotyping gets you nowhere. If I said all Americans were fat because I believe the stereotype, I'd be wrong. Everything you've stated refers to stereotyping.

I have to address this. I have no problem with goths hanging out at any park, I've been at the park on Bats Day and most of the goth patrons are exceedingly well behaved and polite, probably even moreso that the general guest. I have absolutely no problem with people expressing themselves however they want.

Thanks for understanding. Tmcdllr, take note.

But, come on....Individuality? Hardly. Everyone has pretty much the same style of clothes and look. Oh look, a pale girl wearing a corset and holding a parasol. A kid wearing all black and a t-shirt of some goth band. Some dude with pants that have sixteen thousand zippers. Wow, how individual of all of you to wear the same things.

It's the same thing as individuality within 'regular people'. The majority of 'regular people' all wear grey jogger bottoms, green/baby pink/baby blue polo tops with a grey sweater vest with a (fake) gold/silver necklace hanging from the neck. I don't wear a corset (I'd be freaked out myself if i did), nor wear trousers with dozens of zippers in the trousers.

It's individuality as everyone wears an item differently. I would wear a baseball cap with the 'beak' (as it were) pointing forwards, someone else backwards and another at a different angle.

Just because all you see is someone wearing black lipstick and a corset doesn't mean they follow a crowd. Most of my gothic friends can't stand corsets or black lipstick.

JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE LESS GOTHS THAN "REGULAR PEOPLE" DOES NOT MAKE YOUR LIFESTYLE A FRESH TAKE OF INDIVIDUALITY.

I never said that, you're just assuming that's what i was saying.

There is no "goth rulebook". To be "goth", you don't necessarily need to fit every stereotype that is pressed upon you.

Nor do you necessarily need to be considered "goth" if you fit some of the stereotypes... ie: I used to wear basically nothing but band shirts [which happened to be black], and black jeans [because I didn't like the way blue jeans looked on me]... you wouldn't believe how many people would call me "goth" based on that alone.

Anyway, I can understand jokes made about the "goth culture" or whatever you'd refer to it as, but calling them sad, discussing how all of them need to be beaten with bats[!], telling them they need to "grow up", and generally referring to them as "useless" is kind of ... well, stupid, to be honest. Just because you don't agree with their choices of dress/behaviour doesn't make it any of the things you described it.

[i have no clue why I'm defending goths]

^lol. I have no problem with individuality but seriously, goth is the furthest thing from that. You cannot be considered an individual if you are part of this "collective."

I just saw the pics and all I can say is yuk!

36 and you're still an idiot.

People will dress how they want, you're going to have to accept that. I have friends that dress "Goth" and they're probably the nicest people you'll ever meet.

Just because you're too creeped out to even talk to them because of the way they look makes you really pathetic.

It's like someone looking at you and saying "OMG! Yuck! He's wearing cargo shorts and a blue t-shirt! I can't talk to him!"... I mean, common, grow up.

That's funny!

Wow look at what I started.

Honestly though, I really have no problem with the goth culture, and yes I do know people that are goth and they are fine people. Do what you want I don't care, everybody has their own thing they are into whether it be goth, emo, whatever and if that's is what they want to represent then who am I to say differently. I am 36 and no, I am not an idiot.

I just like messin with you all cause it's really fun and apparently it's really easy too.

You know what's even more ridiculous than goth and emo kids?

People that hate them.

Seriously, everyone is a human being with good and bad qualities, whatever they may be, and to assume that someone is "less" than you because they subscribe to the gothic style and culture is just silly.

I'm no goth in the slightest, but I've been to Bat Day, and every single goth in the park was infinitely more friendly, respectful and talkative than the normal guest patrons, who looked at the gentle goths with rabid fear and hatred in their eyes.

Weird world, this is.

Careful there, don't want to trip over yourself trying to backtrack out of this.

I figured you were joking with the "beat them with bats" thing, but it was still a bad joke. Not because I care about violence and whatnot, just because it was a bad joke.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing.

Tmcdllr you remind me of some of my friends. I have some "goth" friends at school (I'm not goth, the closest thing to call me would be preppy), and a few of my friends refused to talk to me because I was friends with them. Ironically my "goth" friends were nicer then my other friends ever were. I have no problems with any goth/emo person anywhere, they are honestly some of the nicer people at my school.

^Because you ONLY see goth people smoking in non-smoking areas

Heck, did anyone notice that in most of the pictures, the people weren't really all that gothic looking... Sure, some were, but still...

And quite honestly, the whole goth thing is just a big fat label that people have put on them. All they do is dress different, they really aren't 'bad' people. People just assume that because they're goth, they must be all depressed and stuff. (I'm not saying that they all aren't depressed, because of course some are, just like everyone else)

Just think of goth as a style. Some people are into it, some aren't. And just because you aren't into it doesn't mean that you have to insult everyone that is. Is it hurting you that they are dressing differently?

***I wasn't picking out anyone individually in my message. I was using a 'general' approach!

Lol, seriously the way you were posting Tmcdllr I thought you were 12, I was shocked when I read you were in your 30s, the way you guys are bickering about stuff like this lol.

That is interesting though... I guess... I didn't know Disney had a "goth" day lol, and the lines were huge for the haunted mansion, which I guess in a way is somewhat funny since I have a goth friend and she doesn't ride much, but the Haunted Mansion is one of maybe 3 rides she does ride lol, I've been trying to get her to ride more...
