garyman6
VF15...Where did you get such a recent aerial photo of the route 76 area? That's pretty cool!
VF15
^ I got that aerial photo from Google Earth. The image was taken back in October which is why there is some Haunt theming visible. Just a quick question Gary. Now that the new rumor about a possible cedar point dive coaster has arisen, is the rumor you heard about still plausible? Can you give us some info if the dive coaster will thwart our chances of anything good in 2016? I asked Mr. Frazier pretty much that same question. I mentioned rumors about a dive coaster for CP, and possible coaster rumors for Valleyfair and Michigans Adventure. I asked if he could shed some light on if there is still a possibility of getting a coaster in 2016. He replied back and said "Wow, a lot of rumors" and "No comments from me" Take that how you want, I have some thoughts on it but I'll keep that mum for now Based on what he said here, I think that he probably knows about whatever is going on with the CP Dive Coaster and what the rumor means for Valleyfair. He just can't say anything about it right now.
RCjunkie
i can see VF getting a windseeker since its one of the only Cedar Fair parks without one What are you talking about when saying "One of the only"? Over half of CF's 11 parks do NOT have a Wind Seeker.
thrillrider
i can see VF getting a windseeker since its one of the only Cedar Fair parks without one Michigans adventure, Dorny , knotts (used to have one) do not have them.
ariznglori
The amphitheater really takes up a lot of space, you could almost fit another Camp Snoopy there, especially if Enterprise is relocated to the empty spot where the new "stage" is. But about the amphitheater, it seems strange that a park would willingly lose a large venue that draws guests, so I have been assuming it really wasn't getting acts that drew the crowds... can anyone tell me how the amphitheater was doing prior to its current stagnation? Is the reason it closed simply code violations/structurally unsound (I saw that somewhere mentioned many many pages ago)? I know Michigan's Adventure now has a dearth of live shows, and is one of the only amusement parks without them. I don't believe we're on that route at all, but it pops into my mind when I think about Valleyfair's amphitheater. Would/should the park possibly build a new amphitheater/large show venue in the future, and if so, in what location?
valleyfairfanatic
The amphitheater is pretty much SBNO. I haven't seen an act perform there since 2011 ^
ariznglori
So it's structurally sound, just no acts/crowds that validate its space?
VF15
I don't know if the amphitheater is structurally unsound or not, I just know it's out of code and that's why it can't be used. Some new things are happening at the construction site.

garyman6
The brake run on wild thing kept most good acts from wanting to perform at the atheater. That along with being out of code led to its demise. It would be cool to still have one though.

