I don't see TC going anywhere. I rode it last season and they did fix some of the water features. I'd like to see them enhance the ride to attract more people to ride it. I remember when it opened it was a loooong wait to get on. Have said that there is no reason that they couldn't build a new coaster that would interact with maybe both Excalibur and TC. That would be cool! And of course, put the lowest track sections above the high water mark so it could operate in any flooding conditions!

It used to be amusing to watch too when they had enough waterfalls working to actually get people wet.

I'd like them to fix Thunder Canyon, but just as an observation they could save having to maintain a lot of area at the expense of two not very popular rides by just shutting down the park beyond Renegade.

If they were to shut down the park beyond Renegade, where and how would you like to see the park handle replacing those attractions (a water type and mid-level coaster)?

I'd like to see a new rapids (or flume...any type of tracked water ride beyond a splash boat) ride and coaster fill the place of the amphitheater.

Nothing huge necessarily (unless an invert could be worked in swooping overhead, then of course sieze the opportunity!), just two rides that use the space effectively and have an interesting interaction with each other...it would be a cool complement to Wild Thing's interaction with the antique autos (would also work well with Wild Thing's turnaround getting filled by whatever).

I would also like to see more trees in that area and Route 76 should such a thing ever happen, to try to bring that wooded feel from the back of the park to the front.

Spitballing off of this, I have often dreamed of a coaster that uses TC's trough and waterfalls as themeing elements. While I am aware that the whole flooding issue makes this a moot point, it could be fun to dream.

I may not have been to the park a whole lot recently (including Haunt once back in '09), but don't they do this during Haunt along with (sometimes) the first hour or two of every other operation day for a similar purpose? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

They may have at one time, but every time I went to the park last year, Excalibur and Thunder Canyon opened at opening time along with the rest of the park. It actually might make sense to not open Excalibur and Thunder Canyon until an hour after opening because one time I rode Excalibur at 10:30am and they told me I was the first rider of the day.

The flooding will have years when it is late. Last year won't be the last time it happens. It did put enough of a dent in attendance numbers to warrant discussion by Cedar Fair executives.

What confuses me is why the path to the back of the park goes through a tunnel and isn't raised up above flood levels.

The flooding happens every year in April and sometimes May but rarely affects open operations of the park. In 38 years that was only the third time I have seen it affect park operations. And this was the longest time is affected operations and happened latest in the season that I have ever seen. Last year was a record. And unless we see that happen more often it will probably take another 38 years for it to be this bad again. Until this is happening every 1-3 years I don't think CF is too concerned, they have dealt with it before and will again.

If you raised the tunnel you would have to raise the service road entrance road also. That road used to be the back of the park and nothing was beyond it until 1987 when they put TC in. Putting a tunnel in was much cheaper than raising that area up to put in a tunnel and raise the road.

Why not just have the path take a bridge over the service road instead of tunnel under it? You would not even need to mess with the service road height.

Valleyfair Fan Meet-up

I'll be in town for business January 15th (THIS Thursday). RCJunkie and I will be having dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe at the MOA (inside NU). We'll meet up in the park near HRC around 5:00ish and anyone who shares an interest in Valleyfair is welcome to attend.

Please RSVP to RCJunkie or me so we can get an idea on a head count.

I wish I could come, but unfortunately have other plans that evening . Maybe we could have a meet-up at Valleyfair on Opening Weekend or some other time.

Also, now my confidence in a 2016 coaster has dropped more because of the news of a possible B&M Dive Coaster at Cedar Point. Does CP really need a new coaster two years in a row? Granted, Rougarou isn't 100% new, but still...

I honestly would not give that article much weight. Doesn't 15 mil for a Cedar Point version of a Dive Machine seem low? It could be in the works, but they haven't really come up with anything more solid than you'd find on a standard rumor site.

Man I really want to see the real memo. I'm going to shoot the author ofthis article an email and see if I can get a copy of that memo. A dive machine fits all of Valleyfair's needs- compact, novel, inverting, cheap. Admittedly it'd be the second vertical drop coaster in the market (Spongebob's Rock Bottom Plunge has an beyond-vertical drop), but I can totally see it happening. B&M hasn't built a dive coaster in a few years, but they proved with Banshee that they can pick up old designs and make them awesome.

How about we all do Coasting For Kids and use that as a meet-up, and we would be supporting GKTW at the same time!

