One of the features on TPR that was sorely lacking in options was the Poll feature. Robb and I decided to install a new modification last night. After much hard work on Robb's part, we have it functioning.

What it means to you!

MULTIPLE CHOICE VOTING Yep, you can now choose more than one option on a poll, if the person who created the poll allows it! The poll creator can choose the "Maximum Selections" to allow multiple choice.

UNDO/CHANGE VOTES Have you ever clicked the wrong option on a poll, only to find out you cannot undo your vote (I'm looking at you Jow)? Now you can undo and change your vote! This option can be set on and off by the poll creator.

DETAILED RESULTS (OPTIONAL) Now you have the OPTION to see who voted for what. Detailed results give you the skinny on exactly WHO was casting the votes (OPTIONALLY). This OPTION can be set on and OFF by the poll creator AND can be changed by a mod (because it is an OPTION). If there is a poll where we feel the results are best being private, we will TURN THIS OPTION OFF.

Pretty cool, huh?

IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT While these new features are very cool, polls should ONLY be done if something warrants it. Pointless polls will be locked.

I like your first two...but heres what bothers me...

Democracy Wes! You cant READ the votes! It should be strictly personal. For exmaple, the "Your Sexual Orientation Poll". Some people dont want thier personal information known. Voting is fine, but I dont find it right to let other people know what you voted...

It may cause people to "Internet fight" over thier beliefs. WHY DID YOU VOTE THAT! Blah blah blah.

Just a thought!

Typically when that option is enabled a warning message is displayed before voting to show that it is a public poll.

Plus I've found on other forums using the public poll on a touchy subject like sexual orientation tends to get the poll locked pretty quickly.

It's not nearly as big a deal as on "What's your fav B&M",etc.

True! I do agree with that. I didnt know that it actually shows that it is an "Open Poll" and that if your private..dont post!

Awesome Paul, thanks for clearing that up!

Ryan, the option for Detailed Results can be turned off. In polls where we think anonymity is important, we will make sure Detailed Results is off.

Its fixed. I clicked the third option, and it went to the first...

It's not fixed. The results page now sorts the options by how many votes it's receiving.

Ya I agree with Ryan on the showing who voted for what feature. When I read that the first thing that popped into my mind is what Ryan said about people will piss and moan about who you voted for or whatnot. So ya I am against that too.

I also like the new poll features! Change is always good. It keeps things fresh and new.

Like, even the small threads im sure, with some of the immature people on this site, will raise battles. I mean..come on!

I kinda agree about the open poll thing. If people want you to know what they voted for, then they will say it. Also it could reduce conversation as people know others can just look up what they voted for so they won't explain their reasons etc. And it could discourage people from voting if they knew their votes would be known.

But thats only in a small number of cases and on these boards, the kind of polls out there aren't very personal. It'll be useful for some polls so it's all ok in the end

But yeah, liking the "recast vote" option, i'm a spastic sometimes and click the wrong thing...

Now that I think about it.....

What is the point of the detailed results? Why would anyone care to know who voted for who or what? Really is there any point to that?

What were your thoughts on this Wes or Robb when you decided on this feature?

That it would be nice that people can do multiple choice voting.

The "open poll" feature can be disabled by the person posting the poll. And if it's not, and we feel that it's a poll where the votes should be kept private, one of the mods can go in and disable it.

Also, my thought was "We're voting over roller coasters and theme parks....big deal...it's not like we're voting someone off the forum ala Survivor style!" (although that could be fun too!)

Maybe we should institute that every so often.

Kidding, I like the new polls.

I dont like the idea of people being able to see what i voted for. What if theres a "would you bang JOE" thread and I vote yes. Id rahter remain anonymous rather than letting the whole world know that I worship JOE and his boobs.

ok, I don't think people are getting the idea that if someone decided to have an "open vote" it will be displayed on the screen before you even vote. You will be able to see "detailed results" as an option. For example, below you can see what I see on my screen (since mods can see who voted for what anyway) and if the open vote option was selected you would see that also.

So it's not as though people would be "tricked" into voting for something and then all of a sudden have everyone see their vote.

I just don't see what the big deal is. Either you just don't participate in an open vote or maybe I'll just forget the mod all together.

I really thought people would WANT the multiple choice option, but instead people are focuing way to much on an option that I don't even see being used that often.....
