Well the point I was trying to make was that if the park is going to make an intense launched indoor coaster, that isn't meant for little kids, they shouldn't theme it to Speed Racer. Like I said before, my 3 year old son likes that show and to me it is a very childish theme for a coaster of that intensity. But you are right when you say it is more a family friendly theme, but the theme needs to fit the intensity level of the ride and in my opinion the ride that DefinitiveDetour suggested be themed to Speed Racer is a little too intense for the younger crowd that would be most interested to that theme.

I think that a Fast and Furious theme would be a better theme than speed racer."

Yes, I thought about that and came to the same end as you... It's Universal. It doesn't need to be the most intense ride ever made... just somethng that has a lasting re-ride appeal. With marketing you can spin anything the way you want it to look like. I.E. The ride would be taking liberties of the Visual Aspect of the Movie and adding its own small plot.

The Problem with the fast and the furious is each movie was different with no distinct look or feel to them with the exception of racing. You could do a ride based on it and prolly do it easier and cheaper than my speed racer concept.

Either Way... a Dueling launch coaster side by side would be cool and I would be happy to see either one go up.

^If by dueling launch coaster you mean Wiggles World, then your dreams will probably come true!!!

As cool of an idea as that sounds, it would never happen at SFMM. They do not have the money to make either an elaborately themed ride, or a dueling ride, better yet both. I mean Terminator was their best theming job yet, and it's far from Universal quality (well outside of the pre shows at least).

Posted

^To be honest, outside the preshow, there really isn't any theming on Terminator. The three pre shows are great, and more than exceeded my expectations, but the queue up until the first building is nothing but swtichbacks.

The first time SFI tried a dueling launched coaster, it didn't pan out so well, so I can understand why they'd want to avoid the idea for a few more years, though I would like to see a full circui launch coaster. Thats one thing the park seems to be lacking in its coater lineup. And if said coaster was packed with airtime, it'd be killing two birds with one stone.

California in general lacks airtime, there's barely any at SFMM,some on Xcelerator (but only the tophat), SFDK doesnt have any, DCA has a bit on Screamin, Sea World, forget about it, Universal, forget about it, I'm not quite sure about CGA since I havent been there, but it sure doesnt sound like much. Of course rides like Drop Towers and Perilous Plunge etc have them, but the majority of Cali Coasters really lack airtime. SFMM would be taking the cake for pretty much all of California if they made a ride with lots of airtime.

^I never thought Airtime was all that improtant. Sure if it is desinged right, it can be really exciting , but I'm more impressed with intense positive forces which SFMM has a lot of.

I like the idea of a Maverick style ride. Not saying it has to have a launch, inversions, or even be Intamin, but something that combines intense direction changes, positive forces and exciting amounts of airtime.

Universal, forget about it,

I disagree, Revenge of The Mummy has some pretty strong pops of air if you know where to sit.

Yeah they would, but I think Knotts will beat them to it.

^Knott's has about 3 rides with airtime

Xcelerator: It has great air, but only in 1 spot

Perilous Plunge: Same as Xcelerator

Ghostrider: You're too concentrated on not dying on that thing to enjoy the airtime

^^ Yes, SFMM does have a few bone crushers *looks at Batman, Goliath, and Tatsu's pretzel loop* which is why they need a ride that delivers a good amount of airtime. Termy does a pretty good job with keeping you off guard though

Except if it wasn't for the Terminator theme, I doubt we would have had those additional tunnels, onboard sound or flames. All those things add a lot to the ride.

Posted

^ Yeah, that does seem to be the "theme" these days. But you know, I can't complain about flames. I'd be alright with all the new coasters having flames. Oh, and bacon. They need to add bacon next time.

Well if the next coaster is going to have "elemental" effects, then I hope management changes pace and utilizes water into the theme. I still really like the idea of having a launched, airtime monster by Intamin. It seems to be a very likely canidate.

I think I'd take onboard audio over flames, but flames that cook bacon that you can then eat when you get off would take the cake

^ Your welcome

You know I never knew that as General Manager & Director of Maintence (sp?) and Engineering, Tim also designs rides himself and sends them off to the manufactor, until he talked about Tatsu.

I always thought it was always the coporation's own engineers that designed the ride (like in Terminator's case).

How about onboard audio that gives you the sound of sizzling bacon? And then, like you said, at the end you get to eat some. Mark me down for some ERT.

Why should you have to wait till you get off? Bacon, cooked and served NOW while you ride.

^ How would one cook the bacon?

Perhaps you could place a raw piece between the thighs of an ACN member before the train departs and rely on friction.

X2 ERT and free tacos!

After signing up for Del Taco's Raving Fan e-Club at (www.deltaco.com/x2), members will receive an e-mail certificate redeemable for a wristband at the park that allows exclusive after-hours admission to X2.

...

In addition, after the Del Taco Raving Fans exclusive ride time on the 31st, the party will continue at the Del Taco location adjacent to the park at 28082 The Old Road, Valencia, where VIP wristbands will be redeemable for a free Classic Taco.

That's probably why Tatsu turned out to be so extreme compared to previous flying designs, and now the bar has been raised and you end up with competative coasters like Manta.

In car microwaves that go in between the speakers on the sound system of course

^^Damn that sounds cool....still not worth eating Del Taco food though