I won't be able to make the NU meet-up.

Check out the web cam! I think that matt is for thawing the ground. Looks like the cold weather isn't going to slow them up at all!

Let us know if you get anything because I am just as curious. The Sandusky Register is not some fanboy amusement park site that doesn't run articles unless it really thinks it has something. Are they right all the time? Nope. But they are right more often than they are wrong and have some credibility due to their past reports and articles about the biggest thing in Sandusky. If true this does not necessarily mean that VF will not get a new coaster in 2016. CP is the flagship park that is always adding new attractions (along with CW) while other parks in the chain still get big attractions during the same year. If it is true it just reinforces that the rich just keep getting richer.

A Midwest dive machine sounds awesome. 15 mil for a Cedar Point coaster might be low compared to past coaster investments (as pointed out in the Cedar Point thread), but low cost doesn't mean a bad ride, and seems to indicate that a larger amount of funds may be getting diverted for use by Cedar Fair elsewhere--whether into other projects at Cedar Point, or perhaps other parks (Canada's Wonderland most likely, or maybe even Valleyfair?).

When I thought I heard the 2016 coaster budget getting split up, half of it going to CP was not what I had in mind. While I know Valleyfair is on the "to do list" for coasters, it looks like the coaster might happen until 2017 then if CP is going to be getting the other coaster and if there's also another water park expansion happening in 2016. All I know is that starting in 2016, Cedar Fair will start to annually invest around $120-140 million into all of their parks since a large chunk of the 2015 budget is going to be spent on Hotel Breakers and Fury. It's also why there's no other coasters being built for 2015 as there was no other room in the budget for one.

I don't know where this rumor about Canada's Wonderland getting another larger coaster in 2016 came from. So far there hasn't been any solid leads about it and most of it is just enthusiasts being optimistic or guessing and I certainly haven't heard anything that would say a coaster was coming. If anything, I can see a Zamperla Disk'o, a Larson Flying Scooters, or some other family friendly rides going in. They do seem to be lacking in the family thrill department though with newer rides.

Is it possible that the Cedar Point coaster could be a 2017 project? I had usually heard that getting a new roller coaster was about a two year process, and based on what I've heard, it sounds like they're still in the early planning stages. I could be wrong though, please correct me if I am.

As for a 2016 Canada's Wonderland coaster, the reason some think they're getting one is because there has been big land clearing there that could point to a new coaster. I'm leaning towards saying they are getting a coaster because I don't know what else they'd be putting in such a big space, but that's just my guess.

If Valleyfair's coaster is coming in 2017 instead, then I predict that 2016 would probably be a flat ride, possibly a HUSS Giant Frisbee in the amphitheater's spot, or maybe Larson Flyers in Route 76.

If vf got a flat in 2016, and a coaster in 2017, I would be very happy. Granted that we would have to wait longer but it would be worth it because if the park gets a decent flat, and a new coaster, that would really balance out the park and put it up on the boards for once.

GM Frazier just confirmed that the black matts are indeed to bring frost out of the ground so they are not waiting till spring to pour concrete! That's good news!

This has nothing to do with construction or anything, but I thought I'd tell you all that I've auditioned for Live Entertainment at Valleyfair this summer. So who knows, maybe you'll see me onstage sometime this season! I don't know how easy it is to get in, so I definitely don't want to get my hopes up, but since I love performing and Valleyfair I figured why not give it a shot?

^Good luck!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how often High Roller gets retracked? I find it to be an extremely smooth ride, so I was wondering if it was stunning maintenance, 3 1/2 inches of padding, or both.

Hey guys, this is my first post. Everyone thinks we are going to get an invert in 2016 or 2017, and I think it is very likely that we will at least get a new roller coaster in those years. if we don't then for our next roller coaster I would expect something more expensive because of the long wait. I haven't heard anything suggesting this but I am hoping for something similar to Maverick.

The Cedar Point reports say that the B&M Dive Machine is ONE of the options on the table for 2016. It could very well be an RMC re-tracking of Mean Streak. And I question what a dive machine could do for the park. I've seen that spot better for a GCI wooden coaster anyways. Now, let's get back on track to Valleyfair.

I don't know how often it gets retracked, but I do know it got some retracking in spots during the 2013-2014 offseason. It paid off because it was definitely smoother last year than in 2013. Now if they could somehow run in without the trims, it would be a really great ride.
