Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens tried to kill himself by overdosing on pain medication. When asked by the rescue workers "if he was attempting to harm himself", Owens stated "Yes".

Owens friends said that he had been feeling "depressed".

Depression can affect anyone at any age, from students to flamboyant NFL superstars. Even someone like T.O. who appears to be a very positive/outgoing type "A" personality can be affected by depression.

Sadly, people may not realize a friend or family member is suffering from depression until an event as drastic as a suicide attempt occurs.

I may not like the guy that much, but I can understand. There may be some that will say "Oh, but he is making so much money. He should be happy." Money isn't everything. You try to go through all of the crap that people put him through. Sure, he isn't the most likable personality out there, but sometimes stuff can wear on you.

It would seem that I have everything going for me too. I have a great girlfriend. I'm finishing up school. I'm incredibly good looking (sarcasm). However, I still go through little bouts myself eventhough it is pretty much all behind me.

I just hope that people try to understand this and don't just rip him.

Personally, I think TO's grip on the sports spotlight was waning, so he tried something desperate to get back into it. Be prepared, ESPN will do a two hour "special" on this incredible turn of events. TO's is all about himself, he's bad for football (hint, hint Barry..).

That theory is entirely possible, but I also believe that it is totally possible that he may be depressed.

I just hate how the media and our country come up with conspiracy theories all the time.

Guh, why is it when some mickey mouse organization crap comes up like a ticked off or depressed person wants to do something , they always steal the limelight.. I mean the biggest deal I ever made in a situation like this was when Kirt Kobaine did it.. whoppdeeyy doo depresssed football player who ticked alot of people off last year.. Sorry just my opinion.

I mean the one reason I detest even hearing about this "Mr. high and mighty!" is because last year he although playing on a busted ankle basically ranted his team. He basically said he was a god to the team giving NO credit what so ever saying if the team didn't have him they wouldn't even know how to pee...That he has to stand there and help them.. thats like a big blow to the teams spirits.

In slightly other news for this event the news says he only took 2 pills..Eh let the guy do what he wants..

I think him and Barry Bonds need to get together and have a "Pill-Party"!!!

Last time I checked, Bonds has been on the same team for a while, and Owens can't hold down a job in the NFL, despite being one of the most gifted recievers

Bonds is an ass to the Media, and nice to most of his fans, so the media portrays him as an ass

Owens is a first rate prick, and while I wouldn't cry, I still don't wish death on anyone, even him

If he did attemt to commit suicide, he would have immediatly been put on a medical hold, and kept in the hospital, untill he was evaluated by a metal health professional, he would not be allowed to leave, I work in a hospital with a mental health unit, and if he wanted to leave, and was being an ass and demanding, he would have been taken down, and restrained to his bed.

Yeah, very bad comparison between Owens and Bonds. He doesn't seem like it, but I'm sure he is a good club house guy. I'm not saying he is an awesome character in there, but he isn't a jerk.

The media just trashes people. It's kind of like our country. If someone doesn't let us take advantage of them, we throw bombs at them.

Let's see, Owens railed Donovan Mcnabb up and down the sideline on TV, and Bonds is known to be a total a-hole in the locker room. Yes, they both sound like fine upstanding teammates.

Either way, this story should not be front page news anywhere.

I was just going to say that. TO had an injury a few days ago, and the media didn't pay enough attention to it as he thought they should, so.... pill time. What a joke.

I never said that Owens was a good teammate. I didn't really say that Bonds is either. At least Bonds doesn't disrupt the team. When he is in the line-up, he carries it. Would you be very nice to the media if you were being accused of steroid abuse? I'm not saying that he is innocent, but he is put into a worse light than what he already was.

Yes, Owens is a dick. However, I think he did try to do harm to his body. And you know what? I feel for him. Who knows what he has gone through behind the scenes. All we see is him in on the field and in front of the camera. Maybe he has a reason why he starves for all of the attention.

All I know is, if I were at a conference like that, I would deny that I tried to kill myself too.

...untill he was evaluated by a metal health professional...

I'm assuming Quiet Riot's stint in the medical field is primarily due to the fact that they haven't had a hit single in years?

That gets my vote for MY best spelling error ever, very funny

I am the metal health profesional

As for the Owens Bonds debate, look at it this way

Jeff Kent and Barry Bonds HATED each other, but worked together, and NEVER repeat NEVER said anything bad about the other to the media, and they were successful

I believe Owens called Jeff Garcia "Gay", and trashed Mcnabb, sorry he is way more of a stuck up prick than Bonds
