Not a big park, but since not much happens up here, big news for us!:

Here's info on the rides:

RCDB:

Being a Miler, will absolutely have some radical airtime and laterals (ex: SCBB's Sea Serpent).

The RCDB link has a blurb about the history of the original Nut Tree, was a nice little roadside stop/traditional park back in the day. Even though this new park won't be nearly as spread out as the original, nice that they included a new small park in their plans as a homage to the original. I know I'll definitely be checking it out and credit whoring when it all opens!

Holy crap they are finaly doing something with the Nut Tree!?!

I remember going to that place as a kid.

Every time on the way to SFMW or SanFran we drive by there and you see the big sign and the parking lot with weeds growing through the cracks.

About time they do something.

My family used to make a trip to the Nut Tree once or twice a year back in the 1960s. The restaurant was great--especially their Turkey Tamales and Mini-hamburgers. The grounds used to be beautiful, and there was this excellent toy store.

I'm glad to see that this old landmark is coming back in some form.

From the site:

The Harvest Express Coaster is designed to look just like the original fruit crates that were so prevalent in the heyday of Vacaville's proud agricultural industry.

When fruit was ready to pick, it was loaded into carts pulled by wagons from the fields, then packaged and shipped throughout the country. The new roller coaster pays tribute to life on the farm, and children gain a brand new perspective of the industry's influence on Nut Tree-speeding along in the inside of bright-orange colored crates.

Wow, I was thinking this was going to be a Dragon Wagon or something that they bought from one of the traveling rides companies.

Cool, now Wally and I will have a park to stumble around in after bar hopping before work, awesome!!

Hopefully this park will also be opened next year when I'm out in NorCal in May. It may not be super awesome like Europa Park, but if its got some heritage, it should at least be a little neat.

^ I'll be part of a big mall/roadside stop/entertainment center, so I'm pretty sure they'll be open daily. If you'll be hitting SFMW, it's only 20 minutes North, so you can easily just take a quick side trip for the credit.

Glad to hear you plan on hitting the small parks when you visit. Too many people come out this way only for PGA (bleh!) and SFMW just for the credits, completely passing up the real jems of the NorCal parks, SCBB and Bonfante Gardens. While neither of these parks have the coaster counts, IMO they're miles above PGA and SFMW and offer a far more enjoyable quality park experience.

Here's another small park in the same area if you're just looking to rack up credits:

Wow, this takes me back. Although I never experienced Nut Tree first hand, hearing my mom and grand-ma talk about makes me wish I was around to experience it. When I saw that the huge facade was torn down a few years back, it was a bit of a shock but also sad because that was the point in which I knew I would never experience it.

I have a feeling though that the new park will be more upscale and just wont have the same memories and charm the old one had. As itll be part of a mall/entertainment stop, I just dont see it having the same small-park family feel that it once did.

And thanks for the link to the Traintown site. I remember going there when I was really young for a birthday party. I ws really into trains at the time and it was like paradise. I also remember the old tacky commercials on local tv for it. I cant seem to recall having seen them in the past few years as often, if at all, and thought it had just gone the way of Nut Tree. Ill make it a point to take my kids there one day if its still around.

I was wondering, will kids today like myself ever get to experience our own version of "charm"?

But anyways, I always saw Nut Tree but thought it was just that, a building that had nuts in it So, I was surprised to hear it's actually something completely different.