If VF is getting a new coaster you will probably be one of the first to know by seeing construction markings sometime in late July or early August. If a new coaster also involves removing an older one then we will see markings even earlier than that. If a new coaster is coming in 2016 I am sure we will see other signs of it happening before they make the official announcement so be on the lookout for sure. VF15
Just wondering, since the rumors of a Dive Coaster at Cedar Point have spread, do you think it's possible that Valleyfair could get one of their own eventually? I personally hope we don't get one because Cedar Fair tends to go on the cheap for new coasters at Valleyfair, and if we did get a Dive Coaster, I'm afraid it would be a very short ride like Oblivion or Krake (both of those coasters are less than 20 seconds long from drop to brake run). If it was to be a longer Dive Coaster like Sheikra or Griffon, then I'd be okay with a Dive Coaster, but considering Cedar Fair's past investment philosophy with VF, I don't know if a ride like that would be possible. On the bright side, the GP would go nuts over a Dive Coaster, and it would be a good choice for a coaster that interacts with the park entrance. They made a little more waterpark progress today, but I noticed they covered up the restrooms near the Snoopy/Red Baron ride. Don't know what that means. Anything's possible, and I would say that if the company is in fact discussing a dive machine with B&M, it adds to the chances slightly. However I also wouldn't think it changes the game too drastically to have them looking at one for CP. I do agree with your concerns over cost, hopefully if they do go with it, they'll be generous. We could use something substantial one of these seasons.
ariznglori
The thing I keep coming back to with Valleyfair is that it was announced as a growth park...meaning a change in investment strategy. And the past few years of additions haven't been cheap or stupid. --$3.5 million for Dinos Alive (opening the park for educational field trips) --Route 76 relocating flats and adding a new family "coaster" along with a great ferris wheel lighting package, new catering/picnic facilities (again to handle large groups) --waterpark expansion for 8 million--the cost of a new coaster, but gives noncoaster riders a reason to come in the summer and establishes the park as a place that can keep the locals away from the Wisconsin Dells, with future development to come... They could have easily not done Dinos or Route 76 or the waterpark expansion and gotten a large coaster for the 13-15 mil instead, but the park wouldn't have been up to par for the crowds they want to have (families and large groups that will drop dollars in the park, not to mention they'd have no educational excuse to get schools there in the first place). It seems like investment is accelerating, actually...The "off years" lately are anything but. All of which keeps my big coaster dreams alive. Valleyfair is on a good trajectory overall, and its unique land limitations promise for a coaster that will be something with high thrills and a tight layout...like a dive coaster...??? Not the coaster I wanted, but I would not be upset if we got one. It would be something SFGA doesn't have.
CaptainUnknown
The things that bothers me about the alleged Cedar Point dive coaster: 1. The price tag--16 million for a 220 ft tall, 3000+ track length 2. What would the CP general public think of it. It adds nothing new to the lineup. Dragster has a 90 degree drop, Maverick has a 95 degree drop, Gatekeeper has seats not directly above or below the track, and depending on what train configuration they go with; Rougarou has floorless trains. 3. Why add a dive coaster now when Mean Streak is in need of greater immediate attention? 4. The thing that CP lacks the most is a modern wooden coaster. ariznglori
They might be getting a discount on the dive coaster because the last 3 B&Ms built were all enormous expensive record breakers (Gatekeeper, Banshee, Fury 325). Then they'd have Gatekeeper swooping over the front entrance and Centurion over the marina entrance. But there's no confirmation it's for CP. The name Centurion feels good for a front entrance to me ("Introducing Centurion, a record breaking dive coaster new at Valleyfair 2016!"). If the dive coaster is indeed for CP, I suspect that they are pushing for a new steel record breaker so fast to try to draw as many guests into the new hotel as soon as possible. They may not be able to get a new woodie or rehab Mean Streak due to the major wood coaster companies already being booked by other parks (I know, unrealistic). And I agree about the wooden coaster situation at Cedar Point, it's weird for a flagship park. But a dive coaster would be a weird addition to get for us too now that I think about it, before an invert. And how could they work it into the front entrance with Dinos blocking one side and Wild Thing blocking the other side (unless it's going to be taking a chunk of parking lot and the entrance is redone or moved)? It might be going to California's Great America instead, they are the other growth park after all. After looking at Google Maps, it's clear CGA could do a dive coaster entrance remodel in the vein of Cedar Point and Carowinds easily by removing their amphitheater. But the neighbors may complain about the noise, so I don't know.
VF15
^ I think the Dive Coaster probably is going to Cedar Point, but I don't understand it either. The lack of a solid wooden coaster seems to be the one big chink in Cedar Point's armor, but they have not done anything to change that for some reason. Just a thought I work in park services, so that means my eyes are constantly on the ground, when you're looking for trash and stuff it isn't hard to miss markings and other stuff while doing your job. If do ever find out the plans for 2016 I probably won't share them, my supervisor last year told me about the expansion around july but didn't go into great detail. Ill keep an eye out but like the person above said, my main focus will be my job. As for being off the clock? Heck yes! I went almost every day after my shift, so if I do find something it will most likely be after my shift. Ill keep you posted this year.

I'm not sure if you remember back in october I mentioned the massive cone area blocked off from cars by the dines alive fence. Its an interesting and very plausible thought. I don't think we'll get a dive coaster, but if it's gonna be a coaster, it will most likely be an invert. sorry for the double post ll
